Honestly, when it comes to Pa Kent's death scene, if I could have reworked that scene in a different way, I would have gone about it where Clark and Jonathan get trapped under a pile of rubble, trucks perhaps, from the force of the tornado approaching and that it was shown that Jonathan was starting to have a heart attack.

The only way to break out of there and get his dad to the hospital in time for them to do some good would be by using his strength to lift up the cars. However, Jonathan is able to see that a group of people are standing across the street from them and knows that if Clark uses his strength now, they'll see him, so Pa Kent holds onto Clark tightly and begs him not to lift up the rubble over them and to wait for the emergency crew to arrive (but Jonathan knows that he's going to die beforehand), and Clark regretfully does so while being held by his dad and Jonathan dies right when the emergency crew arrive to help them get out of the rubble.

I could see that working, emphasizing more that it was risky for Clark to use his abilities while out in the open.

My main issue with the tornado scene is that it needed the danger factor to be stronger. Or maybe even have Martha even telling Clark he can't go because there are people around, followed by Clark making a gesture towards Jonathan, only for Jonathan to put his hand up and shake his head. Maybe that would've been unnecessary.

My dad, huge Superman fan, saw it last night and he didn't like it at all. :(

^curious how this fixes anything(outside of paying homage to the old heart attack).
honest question.

Well in my honest opinion, instead of showing Clark just standing there and seeing Jonathan die, I think some would have a easier time taking in that sacrificial moment if Jonathan was like literally holding onto him in some way that prevented Clark from moving, if that makes any sense.lol

That and I think it may have even helped if there was some indication/notion given to Clark from Jonathan earlier on that he (Jonathan) wanted Clark to watch over the people under the bypass and make sure that they were okay and that even in the worst case scenario, if all of their lives were in danger, that Clark would at least be close to them in order to help them.

The guy at the comic shop I go to thought it was just OK, he said he felt it went on too long.

I thought it was perfectly done, one of the most poignant moments in the movie. Had he been holding on to him the tornado would have taken him up as well. He wasn't just "standing there" he was in turmoil between saving him but showing everyone watching who and what he really was, or allowing his father to die and him do nothing to keep that secret. That is huge, had he been holding on to him people would have questioned how his father died but he survived a direct hit from a tornado. Had they gone with your scenario it would have changed the whole dynamic and reasoning of the scene. The sacrifice was not only on the part of Jonathan, but the sacrifice of Clark as well because he had to make the decision to "allow" his father to die, not just let him die because he "couldn't" save him. He could have saved him, that was the whole point.

I suppose because I'm not Superman, but I really battle with the idea of letting my Dad die for ANY reason.

I figured him to be 18. Just a guess.

If Clark is 33 in 2013, that means he was born in 1980. Pa died in 1997, Clark would be 17-18*depending on if film was set in 2012 or 2013*

^ Thanks guys. Just wondering - at that point Clark is a bright young man (shown reading Plato earlier), but he isn't emotionally mature yet, at least judging from his last exchange with Pa Kent in the car. Very much still a 17-18 year old coming into his own.

And while Clark might have understood Pa Kent's sacrifice and intentions on an intellectual level, would he have accepted them on an emotional one? That is, leave your father to his death when you have in you all the means to save him.

Kinda hope that's not true TBH. I'd much rather see MOS 2 first.

Maybe if it's Superman with Batman helping

hmm, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! although I would prefer MOS 2 first, potential to shoot MOS 2 and WF back to back? MOS 2 July and WF December? Could that work?

Same. If it's true then color me disappointed.

Maybe if it's Superman with Batman helping

I might be OK with that, kind of like Batman helping Superman escape when Lex captures him with the help of recovered Kryptonian technology (or whatever) but I can't imagine WB putting Batman in a supporting role.

I love Batman but Im a Superman fan first and foremost. And it saddens me that I can't just get one movie with Superman being Superman (and not becoming Superman ;) ). I would love WF after MOS2, especially done in a creative way (and not like this - if true - the biggest money grabbing move in recent history).

And Goyer writing this??? Ugh, shoot me now.

Hope it turns out to be BS.
