I love Begins, but it always feels somewhat "dull" to me in a way simply because the "coolness" factor of Batman just isn't there. The epic and "awesome" aspect of his character is really downplayed, almost to a fault, IMO. MOS seems to have kept that aspect of Superman in tact, or perhaps they had to since he IS an alien from another planet who can fly and this version of Superman is still tantamount to that? Idk....point is while I like Begins a lot and liked it the more I watched it, I can understand peoples criticisms with it being "dull" or whatever. They took a lot of Batman out of Batman in a way and were a little more "apologetic" with some of it than they were with Superman from the looks of it.

Oh and...

Dat Snyder, I lurve that guy.

I don't know. To me, it actually looked like Nolan went OUT of his way to make Batman feel "cool." Having him clobber a whole gang on his first night with the mask, the big tumbler race to Wayne manner, the Bat sonar, the part where he saved the orphans, etc. I don't want to be REALLY offensive, but I think Nolan probably didn't let his overall visual style be influenced by the comics (though Bale suggested larger-than-life camera angles that HELPED BB seem a bit more comic-bookish, and a lot more cooler)
Whereas Zack practically comes off of a literal comics background. I'm sure he's trying to make Superman "cool" but he's doing so by bringing to life the over-the-top action and battles from modern comics into the film world.
It just seems more organic, with framing that emphasizes the bigness of the characters and their environment.

I like Nolan, but I don't think he really bothered with capturing comic book action, except for Bane "breaking" Batman in Rises. If he had, we might have seen Batman give a ton of flying kicks, throws, etc.

If this makes me seem like a bitter fanboy, I actually think that DC wasn't ready for a more comic-bookish Batman after B+R. MOS can transition DC out of its limiting "realism" and eventually give us the fantasy universe we want.

The suit is part of the problem. They need to develop something more flexible than the heavy rubber crap that we've seen Batman running around in for the last 25 years.

One is by some nameless user who says he hasn't seen the movie but spoken to four people who have who say it's abysmal, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. The other is by Jenn Murphy and she says it's terrible. I never said the tweets were reliable, just that there have been negative tweets.

I honestly don't believe the 4/5 found it horrible thing. Even statistically it makes no sense.

YES! The bulky suit looks different and slows the actors down.
Have Snyder overhaul the Batman suit ;) His new Superman suit is near perfect. Many fans actually prefer it to the "New 52" design.

Watching the MOS be placed beside Green Lantern's and Batman's reminds me that the new Superman suit is a perfect blend of comic-bookish and "realistic."

It looks functional and sturdy, but flexible with underlying comic sensibilities.

I don't really get the bechdel test stuff... I mean, it's a Superman movie... pretty much none of the characters are going to be talking about anything other than Superman...

The Bechdel test has its uses and I think it is a valuable consciousness-raiser in terms of how we look at women’s roles in movies. But take it with a grain of salt; it’s not a universal truth - like some law of physics.

I agree with you, though, that it may not even apply to MOS. All indications are that Lois is first drawn to the “guardian angel” as a story. And it’s not too surprising that a journalist would actually talk about the subject of her articles. :word:

Snyder would do very well with the suit. His Night Owl suit was more functional than any of the Batman suits we've seen.

OK I'm gonna give cause I've sort of been going along with the ride but what on earth is the Bechdel Test?

^ Yes. I want to mourn the type of citizens they could have been, the fact that Jor-El and Lana are doomed, and that a whole civilization is dying.

Basically rating a movie based on:

1. It has to have at least two [named] women in it
2. Who talk to each other
3. About something besides a man

But the thing is, some plots simply aren't structured in a way for that dynamic to happen. I guess the
Kent/Lane
confrontation doesn't count cuz.. Clark.

Not according to Lex Luthor. :cwink:

Man it better be sad when they send Kal-El away. And also when the planet explodes. I'll be disappointed if it's not.

Since the beginning of Trailer 3 already makes me cry, I can't see how i'm not gonna be balling :p

This is the same approach that was taken with Batman. Both are attempts to ground these characters in the real world, without them actually being all that realistic. The difference is one is a man and the other is alien from another planet who shoots fire from his eyes and can fly.

The approach isn't what is different here. It is the characters and there abilities.

There are certain elements of Superman that are make-or-break for me. Krypton needs to explode. Jor-El and Lara need to die after their son flies to safety. Superman can't kill. The movie can have the best writing and acting, the most thrilling action sequences, but if these defining aspects of the character don't happen, it won't even matter to me because it won't be Superman. It makes me nervous when I hear things about serious changes to the mythology, especially when it's rumored that certain elements of the film are inspired by JJ Abrams' Flyby drafts.

I also like the fact that we'll have action on Krypton with Jor El and Zod fighting.

^ This.

Is anyone else feeling as much of an emotional wreck as I am at the moment?

It's just these last legs, knowing we are so close... really killing me. :(

Honestly, I'm going to miss the buildup to the movie.

lol... that's a great trailers. It's surprising that a cbm evokes so much emotion that doesn't feel cheesy or forced. You don't see that much.

Agreed.
