Awwww. Look at the lil' spit curl!

So I'm Worried what the general audience is going to think of the movie.I have just had a nice long conversation with some industry professionals I share a group with that have just seen a few costume pics from everything that has been leaked so far and the general consensus is not good at all. Most of these people are not fans of comics but work on comic book movies and do effects for movies. They are very under impressed with everything they have seen so I started talking to friends out of the industry and people I've worked with on part time jobs and 90% think the costume looks either A. balerina outfit B. gay bondage outfit C. superman pajamas even after i told them what we know so far they think it looks and sounds stupid every one of them said because the costume looks bad the ideas will be bad meaning the story will be bad and there for they are not seeing it. So if 40 out of 60 or so people think this what will the general public as a whole. I'm very worried people will just not care and superman won't be seen anymore.

Weird... everyone I've asked said the suit looks cool.

Who are these people?

I wouldn't be worried anyway.

A lot of people, when asked what a superhero looks like in his suit, will answer with some smart alec joke or bit of mockery. It's just what people do, when they are trying to be cool or funny.

A. Spider-Man
B. Batman
C. "Classic" Supes (Christopher Reeve)

Are you sure these folks have worked on comic book movies? :cwink:

Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but there are a few things I can confirm.

We all know about the the Zod armour, we all know about the CGI cape. My friend is working on both.

But he is also working on a sequence called 'Destruction of Metropolis'. Again I don't know if this has been revealed before, but I had never heard about it. We're talking destroyed buildings, total carnage, and in particular, people (ie. Superman, Zod) being punched through buildings. There is a term used for digital duplication of people, and they're going to be using total CGI for the punch scenes.

We talked about how this was proving to be very difficult, and how
they're starting on these sequences next year.

I hadn't heard about this at all, and read most of the new spoiler posts, so I figured it had to be new to the forum.

Dear Santa;

For the love of God, don't let another "hair color" debate result from this.

Sincerely,

Herolee10...lol

Haha, on a sidenote, the kid looks awesome for the role. Can't wait to see what the scene with him will be like. It's not often we see a younger Clark at that particular age on live action screen.

I don't like the sound of that.

Don't take it personally, but I'm taking everything you're saying with a grain of salt.

The suit is complicated in CGI construction terms.

And grains of salt are all good and understood. I can't reveal the company or my mate's name, but the pedigree is Harry Potter, Inception, Dark Knight Rises (yup, he's working on that too), and the current abomination that is John Carter. He showed me his work in the John Carter trailer that just came out.

If I told you the scenes you'd figure out the company and his name - which wouldn't be good.

Movies starts.

"My name's Jason. I'm the son of the most powerful of men. The last son of Krypton. All started..."

We can see Krypton.

etc etc-

Ugh I hope this doesnt translate into a nightmare tonight. Gonna wake up covered in sweat and shaking. Just another reminder of the disaster that was SR

SR was good. :yay:

If that is how you feel im not the one who will tell you otherwise, kind sir. :yay: I just hope that if SR was good that MOS is bloody brilliant and im talking one of the best CBM's ever brilliant. :awesome:

Who do you think is the boy going "In the decade of the 1930s, even the great city of Metropolis was not spared the ravages of the worldwide depression..." in STM?

Yeah. It was planned DECADES in advance.

;)

The kid does look a bit like Cavill... the nose and the eyes. Yup, we got our Kid Clark :D

His hair is all wrong. ;):p

Seriously, they did a good job if it's true. :D

You make it sound so simple ................... those bright primary colours are actually difficult to render properly with realistic shading and shadows, particularly when you add in a flowing cape and textures on the suit. If Superman wore a dark suit there probably wouldn't be this issue.

Superman Returns was a prime example - £200m budget and the CGi was still poor. I only hope in MOS they resist the temptation to CGi Cavill's face for closeups like they did with Routh in SR, you can almost get away with doing the body but the face is better left alone. As good as our CGi is nowadays, it's still miles away from realistically rendering skin textures, tones and eyes. Works great for spaceships, structures, aliens or something else unrecognisable (look at District 9), not so good for humans where we're finetuned at picking out inconsistencies in faces etc.

From your lips to the ears of every visual effect/CGI artist on the planet.

Right on the money.
