Based on the trailers thus far, I want to give my interpretation of what I think the sequence of events could be...though I am likely wrong
Potential unconfirmed spoilers
- Kal-El appears to be a newborn baby, maybe hours old. I have read that Kryptonian children are engineered, and an actual birth is against the law. So on top of Krypton's future nearing an end, they may also be sending him off because he would likely die at the hands of Krypton authorities.
- Kal-El is sent off, secretly, possibly prior to the Krypton civil war beginning to take place.
- We see scenes of Jor-El fighting the good fight and at some point, Zod and his team are taken into custody.
- I don't believe they will go the Phantom Zone route, just because they are trying a different take on various things in this film.
- We see the final shot of Krypton crumbling as Lara-El watches...Jor-El possibly has perished at this point.
- Clark arrives on planet Earth, possibly several years older in which the Kents find him and obviously bring him home.
- Clark finds he has abilities and starts using them.. probably some for mischief and some for good (schoolbus).
This is where it gets a little dicey for me. There are some scenes of Clark in a grey long sleeved shirt and longer hair, and I assume this is all taking place prior to his travels around the world. There is a Tornado scene where Clark is holding a young girl. I cannot tell if the shirt is the same color..but if so, it appears he is trying to get people to safety.
Then there is a shot of Clark screaming with a similar haircut, and it appears he is yelling "DAD". If so, maybe they won't go the heart attack route, but maybe Pa Kent was trying to help someone during that storm or something along those lines and is killed..and Clark wasn't able to save him.
That or...
That scene where Clark in the grey shirt is huddling people together and he turns around looking up could be seeing the Kryptonians arrive...but I am under the impression that doesn't happen until Clark has done his travels and donned the outfit.
I am sticking to the Tornado theory.
- So Clark loses his father and decides to take his father's advice and seek out his purpose. So we see him on fishing boats, oil rigs, etc.. obviously saving lives as he goes.
Off note, I really hope we see Clark not be Mr. Goodness all the time, and take on some real bad people (muggers, people really trying to do harm, etc..) and we see him use his strength in a way we haven't in other Superman films..maybe breaking some bones, etc.. but not too graphic of course. I want to see realism in this film though, I want to see people in these real situations appear to actually get harmed, etc.. and to show that Clark can't save everyone but he can damn well try his hardest.
During this time, we see Lois Lane trying to find this "miracle savior" she speaks about. Her talking is probably reading to herself an article she wrote.
So this is what I think happens after Clark leaves the Fortress of Solitude after however long he spends there (years probably).
There are 2 potentials IMHO.
1. Kal-El with his cape begins saving people, etc.. during at some point reports begin filing in about some flying guy. General Zod is aware of Kal-El's prescence on earth and sends a message. I thought he used an interesting word in the video..."harboring a citizen of mine"...I take the word "Harboring" as "safe keeping" as if Earth is protecting him, but I don't believe that is the case here obviously. Still thought it was interesting. 24 hours passes, and they figure the nearest location is Smallville. I am not convinced Zod goes to Smallville, but Faora and the other disciples come down to wreak havoc. Superman makes his presence known now as the military is like "WTF" and treat him as an enemy as much as the other people. At some point, Faora and the team retreat back to their space pods and leave. Superman, via good faith, turns himself in. Lois Lane I assume is considered an "authority" on this special guy and is asked to speak with him (though that is kind of weird, maybe it's her father connections in the military?). At some point, though, the action goes to Metropolis where we end up seeing Zod overlooking the city (I believe this is where he first makes his entrance, not Smallville). Then we see Superman, the Military, and Lois basically saying "Oh Crap, ok we do need you" and they send him off in the salt flats or whatever. Though this might be completely false given you see him and Lois hold hands...which might mean they have had a previous interaction hence why she interviews him at the military compound room. IDK.
2. We see Clark turn into Superman for the first time, in Smallville, when the Kryptonians arrive. I am still sticking to my Zod not in Smallville theory though. They battle, military hates them both, Kryptonians retreat. By this time, the Zod message to earth has not occured. Superman in good faith turns himself in and they have their chat in that room. That static noise happens, and it's General Zod giving his statement. At this point, the Harboring statement rings a bit more true since Superman is in custody. Superman says "Excuse me" and something happens, I just honestly have no clue given that scene still has to happen out in the desert salt flats where they hold hands. But stuff is about to go down in Metropolis so he has to get out there.
I have no clue about the ending..whether Zod will be killed, destroyed, sent somewhere or what.
Anyways above are just some wild theories of mine and I am sure none of them hold water, LOL.
Thoughts?
edit, and completely off topic..I love that his outfit is from the actual battle armor Kryptonians wear which makes sense why its impervious to damage like his skin. There is a scene in the trailer where you see the suit, and appears to be left for him. I read somewhere, that the Fortress is a ship that possibly was left on Planet earth a LONG time ago as that is how Kryptonians knew of Earth to begin with and where to send Kal-El. Though interesting an outfit would still be there that fits Kal-El perfectly
