There's clearly a tornado in the shot there with just Superman flying down. But the tornado is before he's in costume? And then he's catching Lois in some blue lightning storm. Fallout out of the anti-gravity ray, after he destroys it?
Um, that's clearly a plume of smoke coming from a crashing plane or something. Tornados don't look - or act - like that.

just made the mistake of reading a few comments on yahoo! SMH, people arguing over the meaning of the 'S'. I hope that in the credits, they list the materials that inspired the movie so maybe people can pick them up and become more informed. Or at least do a History channel documentary like they did for TDK.

it would be interesting if those are tears. i remember 90% of fanboys complainig about the shot in SR. it was a good shot and good acted. but then in 2006 it was a different time so everyone had to complain. i guess noone will have a problem in 2013.

Context is key. Some people don't like their heroes ever getting emotional and I think those people are morons but mostly context is key. I'm trying not to bash Routh or Returns because it is old news but I did get a sad tinge because I wanted a reboot in 2006. Now I'm going to drop it.

Kinda overwhelmed by all of it. Is there any good writeups on any sites that you guys would consider essential reading and analysis of the trailer?

Grace (from BeforeTheTrailer) is still skeptical of the movie after she watched the trailer:

I am having a great time being a superman fan these days!
What an epic trailer and what a great response.

I noticed it has begon to snow at 1.10

Well I see you're biased towards the John Williams theme already, and that's fine, but a "made for a tv movie theme"...? Are you serious?

Are you talking about Catwoman? But yeah, I guess that might be the case, because the movie's called Man of Steel, but even in the trailer they almost said Superman, so we may hear it at least once, in full.

On the opposite, I think that Zod's whole transmission about Kal-El surrendering within 24 hours alone was more intimidating that Stamp's Zod as a whole, but that's me.

Really? I thought an actress with 4 Oscar nominations and a variety of roles would evoke different thoughts on her character, but well... I guess she made a huge impression in that Smallville episode.

I am not being biased to the John Williams theme, I just think that this new theme "so far" does not speak to me as superman. Maybe this wasnt even his theme, but right now I was hoping for more powerful sounds

Well it basically is like you see someone and you associate them with that role, plus that was before she became "real famous". So yes when I see her I will say where is the green drink? LOL I am going to give her a chance though, I enjoy her other work however I have yet to go into buying her as Lois, again I see her as Green Drink girl.

I am probably wrong her, but isn't the S meaning in the comics one of the following.

A. The house of El

B. The symbol for the sun of krypton "Sol"

I also think this movie is going to really put Snyder on the map. Every shot looks like a masterpiece of lighting, composition and framing.

Nothing for nothing but Watchmen, 300, and Sucker Punch easily showed the type of visualist Snyder is. Dude's an auteur in that department.

I'm fine with people not liking the music but that made for t.v comment is hyperbole at it's finest. And Amy Adams is by far the most talented and accomplished actress to ever play Lois Lane.

The second Snyder was announced, I thought to myself "Man, Heat Vision is going to go CRAZY in this one..." So I know that's coming... What I want to know about is Arctic Breath (AND Super Breath). Underrated. And we've seen him in scenes surrounded by - and ON - fire! C'mon, Superman! :oldrazz:
Artic breath is something I could do without personally, but it won't make or break it with me.

What do you mean 'meaning of the s'?
The only thing I'm a bit worried about is how hokey the whole S being a symbol of hope thing is going to turn out. I personally don't think I'll have a problem with it but depending on how it's handled, it could turn some people off.

Won't happen. Assembly line filmmaking to make release dates won't allow it.
Good one :whatever:

All I can say is, WOW. The trailer literally blew me away. I had to hold back tears when Costner said "You are my son," and when the main theme kicked in (Zimmer, FTW!), I just about jumped up and fist pumped the air. I'm LOVING everything I'm seeing in this movie. Cavill looks and sounds fantastic, Adams, Crowe, Costner, Lane, Zurer, Shannon and everyone else look like they're knocking it out of the park as well. People can complain about Snyder all they want, but he looks like he's done a spectacular job here. Now, I know we still need to see the movie to be sure, but this looks stunning. June 14 can't come fast enough.

Superman keeps trend in twitter :woot:

Can't stop seeing that trailer, and I really love the music.

Grace (from BeforeTheTrailer) is still skeptical of the movie after she watched the trailer:

Grace has not had one single good thing to say about "Man of Steel" ever.

Even in her Summer 2013 preview she went "This is the End" with its amazing premise may be movie kryptonite for "Man of Steel". Her review of trailer #2 and the Zod message are equally bad. In fact, in the zod message review she went "I would have liked them to release a trailer instead" and now when she gets the trailer it is not something she liked. Even on her posts at Bleeding Cool she has a pronounced Marvel bias.

Also, out of nowhere, "Superman" is trending again on Twitter. Must be the morning catch-up crowd.

It changes from comic to comic, but I know in Birthright, which this whole movie seems to vibing, the shield is the indeed the Kryptonian symbol of hope.

Absolutely. You can never dismiss Donner's first film because it started the genre. He set the template, even if he didn't have the technology filmmakers have today.

But this thing could be the first total package Superman film...just as, for me, the Dark Knight was for Batman.

I think MOS will have something for most modern superman fans to enjoy. At the same time, it will lack the magic Donner's films had. Pretty much every comic movie today lacks that magic as well.

BTW, its nice to see some respect being shown for what Donner/Reeve brought to the table, instead of nitpicking it to death.

Let's take a minute to recall the scene that preceded the crying in Returns.:csad:

Superheros and more importantly, male leads can cry all they want. They just need to earn it.

Exactly. It just needs to be justified. I mean Routh's reason to cry in Returns was pathetic.

The S has to mean more than just hope, otherwise why does people have different crests on them?
Also, Kane, that was my favorite moment of the trailer, really bad ass

When do you think the new poster will be released?

I love this shot.

I also like how they're not doing the traditional methods of showing superspeed (i.e., have everything else in slow motion while the subject moves at normal pace, or else have the subject become an unrecognisable blur)
