Nolan who? :woot:

Come on, a little bit of effort from Superman can't be that bad! Something like:

[YT]oSH-522LGm0[/YT]

[YT]cK2muWE-sk4[/YT]

That Snyder ripping off Smallville!!

:p

;)

Smallville attempted to do "Superman realistic" ... it's possible they took a few cues from it but tweaked it and made it their own.

How's it quiet? Lol today we've had a leaked ship pic, which yes wasn't an official release but we got a new Empure issue the other day and a new SFX magazine next week. Add to that the recent Goyer interview I'd say its not quiet in the slightest.

Well his name kind of gives away why he's so... confused... at the moment.

Fair enough but that rush left me feeling a little deprived right about now....tell that to the guys arguing BO numbers for the last few pages :woot::woot:

Love CBM's in general & have always been a Supes fan since childhood .. i love both DC & Marvel, but for me, the character of Superman has always been unique in that i haven't come across any other superhero that inspires hope & uplifts the spirit as this character does ..

Sure, who doesn't wanna be the bad ass that you aren't but wish sometimes you could be, ala Wolverine .. just to satisfy the dark,

contemptuous side of our personalities that surfaces every once in a while.

But i think, if one can be honest with oneself, the kinda person we really would want to aspire towards is the one represented by the character of Superman .. i believe that most normal, sane folk would agree that characters that inspire hope & greatness attract them more than the dark, cynical types, even though we tend to humor our dark sides with more regularity .. cause it's easier to duck under the radar than to stand tall.

i think hope & greatness will remain the universal appeal that Supes will always inspire even though society in general has become increasingly "intolerant" towards these kinda ideals over the last 2 generations .. even the most jaded person would likely admit that to themselves (even if not publicly).

to bring this into context with MOS: everything i've seen so far regarding this movie has reminded me of the entire hypothesis of the Superman character as mentioned above. Superman simply needs to be done right on the big screen .. that's really it .. nothing more. If done right, then he'll resemble that "beacon of light" motif that underlies his character. And that is something i believe people would really WANT to see, cause that is something most people would really WANT to be.

SR never did that for me .. instead all i saw was an emo, angst-ridden, peeping tom with insecurity issues .. not exactly awe inspiring ..

But i get the distinct feeling that MOS might just deliver those magic ingredients that exemplifies everything that Superman is all about .. if it does, i believe it'll blow people's minds & make this film a huge success to build upon ..

Now i'm not in the $1 bill camp at all .. but i think if this inspires, as it may well do, it might just be the start to reinstate the Big Blue to his position of "King Daddy of all all super-types" that he rightfully deserves.

Because they are all out of tent poles and they are riding the critical wave. But I doubt it warranted a sequel financially. This is why we are getting another Transformers and why Battleship was created in the first place.
It had nothing to do with them being all out of tentpoles. It performed well enough and had a great reception. It was one of the most talked about films of the Summer of 09. It made perfect sense for a sequel to be made especially now that the international audience now knows that this version of Trek is loud and fun and in 3D.

Your expectations are too high and I don't know why. I really don't need to because I have proven that a film doesn't need to make 700mil worldwide to be considered successful and garner a sequel.

Done right, yes...but also delivered right, which can be an ever-changing challenge in the dense arena of big-spectacle pictures. And what may have appealed about him to the sensibilities of generation before might need some updating when he's no longer the only kid on the block. Basically, Superman needs to earn a place near or at the top all over again, at least when it comes to movie characters and even CBM characters...it's not his 'rightful place' anymore like it may have been perceived back when there weren't as many CBMs. But that's a good thing because it means not resting on laurels or taking as much for granted.

From the looks of it, and the writing behind it, I think MOS stands a good shot at it. And I think SR was an important shot in the arm that told WB that they have to almost start from scratch with Superman again and that the history that some may thought of as an asset was in many ways an uphill battle as well.

I think we'll be seeing a some new angles on the Superman concept with this picture. I think general non-fans will really dig it, and I hope that the more 'traditionalist' avid fans will be open to an alternative new outlook, as long as it maintains the core values of what the character has always represented.

And Welcome to the Hype!! :woot:

Hate Smallville and always have. I don't even consider it to be Superman, and I honestly think anyone (if there is anyone like this) who is going to see MOS expecting it to be Smallville they will be disappointed. Smallville and Superman are two totally different things, IMO.

When did I say it needed to make 700mil to be a success or to get a sequel?

You are confusing reality with something else. My point is that how much success any project is from a financial point of view is very much based around how much cash is put in in the first place.

If you movie makes 100mil but it cost 100mil, it is terrible. Look at John Carter. It is exactly why horror movies are a cash boon. Cheap as dirt so almost incapable of not making a profit.

Sometimes studios are willing to lose a little on the front end, hoping for a TDK bump. But that is not the norm, not at all.

Well that is horrible point of view. It is very much Superman. Now I don't like it very much, outside of Chole of course :hrt:, but it is still Superman.
