Was Goyer caught off-guard from the backlash over Man of Steel's ending? "To a certain extent, Superman, cinematically, hadn't been reinvented since the Donner films," Goyer says, expressing the need to do something different in their take. "We will be dealing it with the coming film. He's not fully formed in [Man of Steel]. He will have to deal with the repercussions in the next film."

I wonder if that was the plan all along or he really didn't expect that big of a backlash and feels the need to address it.

MOS wasn't big on showing what happened to "the masses" so much, including on Krypton.

Lex will likely be the villain of the movie. Perhaps with Joker.

There were recent rumors of the JLA film being written with Lex and Joker as villains, but that could have been repurposed,or have actually been the MOS2 script.

As someone else said, its really looking like the LexCorp and Wayne Enterprises easter eggs weren't just clever easter eggs for an expanded universe, but rather hints for the next film.

You know what would've been nice? If they had done a complete story instead of going the "Oh, we'll deal with it in the next one" route. Hollywood needs to stop doing that in general.

I really do feel that was the plan.

Snyder, Goyer and Nolan knew the plan was for more than one film. That's why things such as Superman being highly destructive, as well as killing a man (Kryptonian or not) was featured.

They were placed there to help further develop the character in a future film,where he'll have to deal with the repercussions, progress from where he was as a hero in MOS, become the hero we know he'll be.

But they've been saying all along MOS was supposed to show Clark being thrust into being a hero, JUST as he's learning about his alien roots. The whole point of this is that he is new to be a hero, and thus, he is very reckless in dealing with the Kryptonians.

Yeah, he SHOULD have to deal with the consequences of his actions in MOS (which did convey a different, more reckless Superman as promised by the filmmakers), but that's stuff for AFTER the big climatic battle.

So in this case, its better and more logical for it to be saved for a future film.

The REAL issue about this is that they didn't make it clear enough to audience, in the film itself, that it WOULD BE DEALT WITH, albeit later.

There is a method to their madness, believe it or not. It isn't a simple case of them being lazy and saving it for later.

This is Man of Steel 2.

This isn't a simple Worlds Finest movie (That, nor Batman/Superman is even the title as of yet). This is a sequel to Man of Steel. It will have all of the characters from MOS returning, and it WILL focus largely,and primarily, on Superman. HOWEVER, Batman will have a very large, and very important role in the film.

Yeah that would be ridiculous. If Clark goes around saving lives, he's already against killing. Batman could however lecture him about being more strategic when he deals with baddies.

Well, I'm just going off what they kept selling about this whole "first contact" stuff and nothing really came from in terms of the world's reaction to Superman. But, that's all saved for the sequel, which wasn't a guarantee.

I've been rooting for Batman to be in the Man of Steel sequel since BEFORE MOS came out, and I have always felt it could be done, while still progressing Superman's story as well as if he wasn't featured.

That's not to say he should be unimportant or have a role that could be filled by anyone, but the story should do well to progress Superman, regardless of his presence.

Of course the opposite would a Spidey 3 scenario in which you dump too much story/plot into one film as opposed to focus on nailing one theme etc down.

MoS about the first chapter, arrival and purpose.
The second logical chapter would be about fallout.

I mean we didn't see the effects of batman on the populace till the second(amazing) film did we not? From the villains his presence to created to the "heroes" he inspired.

In fact, it was quoted that they said they did not know what they were calling it yet!

Please provide a link to anyone involved with the new movie saying words to that effect.

Calling this MOS2 is like calling the Avengers the sequel to the Incredible Hulk.

I like the idea that another hero will be featured.

As they said before, they want us to believe that the world is filling up with heroes after Superman appears.

And again, just because Batman is going to be featured, that doesn't mean the film has to focus PRIMARILY, on the Superman/Batman relationship.

I think it will be better to show that, rather than them just telling us that, via easter eggs or some other means in the movie.
