Comics Amazing Spider-Man #561

I thought the implication was that Norman did rape Gwen; that he hypnotized her into statutory rape. Doesn't Gwen say something like she "magnetically drawn to him"?

Man, that's grasping at straws.

But it works for me! :woot:

Remember, MJ knew who Peter was since wayyyyy back around when Pete left his house in his Spidey suit one day. And she kept that knowledge to herself all those years...until Peter proposed to her.
But NO ONE knows who Spidey is. Wasn't everyone's mind wiped or something?

Even if we say MJ doesn't know, the writing and art clues they are giving to suggest that she DOES know are staggering, and if she doesn't know, it's stupid to do so. Remember, we, the readers know what happened, so giving us clues that MJ remembers is asinine if she doesn't actually remember.

It's like back watching wrestling where they would lead you on with no real puprpose except to say "We tricked you!!!!"

Sins Past was grounded in some reality. I read an article that said 'dad porn' was actually rising above MILF stuff in internet searches. Cool?

I think the whole idea was bad. It seemed very contrived to get the twins with an accelerated growth (though ironically, in real time, that's how old the twins would have been-or older, being born in the early 70's).

It was bad with Norman as the dad. It would be bad with Pete as the dad. It was just a bad idea, made to "shock."

EXACTLY. That story SUCKED. There, someone had to say it, sheesh.

It was about as good literature as letters columns in Hustler magazine.

There were a couple of parts I disliked...

like the whole Gwen controversy, It really would have been better if Gwen didn't just jump into bed with Norman. Normy takes what he wants. thats always been his character.

I also thought it was a bit weird that Peter carried around the knowledge that him and Gwen shared the same blood type...I mean he did love her...but dang...lol.

I don't think that's strange at all. I know my girlfriend's blood type.

That's true. So perhaps her special request with Mephisto was "Let me remember who he is". That'd be a whooooole lot different than "Let me remember us being married and all of our history."

I don't even know MY own blood type...

:csad:

It would be a whole lot weirder too :)

Imagine being torn away from your loved one, and asking one last favour: "Please, let me remember her middle name!" :D

Weeell I guess I was thinking in terms of Gwen being dead since 73 in real life when I said that. haha

my mistake.:oldrazz:

I don't think I've ever heard your opinion on the gwen twins though iloveclones. :)

Someone had to say it? Everyone has said that Sins Past is a ****ty story.

God, Doc, you're such a rebel for hating Sins Past! :whatever:

I think we have gone off course in this thread. It is about Amazing #561. We're suppose to be talking about MJ jumping in bed with the movie star, not Gwen jumping into bed with Norman.:oldrazz:

I'm very open-minded about things. I loved the clone saga, especially the reveal. I thought it was a very clever way to do a retcon, and I thought it brought a lot of possibilities to the table. I was obviously in the minority.

As for the Gwen twins, well, I don't think it's the devil that people make it out to be. But in the end, it just didn't matter enough to me (beyond being controversial) to be that upset. I think someday, someone will come along and put a spin on it that takes the tarnish off of Gwen. As with OMD, it feels like exactly what it was: a story that started out as one thing, and got it's direction changed. And that's hardly ever a good thing. It surprises me on both that JMS was given so little supervision.

I liked the clone saga as well. :yay:
I wish they had kept Ben Reilly around. This would have solved the marriage problem. They could of given us a book for fans that liked the marriage while at the same time delivering a book that has the original spidey. boom everybody's happy.

but because of fan out cry now we only have one option and the retcon was even worse this time around.

oh well...guess it shows fans aren't always right...I think the mephisto deal is a bit of a stretch but i guess we just gotta see how things play out in the next couple of issues. I do know one thing however, the upcoming : new ways to die story will possibly be the last book I read. If its a poor story that is...:csad: (since its another hyped event)

But nobody was happy... nobody liked the idea that the Peter Parker they had been following since 1975 was a fake...

It definitely was a better story than OMD (it originally was going to be 6 months long), but the fan outrage at the time was obviously greater than what it is now... though 5 times as many readers were buying the book back then compared to today's much lowered sales standards, so you'd have to work the percentages to see any similarities...

Actually, I was. In my mind it was the perfect way to "reboot" the character, and within the continuity of a long existing, standing canon-story. I didn't see the 20 intervening years as any less valid than I look at the marriage years now.

Heh heh... you should have been around here during the Sins Pasts arguments...

We would have made a good team against all the Gwen "purists"...

:yay:
Gads, are we trying to make Cullen angry? :yay:

Actually, I'm sorry I brought the whole "Sins Past" thing up. It was an attempt at commentary that failed miserably.

Sorry I derailed the thread, people. My bad.

I LOVED the Clone Saga, but I don't know if I would've been if I didn't know (assume) that Ben was only going to temporarily be the "real" Peter Parker.

I knew that Peter would eventually be back and everything would be restored, probably by the end of the Clone Saga, so I enjoyed the roller coaster ride we had in the meantime.

But had I been under the impression that this change was here to stay, I don't know how I would've taken it. Probably not as easily.

Well people thought this story was meant to cement Mary Jane as the one Peter was always meant to be with, but the very end of the story showed that Peter would've probably been able to get past that.

I've always liked Gwen better, but since he ended up with Mary Jane in the MU, for the time they should've stayed together till it was really hurting things. There's other continuities to play around with it since Mary Jane isn't necessarily Spider-Man's Minnie Mouse, Lois Lane, Olive Oyle, etc.

Hell, I thought it was brilliant that Medusa was his love interest in the 80s cartoon.

Half the characters in the MU have been Skrulls for 30 + years, because of a story Bendis wrote ten minutes ago.

I could also see them doing this with the mindset of playing it by ear.

I completley agree. I think the only reason it was "destined" to fail is because they let the "clone" keep the name Peter Parker. If the story went that "Fake Clone" pete let Ben Riley keep the name peter, it might have had a shot.

Any story that makes older stories "not happen" is in some way a cop out.

I know...but I was taking the recent events in consideration...
It sucks how fans are torn apart with the new status quo. We should all be able to equally enjoy Spidey. :csad:
I think they should have never married the two in the first place...
I wonder how things would of played out...

I love JMS but he put the nail in the coffin for spidey...making him a teacher and changing his origin is what killed the series.
