What movies could receive their Oscar votes next year

These are all new academy voters too. I'm kinda starting to believe that Jenkins could sneak into a nom, just a feeling. I also feel like the film in general will get lots of love from the academy.

LATHAN: I really loved Wonder Woman. Patty Jenkins did an amazing job on that. It’s so empowering. I went with my mother and cousins, and the whole evening we were doing our Wonder Woman poses! It was so inspiring! It hit me on more than an entertainment level. It hit me on a deeply empowering and uplifting level. That’s exciting for me to know that little boys and little girls are going to see that in their consciousness as they grow up.

CHOPRA: I think it’s going to be a great year for women. [I support] Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled and of course Wonder Woman. Also Get Out! I’m also really looking forward to Blade Runner 2049.

I'll be a hardcore fanboy here and say f**k it, Gimme the OSCAR. WW deserves great love and recognition. It was zod damn amazing. Brought feelings I've never felt in years.

A win for the Costume Design is highly likely at this point but a few nominations for Jenkins, Gal and Chris would be f**king awesome. All of 'em put in a mighty shift that will resonate with folks for years to come.

Jenkins should have received at least an Oscar nomination for her directional debut feature 'Monster'. This was the strongest film of 2003 for me.

Peter Jackson won for The Lord of the Rings, other nominations were Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Clint Eastwood (Mystic River), Fernando Meirelles (City of God), Peter Weir – Master and Commander.

I would have replaced one of Eastwood, Weir and Coppola with Jenkins and the winner to be Meirelles for City of God.

It would be amazing if Patty gets a Best Director nomination. I don't know if she'd get beaten by Sofia Coppola for the Beguiled, but hopefully that won't have a leg to stand on. That's just the same old kind of movie from people though - not breaking any new ground at all.

It would be even more amazing if WW got a best picture nomination, or Gal or Chris got best actress and best supporting actor nominations.

If WW could actually get nominated for best picture, or even win it, that would be the most amazing feat for a comic book movie. I think it would elevate this movie above the others. It already appeals to a much broader demographic.

Really surprised she didn't

With the film being such a success all around maybe now a fire will be lit under WB's ass and they will give us a proper WW solo cartoon. I would even get Jenkins to consult on it.

The 2009 WW cartoon is my favourite DC animation of all, even over Under the Red Hood and Mask of the Phantasm. Def 9/10 for me.

Edit: I know I've said that before, but I rewatched it recently for the first time in quite a while to see if it held up. And yup, I still feel the same.

WB will need to hold some Academy screenings this winter if they want to give WW a serious push.

If they feel there is a genuine chance and that the Academy seem interested, then I'm sure they will do that.

Where has she kept her bracelets?

I'm glad it's not like the Lynda Carter series where, if they were removed, suddenly she was powerless.

I've always been a fan of "the amazons don't remove their bracelets"

Yeah, this movie is going to resonate for a long time.

I caught it again over the weekend, in one of the smaller venues nearby. I can't say enough about Gadot's performance in the lead role. Gadot, Pine and Jenkins all deserve consideration, in my view. Glad to see there is some buzz about nominations and such.

Wonder Woman isn't Oscar nomination worthy in direction or acting. Maybe they can get a nod in costume design or vfx. Oscar films transcend their genre often times, this is not one of those films. If this gets an Oscar nom, it's been a lousy year in film.

Have to say I pretty much agree. Wonder Woman was a thoroughly enjoyable, well made superhero movie. I will buy it and watch it several times. I'm delighted that the DCEU has a certified hit to its name. But I saw nothing that screamed 'Oscars!' to me.

Which of course they will but people enjoy speculating.

If anything the costume department deserves a nomination. The Amazon armor looked phenomenal as each one was unique plus all the period clothes were well done too!

Yes I grant you the costume department did do a great job. Maybe them, but nothing else for me.

Six comic book films have been nominated for an Oscar. Only one, was not nominated for vfx,make-up,song, sound,or art direction. That one film is TDK which had Health Ledger for best supporting.

Costume department deserves not just nomination but a win.

People around here were all "I haven't seen this film getting over praised at all (those folks really need to see the review thread). But, really... People are throwing around Oscar noms or WINS for best picture?

I like the film It's solid and well done. Great realization of WW. The director, the production design, the cast and it's lead actress delivered where they needed to...But Best Picture worthy?

I stand by my comment, the costume department has done a great job. Looking at the variety of costumes they had to create..

Costuming was really good. That is a category where it should be a contender.
