Mishandling a female character in any film is rarely surprising and in a blockbuster film it's never surprising. As long as the character comes off way better than Dawes I will be fine. I didn't really expect a flawless film anyway.

One is by some nameless user who says he hasn't seen the movie but spoken to four people who have who say it's abysmal, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. The other is by Jenn Murphy and she says it's terrible. I never said the tweets were reliable, just that there have been negative tweets.
We think that Jenn Murphy is talking about MOS.
She has not clarified that yet .

I heard from 4 different people that MOS was abysmal.

Their names were Spider-Man, Wolverine, Thor, and............Batman. :batman:

Cut the attitude, pal. You want to get your panties in a bunch over anyone saying anything bad about the movie, fine, but don't insinuate that I'm a liar.

No im calling you out for calling someone who didnt even mention it was man of steel and 3rd hand info as 'reviews' or reactions. Its BS and you know it .

"Saw MAN OF STEEL last night at a press screening, I can't really talk about specifics... but I really enjoyed it, I was scared of the Nolan/Goyer involvement - and I was pleasantly surprised, It is an action-packed "Superman" movie!!"

Works for Comingsoon.net

Can't stand that kind of ignorant thinking. Nolan has said Superman is very different from Batman, so it would not be the same approach. People just assume too much.

are we really gonna start eating our own because they are talking about a negitive review, even if it is 3rd hand info?? c'mon.

I agree. When I see their names and the reference to the dark knight trilogy in the ads I don't assume it's gonna be the same concept and approach wise. It gives me hope quality wise. Plus I've always liked Zack Snyder.

expect more of the same .. potential firestorm once 1 or 2 actual less than stellar critic reviews hit :whatever:

I think that Amy, Diane, Antje, and Ayelet will all be fantastic. It's only the script that could fail them. If I put my critical glasses on and try and predict what might be the main criticisms of the film, I think some bad dialogue from Goyer could be one. Although that never really hurt the TDK films.

To be honest I thought the main problem with this film would be failing to maintain the grounded tone they showed in the first teaser. I thought the movie might suffer the same fate as what I thought Kick-Ass and Watchmen to an extent suffered from. However everything we've seen to this point from the new trailers and spots showing the perspective shots on the ground or in ferrys of the Black Zero, to the single camera footage showing people locking the doors in fear in the Smallville fight, all has really turned me around to the fact that I think Snyder has really pulled this off.

I know that we didn't get a legit bad reaction to the film, but ...

Do we expect MoS to be the first film in Cinema history that all people loved?

.. or didn't have thousands of people who hate it?

I find it funny that we've had at least a dozen positive reactions to MOS, most of them from reliable sources including one of our own moderators and they all have only great things to say, we know one critic already gave it 5 stars and a 90/100 rating and yet you all focus on these 2 negative reactions, one an unknown 3rd hand reaction and one from that feminist ´´lady`` who whines because it didn't pass that stupid chick-talk test and isn't even a critic. Seriously?

Personally I'm very happy with these early reactions from all of these fine trustworthy people and am very confident that MOS is a great film that will score highly with both the critics and audiences alike. Of course not with everyone that is expected but the majority matters not a very small minority. :word:

Yeah, honestly, I didnt give one crap when Rachel died.

I hate come review time because it always get nasty and for no reason. It's a fact that even if this movie gets the majority of critics to like it that some just flat out won't like it and they aren't dumb for not liking it. It's a fact that flaws are going to be pointed out in just about every film.

I don't care what noobs and already lousy posters do but I will certainly be disappointed if any of us oldtimers start bashing bad or reviews that point out flaws when we haven't even seen the film yet.

Gees, your setting the bar quite high there.

I don't mind terrible reviews, but if you're going to say something sucks or is terrible/abysmal, then explain why.

true, we're still under embargo right now. but if a more detailed negative review shows up later, I wouldn't mind reading it if they actually explained why they thought the film was awful.

then you can get an idea if it's the film itself that has problems or if the negativity is due to the reviewer's own bias.

Just from the fact that rachel was cut off in midsentence trying to comfort Harvey right befoe the bomb went off, has always had a huge impact on me every time that I watch TDK.

It might have had an impact on me if it was Katie Holmes(yes I liked her better)

I didn't either as I didn't like the character from the start because she isn't a character. And I never loved the idea of Wayne having a childhood love interest anyhow.

You got me there. I should say I want the character to be as good as Hath-Cat even if like that character Lois doesn't get enough screentime.

Actually,I always thought the big problem with Rachel Dawes was that she was underwritten.
I thought both actressess did the best they could with that .
But, I liked Katie too and I was sorry that she didnt come back.

:cmad:
Me too. This automatic assumption that anything Nolan is involved with will have this "hyper-realism" is ignorance on two counts.
1. Nolan & Goyer's definition of that is a real and lived in world. One that that doesn't feel fake. It doesn't mean the character is compromised.
2. And like you said, he doesn't treat every single character the same. He respects where they came from, and what makes them who they are.
Something as simple as him saying he didn't want to lose the flowing cape while on the Batpod. That it's "romantic" and "Batman". That makes me believe him.

I have not seen the bolded yet. What were his/her thoughts?

So if the majority, audiences and critics alike HATED MOS and I LOVED it ,
The majority trumps my opinion?
I disagree.
