I'll admit that POA the film leaves a lot of info out from the books (ironic as its the best one), but I feel that Cuaron was the first director to make a HP film (as opposed to Columbus's HP book in visual form). The first 2 films had ok pacing, but there is SO Much unnecessary dialogue / bits that slow them down.
I agree Cuaron make by far the most cinematic film, with great flavor. I love how he integrates magic, and he established the general look of the films from there on out. But there is little in the term of unnecessary dialogue or scenes in the first two films. Cuaron had the benefit of not having to establish a world. He also failed at making year 3, feel like a year. Columbus' films nail that, while keeping things interesting.

What they have is some underwhelming acting from the kids in some scenes, a fewless then stellar effects, and bland cinematography at times.

OOTP did have a lot of background info taken out, true. But out all the HP films I've seen with friends who are not big fans, it's the only one they clearly understand - its the only 'true' film.
PoA is the "truest" film, but OotP is a strong second. But both would benefit from another 20mins or so. Not simply for back story or exposition, though it is necessary, but in terms of character work. How can anyone really care about the death of Sirius? I still hope that one day we will see the original cut of OotP.

So while they are the best of the Potter films, they don't measure up well to the best film has to offer.

All the talk about 130 mins run time being too short is a bit puzzling to me. I can guaranteed you that any longer, the film will drag on especially an action based film.

How many of you thought that Ridley Scott's Alien was too long? That film packed so much of tension, action and classic set pieces in mere 117 minutes!

Superman TM was about 140 minutes, but the opening credits was nearly 4 minutes long, and you also have a long end credit. The Krypton sequences , Kal-El's travel, Brando's Jor-El monolgue took up a good portion of film.

When should we expect MOS's world premiere? IM3 had its like last week and STID had its premiere today in Sydney.

*Watches TDK, FotR, Batman Begins, Saving Private Ryan, Aliens, T2*

I can guarantee you can't guarantee that.

Maybe you should watch the MoS trailer again.

Also, all those scene were great.

As if we needed more proof that Henry Cavill makes one super-hot Superman, his Man of Steel costar Michael Shannon is now gushing over the hunky Brit actor.

"He's perfect, he's flawless," Shannon, who plays Man of Steel villain General Zod in the flick, told us last night at the Hollywood premiere of his movie The Iceman.

"He's everything you could possibly want," he continued. "I saw the movie the other day for the first time, and I just love the original as much as anybody but I can't think of another actor in the business today that could come close to what he did. He was just sensational."

Shannon promises some epic fight scenes between him and Cavill in the flick. "Yes, of course," he said. "If we didn't have any interaction at all, it would probably be kind of bizarre."

Cavill, who got super buff for the part, didn't unleash any actual injuries on Shannon during filming though.

"No injuries physically, no," he jokingly added. "Some mental injuries I'm still trying to get over, but that's no secret to anybody."

I see Amazon updated their listing for the companion book to include the new cover now, albeit a little clearer:

Thats awesome. Thanks for the article.

I'm curious... Since Superman and the "armored" Zod & Company apparently have equal powers, then wouldn't Kal-El be better off wearing armor than his Superman outfit? Seems to me he would be better protected.

See, that is Begins style. Which I think works very well. I didn't want to check out Birthright before the film, but maybe I will to see exactly how it is structured.

It's absolutely a great read, especially his time in Africa at the start. If you can ignore his ability to see auras/souls and the passing comment that he is a vegitarian because of it (this whole aspect is only mentioned during the Africa sequence and never again, so its pretty easy to disregard) it is a great take on Superman's origin and I was sad when it was retconned.

Really? That sounds kinda of lame.

But the reason I am avoiding is because I heard that MoS takes quite a bit from it in terms of the early scenes, and I'd rather go in cold. I am planning on reading it, just after MoS comes out.

Eh, it sort of is, but its there for a reason. A character's death early on is magnified by seeing it from Clark's eyes, and you see their aura fade. It does make it more emotional and although you know they are going to die as soon as you meet the character, it still makes the scene sad. But like I said, it is never mentioned again for the rest of the book, so its easy to overlook that aspect and move on.

And that's fair. But definitely worth a read as some point. Great art too!

Saving Private Ryan is a war movie and these tend to run on for too long, but in a good way.

TDK, Aliens & T2 were all too long for action based film, especially Aliens. I saw all of them at the cinema and can clearly remember being aware of how long these films were. Sometime actions will become too repetive and boring.

Batman Begin was fairly good in pacing.

Why are you bugging me about MOS trailer?:yay: It has nothing to do with the run time.

Reading all that makes me quite happy. I get the feeling that Michael Shannon is a hard guy to impress, so if he was happy with the film + Henry's performance then

Yeah, I feel the same about Shannon.

Shannon doesn't talk BS, never did and never will. He tells it like he means it. Of course, not everyone will agree with him or love something (everything has it's share of people who don't like it or/and haters) but him saying that is encouraging.

He is one actor I have full trust in his opinion about Cavill. I kinda already made my own from this last trailer. I'm very much looking forward to his performance as Superman.

^ Yeah, early on Shannon was hesitant to endorse Cavill. The fact that he's going as far to say that Cavill's the best choice possible is significant. :)

Any thoughts on the red caped character that appears to be fighting along side of a robot? Jor El maybe?

Since someone brought it up cann I just say again that I hated soul vision in that comic. I like him traveling around though so I'm pleased they are using that aspect in the film.

That truck belongs to a trucker who tries to start a fight with Clark in a Pub & Restaraunt in Cordova, Alaska. Clark does that to his truck because he is a bit of an angry fellow until he finds the Fortress. Still a hero but got a bit of a temper.

Sounds like Grant Morrison's young Superman.
