The climax of the film is a bit clunky because Jenkins is trying to wrap up the emotional journey of Diana while also trying to bring the spectacle that a 3rd act requires for this type of film. On top of that, she's doing some thematic work in the climax as well and it's alot and it meanders a bit. On top of that, Ares is just okay. If someone said he was the weakest villain that a DC film has ever produced, other than Enchantress, I would maybe agree with that statement. He's an idea through out the film until he becomes literal and at times, he's effective. Others times, not so much.

BUT, there are powerful, charged emotional moments in this climax that DO work...at least it did for me. At one point, Patty Jenkins goes Emperor Palpatine seduction/Luke flirting with the dark side with Diana and Ares that even I was taken aback by.

I'm not saying that climax derails the film. It's just not remotely as good as the first two acts. It's standard comic book movie 3rd act weakness that is very emotionally charged, which makes it feel like it works more than it actually might.

Should be in spoilers!! I really didn't need to read some of what you wrote!' Also your bumming me out now I'm not as excited anymore :csad:

Yeah there was a ton of damn spoilers that really pissed me off you doing that bro!! Some of us haven't seen it and you just ruined a possibly great scene that we will all see coming now thanks to you! I hope it was worth it cause that's messed up :cmad::cmad:

"I liked it even better the second time" is something I heard five, maybe six people say last night after WONDER WOMAN. Including me

Isn't he the writer that started the "Critics that hated it are keeping quiet now. People I was with at the screening didn't tweet yet, which might be because they were disappointed" thing.

A good sign. :cwink:

So happy for this movie's success. Hope this breathes life into the DCEU, and that JL continues this hotstreak

Yep, he's the one.

I liked the 3rd act of this movie way more than all of the previous DCEU movies. It was doing things that were more than about action and villains, there was a point about humanity that was being made that I thought was beautiful. It crescendoed nicely for me.

He didnt spoil as much as you think and it should not ruin your enjoyment of the scene or the movie. He should have put it in spoiler tags but it wasan honest mistake.

Now your giving me a little more hope again! What Jumpman said was upsetting cause it was spoilerish without any courtesy! He also made the film sound like it was in lack of a better word....WEAK :csad: very upsetting

Weak is the last thing this film is.

Jumpman liked the film, he certainly wasnt saying it was weak. Even the reviewer didnt say that. (just 3rd act issues)

The thing is the third act is always going to be a bit weak because it is almost all action and little plot. The build up is always better because you learn things and experience them as they happen.

Just relax buddy just wait it out you will love the film :)

Superhero films typically have weaker third acts. It's unfortunate but it's not uncommon, even for the better-received ones.

It's just a difference of opinion. He likes MOS and BvS more than I do. I liked MOS and I loved BvS UE, but there are elements missing in both for me. They are small elements that elevate a film that gives them more heart. I see WW as a classic movie that goes beyond superhero/comic book movies. It hits all the points that a classic film would.

Patty is telling WW story in a way that seems different than what you see in comic book movies that are either too serious or too fluffy.

There is awesome action in this movie but I feel that you could make this same film and have WW be a regular person like Steve and it would still hit home. It would still be about a journey to not only become a hero but to grow up and become an adult. I can't wait to see it again.

Thank you buddy! Your giving me hope again! DC means a LOT to me and all of us and it had me worried and a little bummed from reading his comment even on the third act mixed with the conversation of that guy from Forbes who hates CBM and Jumpman agreeing with what he had to say! Got to me emotionally a bit and that tells you how much each DC movie is important to me! I still can't wait and I know I'll love it

Thank you both!! Really bringing my Hype back and reassurance!! Negativity even the slightest can always damage! It's comforting especially coming from you Wanda about what you posted! Sounds wonderful and such a beautiful story! My only concern is that I love Ares as a villain and from what I hear he may be a throway and not important and as bad as Enchantress :csad:

Jesabel‏ @JesabelRaay
@JLDlite
Does the second watch fix some of the issues you had during your first watch?

Josh L. Dickey‏@JLDlite
It really does. More comfortable with 1st act tone & picked up missed story points that guide the action. Villains still underwritten tho :[

Jesabel‏ @JesabelRaay
All of them or the main villain?

Josh L. Dickey‏@JLDlite
Ehhhh all of em kinda. But honestly, if that's in service of more Gal screentime, I'll take that trade every time

No it probably just means GOTG 2 is just this dreadful
Absolutely not. It just means the humor is organic to the story and it's juvenile like VOL. 2.
No. There is definite humor but it isnt quips and forced jokes. It is just situations that make you laugh like Diana's naivete or Steve's complete befuddlement at the Amazons.

Good. Every time I see a new tweet it's all "Oh, so funny. Hilarious. Everyone was laughing".

Actually I believe Scott is one of the most sincere critics out there. The guy will speak his mind and wouldn't get lost in fanboy euphoria. Just take a look at his scores for CBMs last year. It is scary looking. He hates blockbusters these days because they are more of the same and he says he'll give WW a fresh rating so that's already a big win.

I think I need to start following this guy if he's that sincere. It's so rare among these critics and fanboyism.

How does this...

Yeah. I mean, there are moments here and there that fit more perfectly with Snyder's work but this thing is the lightest of the DC films so far. But, it does not skirt around the issues of war in the film at all. It's a pretty balanced film through and through.

But, I would also say that's it's not really any of the Marvel films except for THE FIRST AVENGER. And even this film is a touch darker than THE FIRST AVENGER.

reconcile with this?

I just find it hard to believe there is no cynicism in the movie. There can't be hope without cynicism, because there needs to be cynicism for hope to overcome it. The Amazons are cynical about mankind. It's set in World War I. Steve is meant to be more world weary compared to Diana's idealism. Diana does lose some of her naivete when confronted with unexpected truths. She doesn't become a public superhero like Superman either.

Eh, I'm really hating the idea of another WW in the past. I get where Patty is coming from tho, many moments of history and you could just add Diana/WW in there, like goddamn Forrest Gump, but i'm not feeling it at all. If true, we wont see Diana in the present dealing with issh that other JL/DC characters outside of JL movies and cameos. Hell, you can even add Waller and ARGUS into her storyline now if they wanted to. It just feels like a missed opportunity.

I liked the villain a lot. I don't think he was under written. The movie is called Wonder Woman not Wonder Woman vs villain. The villain is better than red skull, 95% of marvel villains, and is on par with zod for me. I actually like the villain more than zod. I think the war aspect adds to that. There is twist that explains why the villain may not seem to be that present. Just watch it and make up your own mind about it.
