All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 5

I honestly don't care if they took idea's from the proposed SR sequel. Maybe some of the idea's were good. Hell, SR had good idea's too but the execution left a lot to be desired.

Despite the hyperbole, SR is not and never has been an awful movie. It's a mediocre to bad film.

Last night I had a dream that I was watching Man of Steel at a movie theatre. What's interesting is that although I remember the film itself being vaguely disappointing (there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary comedy, while the poster had a lame font and Henry looked like Brandon Routh in SR), that was more the side effect of an unrelated development. You know how they play commercials at the beginning of every film screening now, prior to the coming attractions? In my dream, the movie was interrupted every 12 minutes or so by an honest-to-goodness commercial break, just like on TV.

I would be getting involved in seeing a new cinematic Superman adventure, and then there'd be another commercial break and I would get annoyed and leave to take a walk around the multiplex. By the time I got back, I had usually missed part of the movie. So in the end, I had to watch it a second time because of that.

I know it was just a dream, but with the ever-increasing commercialization of our culture, I wonder if the film industry would be perfectly OK with introducing TV-style commercial breaks into theatrical releases. God forbid.

Anyway, the main result of the dream was that when I woke up, I remembered that we still have to wait a year and a half until the movie finally opens in 2013. :csad: At least I have TDKR, Avengers and Spidey to tide me over until then, but Supes is my guy. But hey, if the movie in my dream was disappointing, I can also take solace in the fact that, yes, it was just a dream.

Also in the dream, Clark Kent/Superman couldn't quite shake his British accent. But I've heard Henry do an American accent in Hellraiser, so I'm not at all concerned about that in reality.

So rather you like SR or not can you think of any other movie that was as popular that planned a sequel but dint get it?

Some of the movies that had sequels planned but did not get -

Daredevil, The Incredible Hulk, Green Lantern (It may get / may not get a sequel.)

Some other non superhero movies are-

Golden Compass, Eragon, Percy Jackson (I think that Fox has recently shown some interest in making a sequel to it.)

it is getting a sequel, its also going to be 2013 movie if I'm not mistaken

Wasn't The Man of Steel originally supposed to be directed by Christopher Nolan's brother?

But only after Man of Steel worked its way into the dreams.

'Tis what happens when Nolan is involved...

So.....if I knew someone who is working on the movie and confirmed a few points about it, would I post them here?

There's a couple I'm sure we all know about, but there was one sequence that had a distinct name and he told me about what he is actually working on.

GL has no chance of getting a sequel, most didn't like it and it was a mega bomb. I'll never say never to another GL movie 15 to 20 years from now but it will not be a sequel to the biggest embarrassment of the summer.

Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but there are a few things I can confirm.

We all know about the the Zod armour, we all know about the CGI cape. My friend is working on both.

But he is also working on a sequence called 'Destruction of Metropolis'. Again I don't know if this has been revealed before, but I had never heard about it. We're talking destroyed buildings, total carnage, and in particular, people (ie. Superman, Zod) being punched through buildings. There is a term used for digital duplication of people, and they're going to be using total CGI for the punch scenes.

We talked about how this was proving to be very difficult, and how
they're starting on these sequences next year.

I hadn't heard about this at all, and read most of the new spoiler posts, so I figured it had to be new to the forum.

Do you know what it looks like?

I think we all kind of assumed that we'd see something like that at some point. But it's nice to to know that it's been quasi confirmed. :yay:

Yes! I hope it's true. I really want to see them fight in Metropolis, not just ol' Smallville. Thanks for the info.

So, Clark at age 9, huh...

Is that a kid who's been cast as him, is it?

EDIT: Just saw it on IMDB - and I approve, the kids cute :)

Anyone seen Tahmoh Penniket is on there as Emerson? I hope that's true, I like the guy.

Sorry - no idea on what the armour looks like yet, only that it's big and complicated.

And it's not quasi, it's 100%.
