I still don't get how the film was "bleak". It's a ton of fun, with amazeballs action. Are there also somber and serious character moments that made me cry? Yeah. Are there moments when you empathize with Clark and some, repeat, some his darkest days? Yeah. Still... Bleak? Depressing? I am sorry, I just find those to be overstatements at best, plain ole' mischaracterizations at worst. Yes, I was CRUSHED by the decision that Superman was written as having to make. His scream, like Reeve's scream in S:TM was primal and unvarnished. We see a Superman that has become the Last Son Of Krypton by his own hand. But we are left with the memories of Pa Kent and the start of Clark's career at the DP, and we know that he has found a mission, connection and purpose in life that he did not have when we first see him as an adult in the film. This is all hopeful, emotional stuff. POSITIVE emotions.

Yes. Very much so. But people wanted a shot of Superman boo-hooing over Metropolis to feel the emotion of the was justified....:whatever:

One scene needed would have been after knocking zod out the picture he could have tried to pick up a falling building or something like that, only to have zod knock him away. Only to really show people could not be saved

Why is this such a point for people? Why? WHY? WHY!? It's such a minuscule little point to tear a whole movie down over. Like it's been said over and over again: Where is this standard for the comics and toons? Sure, there are comics where he saves people from destruction but there are just as many where it's not addressed at all. Same with the cartoon.

And for one thing, he didn't have TIME to "stop a building from falling" because Zod was on his ass the whole time. And point to me where in the film a building literally collapsed because of their fight? Parts of buildings were destroyed, but never a whole building.

I agree with this. It's best to let the destruction issue slide. Yes, buildings were destroyed. Yes, people died. He can't save everyone, especially since he is new at this and has a trained, hardened, warrior General on his ass all the time, who, I might add, was born to fight and do battle.

I enjoyed this movie and it's definitely top 10 comic movies I've seen, but come on, just one scene where it showed he couldn't save people was necessary. Slamming through downtown and the heart of the city, shows the hero isn't too smart. First day or not.

I remember just after I saw the movie there was some talk about Zod and Jor-El's relationship and what everyone thought about it, etc. It was part of the Krypton Prequel talk I think.

Well the other night watching the Special Features on my DVD, Michael Shannon kind of talked about that, saying something about how he thought Jor-El was likely some kind of mentor to Zod, and there was that kind of bond, that he'd taught the General a great deal.

Quick question for those who read the prequel comics. What is the significance of the open pod? I know it's a reference to Supergirl, but I don't get it.

[BLACKOUT]I gave it a read and from what I recall, Kara was in one of the pods. Someone trying to kill her was in the other.[/BLACKOUT]

There's no time for him to do that. Any time he spends trying to save someone is time Zod is killing and destroying. He's saving everyone by taking out Zod. Would have been good to see but not neccessary

Seeing a lot of the BTS stuff, it seems like a lot of the stuff that they cut out of the film were just mainly expository material; like how they filmed things like Clark telling the people in the rubble to stand back so that they would be safe before he confronted Zod in Metropolis; or even like how they filmed Clark just leaving a Church.

Where does Zod get his codex from when he goes to get the genesis chamber

I'm not sure I understand the question? The plan was to kill Superman because he had been bonded with the Codex. Zod didn't need the Codex to activate the Genesis chamber, I don't think.

EDIT: He was gonna kill Kal for the codex, which he said rght before terminating the Jor-El AI

The codex is in Kal's blood/cells. Jor-El transferred it there in the beginning. It's not the key that controls the ship(s). It seems like all Kryptonians had those, almost like an ID card or something.

Oh ok. So the thing he puts into the ship wasn't the codex. Ooh ok yeah that all makes a lot of sense now. Man I feel dumb now

So, Was Cavill's Superman slightly morphing into Christopher Reeve's Superman when he was trying to stop that machine intentional or unintentional?

I guess we'll have to ask somebody at WETA?

Kal-El wasn't the only baby to be shipped off from Krypton before it was destroyed?

Thought Kara would have somehow turned out to be the baby that was harvested from that thing that grew babies/children in the movie right before Krypton exploded. Maybe it could have also been another baby that was shipped off the same day as Kal-El was but didn't land on earth but some other planet & that baby will grow up to be a future bad guy.

Thank you!

Hmmm...I might have to pick it up and I said I wouldn't read any Superman comics until they fixed that Lois Lane ****, but I might have to break my word. This movie makes me want to read Superman comics even though I said I wouldn't...

Yeah...it's a good Superman movie even though it didn't have EVERYTHING I wanted.

I want to love this movie, more than anything. But I can't. I can't love a Superman movie where Superman shows absolutely no concern, none, to those who have died.

The only thing I found that added insult to injury was the lack of appropriateness when Superman and Lois decided to make out. A ton of people had just died and they decide that it's ok to french kiss under the raining ashes of the dead civilians of Metropolis.

Hey, what's more romantic than inhaling the ashes of thousands of dead men, women and children? I sure know I'd love to have a significant other that wants to make out in the face of one of the worst western disasters.

I was too busy thinking about how wanted my lips to be hers to really be concerned with that...lol. Seriously though, I...understand where you guys are coming from. Now that I can have conversations about the movie, I have spoken to several people who hate it with the same passion I hate SR. To each his own...
