All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 5

That whole read was cool... But I just don't buy that just after Jonathan and Martha takes Baby Kal-El out of the ship we then skip 25 ****ing years - and BOOM! we're on the oil-rig! No way! Something's just off. I don't buy that we won't see anything of Clark as a little kid. We already know that there's a scene with little boy Kal-El sneezing and blowing out a wall! Also missing is CK and Lois in Alaska. And there's no mention of how Jor-El's suit miraculously goes from one color to the classic red, blue and yellow of Superman's suit. No way they wouldn't explain that. Much of that description sounds very plausible, but stuff definitely seems to be missing, especially from Clark's childhood... If stuff happens exactly as that whole read describes, then we're already back to the BAD and weird EDITING, just like with Superman Returns...

You might want to read the last few posts. :cwink:

And the Superman suit isn't classic...and there's a lack of yellow...but that's a debate for pretty much every other thread on the interwebs :woot:

When I wrote it I hadn't heard anything about young Clark material. So...just for you guys...a little addition:

As they stand in the cornfield, Martha and Jonathan have a frank discussion about the baby. Martha is almost immediately attached to the child but Jonathan is concerned, suggesting that it could be a Russian plot (setting the destruction of Krypton and the crash in the 1980s) of some kind and that at the very least they should call the authorities. Martha tells Jonathan that it's just a baby who couldn't hurt anyone. Jonathan leaves in the truck to go back to the farm for some equipment to raise the ship from the crash site, saying they'll take the child home and decide what to do later.

"Later" turns into days, months and years as we have a brief montage of Martha and then Jonathan getting so attached to the child that they can't bear to let him go. The montage also includes a couple of shots of Jonathan burying the ship in the barn. Finally we reach a point 9 years later. Jonathan is outside, doing repairs on the tractor as young Clark plays with the dog. As Jonathan works, the dog starts barking loudly and Jonathan looks up to see Clark lying on the ground. Jonathan immediately calls out to Martha and rushes to his son. Martha comes out of the house and is shocked to see young Clark unconscious in her husbands arms. They worry about something being seriously wrong as Clark has never been sick in his life. Martha starts to rush inside to call a doctor but Clark wakes up. He's dazed and he his head is warm. Jonathan picks him up to carry inside but takes an uncontrollably deep breath and sneezes, blowing a hole in the wall of the house and in the process, knocking Jonathan off his feet.

We then spend time in another montage watching Clark in his early teenage years as his powers start to develop. We see him wearing glasses in an attempt to control his supervision, we watch him almost light the barn on fire with his heat vision. Other powers start to show. Strength, speed...Clark does his daily chores in a matter of minutes. The next day he does them all in just a few seconds. He's getting stronger every day and they don't know why. At 14, Clark asks the question...What am I? Martha and Jonathan don't have an answer.

Cut to the oilrig, 11 years later....

Better? :yay:

wow. you r really good. i love the story/treatment. all the characters were treated right and nice. Lois is lovable. it's fast pace and action packed. and it has heart too. if there is one thing to complain... it would be... i want Brainiac in!!!

hopefully synder's is as good.

That whole story felt like I was reading a comic....if it is true with a little tweaks in the story, I'm gonna love it...I can't wait

Sequels my good man! Sequels! :cwink:

Nice job, Vadakin, that was a very enjoyable read! I think I'd be pretty satisfied if that were the movie we got.

BTW, I think the "young Clark" stuff people were talking about was when Clark was around 18-19, because it was still Cavill on set, just with longer, goofier hair and baggier clothes to make him look more boyish. Cavill could never pass for a 14-year-old, lol.

I think people were talking about the rumours of a scene with little Clark at the hospital with Jonathon (if I remember rightly), and the fact a kid has apparently been cast in the role of young Clark.

Immortals made me very curious to see what Henry will be like as Superman. Him being in that movie will do nothing but good things for Superman

Oh... so YOU wrote all that.... damn, dude! Not bad. Not bad at all!:woot:

Still reading and it's pretty good. I like the idea of Kryptonians being aware of Earth and humans (or humanoids).
Not crazy about the linear narration for the origin though. Just reminds me too much of S:TM and it's a little uninspiring IMO. Sorry.

I'm still hoping they'll go the non-linear flashback-route although I'm not sure if it would work here with an origin taking place on 2 planets and featuring quite a lot of characters. Might be messy.

And yeah, I guess we'll see Clark at ages 9, 18-ish and present day 25-ish.

Anyway, I'll read on... :yay:

Hmm, I didn't know there was young Clark stuff in the movie. If I'd known I'd have written it in. And yes, for the record, I'm the guy who wrote that plot outline. :cwink:

Someone linked to the original article already and I hadn't intended on putting it in an AICN talkback (I put it in two actually) but after finishing it I decided to do it for a laugh without letting on that it was fake. I'm surprised anyone actually saw it. It was picked up on one of the CBM fansites as well.

Some things like characters appearing who haven't been cast or actors being on sets without appearing in those scenes in the plot rundown are mostly because I either forgot about it or because once I'd pieced together a story stuff like that just wasn't fitting right. In the end though it was my version of Snyder's film, not the actual film so I did take some liberties.

Thanks for the responses though. Start the campaign now to get me the writing job on the sequel. :oldrazz:

Wow!! You wrote that plotline?? Bravo!!

sure, there are a few things I would have changed, but, overall, if the real movie plotline is anything close to what you wrote, I'll be very happy! :awesome:

a few things I really enjoyed:

1. The fact that the Kryptonians ( or Jor-El ) were looking for other planets that could support life ( much like we are doing ourselves ).

2. And that the "S" symbol stands for Hope, and that Superman decides to embrace that to be our Hope. Ultimately, that's what Superman should stand for.......HOPE!!

again, Bravo!!

Sequels my good man! Sequels! :cwink:
cool... perhaps just a hint that zod is working with brainiac.
but if there is a sequel... it would be at least another 5 years to go.

btw, i remember u as an active member in bt. wow... it was already 5 years...

Not meaning to be a party pooper... but isn't that from Smallville?

It could be, I don't know. I just had a memory of some version of Superman having the \S/ standing for "hope" so I put it in.

It is a cool thing to include, don't get me wrong :)

Huh, just looked it up and I was completely wrong.

This was the symbol for hope on Smallville:

Its a shame that info was fake but it was a superb read. I love the idea of hope been the theme for this movie much like fear was the theme for Batman Begins. It wouldn't surprise me if Nolan and Goyer had used that idea in their script.

Man watching all these commercials for tv shows and I miss looking forward to watching any superman related tv programs. I really hope we get a superman show some time soon.....I'd love a cartoon, but what I'd want is an updated tv show of superman. I know it won't happen until we have superman well established in MOS but im on withdrawal right now..:(.....I need superman back on tv!!! Wb you hear me?!!!!

I really hope that this is the case with the film's actual story.

whether or not you want to tie the S symbol's Kryptonian meaning to hope.......that's fine but not really necessary.

but, at the end of the day, Superman himself should be ( and needs to be ) about hope.

My god yes! They miss that and they've really missed the point.

As long as they don't beat us over the head with the word hope, then I'm good. Wonder if anyone counted the number of times fear was said in BB?

Johnathan: Why Capes Clark?

Clark: Capes inspire me with hope...(Pause). It's time that my enemies feel my aspiration.

Clark throws the cape at the wall.

I'll do it later if no one beats me too it.

Technicality - just the word fear, or shall I include things like 'terror' 'dread' and 'afraid'?

P.S. Would make a great drinking game wouldn't it?
