The Boys Amazon's The Boys General Discussion Thread

Didn't like the Ryan Twist at the end, despite the great performance by Starr Homelander is getting repetitive he should've been taken out this season and let S4 and 5 be about Soldier boy and Neuman

Question regarding Maeve…

How exactly DID she survive? If I understand it right, Soldier Boy’s blast immediately nullifies a supe’s powers, hence why Kimiko was seriously injured when it happened to her. So shouldn’t the fall have killed Maeve? Still a great finale and great scene but she should have been powerless about half way down when he exploded.

I took it as she landed on soldier boy since they showed Mallory has Soldier Boy and MM picker her up so they was found together

Immediate reaction is that this was the best season out of the 3. I feel like the acting was even better, the character arcs were better, the villains were better, and the analogies while still present weren't so middle school English-y.

On the finale itself, while it was good, I feel was one of the weaker episodes. I liked the final battle but I think everything lacked consequences. Some characters forgave way too easily that made all of the bickering throughout the season feel a bit toothless. Honestly felt a bit MCU-ish. I didn't read any fan theories so I didn't have an ideas or expectations in my head, but still.
-Annie forgiving Hughie. They should've broken up. Not saying that had to hate each other, but the way Hughie acted was enough that I think should've warranted that.
-The whole team forgiving Butcher and Hughie. Yes they had their reasons, but the team shouldn't have accepted them back just like *snap* that.
-Maeve's fate. She should've died. Nothing against the character, but it kinda cheapened her sacrifice.
-Soldier Boy should either be active or dead.
-Hell even MM punching out the dumb stepdad. Nothing really happened there. It's not like MM's ex got super mad from what we saw and the daughter wasn't that scared. Should've carried it into the next season. Also speaking of MM, I wish he got more of a final confrontation with Soldier Boy. He gave him the gas and had his little speech, but I think there should've been more

Improvements for the season:
-I get that Butcher is the star. But I think MM deserved even more focus and should've been even more of a focal point
-What was Frenchie's sideplot. I don't even remember and it hasn't even been that long
-A Train had a great story, but it felt so separate for a large portion of the season
-Soldier Boy was cool but his scenes did start to feel a bit repetitive and I would've loved more interaction between him and more of the cast

But yeah. Best season yet

MM and the radical Step dad will be MM's arc for next season i'm assuming
and I agree they took Butcher back too easy he was basically willing to get Kamiko and Frenchie killed in order to get Soldier boy and once he did he dogged his whole team minus Hughie

Annie and Hughie i can live with that they had a strong bond since S1 and majority of online chatter bout them is Annie was way to harsh on him for him wanting to contribute to the fighting like everyone else

Mauve should have died would have made what she did that more impactful but i guess it still is since she is presumed dead

I hope Soldier Boy returns ep 1 next year he was fantastic and added alot to the show

Weakest finale of the series yet, high bar I know, but this was significantly less satisfying than last season. It also really undercuts a very emotional story beat of S2's finale.

Homelander's plot armour is starting to get annoying.

My thinking is that for supes that can stand toe to toe with Homelander the blast takes a few seconds to fully drain their powers. That gave Maeve JUST enough time to land without getting mushed. Her armor, Soldier Boy's body, and a open top mattress truck that just happened to be passing by Vought Tower are also possibilities.

I’m going to miss
Jensen Ackles in this show. I doubt he’ll be back next season. It was fun seeing him let loose in a TV-MA show like this one since I’m so used to seeing him on CW.

Yeah, I’ve never been impressed with him before… HATED him on Smallville, I thought he was terrible in that My Bloody Valentine remake and I could never get into Supernatural. But Ackles was excellent in this. A perfect depiction of what a jingoistic Captain America type of “hero” would probably turn out to be.

Yeah he wasn’t used to his full potential on Smallville and his role in My Bloody Valentine was meh to me. I did see streaks of Dean Winchester in him as Soldier Boy (of course not to the extent that we see in The Boys).

Hopefully MM’s ex will kick that boyfriend to the curb next season (if she hasn’t done so already)

Yeah, I’m not sure if they are still together but if she’s still with him after what Homelander did in this episode, then there’s something wrong with her. I suppose he could lie to her and say he was appalled by what Homelander did but people like him tend not to be private about their views.

They should have killed Homelander in the finale and then had someone resurrect him next season or had him resurrect on his own then do a really violent and twisted riff on blacksuit Superman.

I mean, let's be honest, My Bloody Valentine being terrible was only in small part Ackles fault. And I hardly remember him on Smallville, but I kinda checked out in the later seasons.

But he was consistently great on Supernatural, even if you didn't like the rest of the show and all its melodrama he was always the best part. Was very happy to see people get a new found appreciation for him as Soldier Boy, especially since a lot of us wanted him as Cap way back when, feels like vindication.

I can understand why the former Mrs. Milk may have chosen someone who is the complete opposite of her first spouse for hubby #2. But Todd is the worst! It's probably best that MM move on from someone that would marry a person like that.

It will be interesting to see if Homelander attempts to revive The Seven. He has a lot of open slots! I suppose he could call he, A Train and The Deep The Trinity and call it a day.

A Train will check out real soon I think. I don’t know about The Deep. I think he will go down with the sinking ship.

Saw some interview with the cast and creator, and Kripke mentioned wanting to never have seven members in the Seven as a joke. It would be hilarious if its just 3 dudes and they still call themselves the Seven.

Amazing finale to an amazing season! This show puts out a whole season of bangers, starts really well, solidifies the season masterfully, then builds up to multiple huge things and finally finishes all of them in style. Where is the filler and weaker episodes that other shows have?

They can get to 4 pretty easily with Ryan. I would be surprised if Homelander doesn't add him to the roster.

For a lot of cape shows the backstory episodes kill the flow or are outright bad. But the Payback episode was pretty great.

I didn't know all that much about him but had him in the ballpark of a regular TV actor, maybe a bit cheesy from some trailers I saw of him. He totally proved himself for me here though and was really great as Soldier Boy.

they running out of comic material to adapt but they been deviating quite alot from it that i think they won't lose steam like GOT did when they ran out of source material for example

They got the Litlle Nina story where she assembles her own russian team she is still alive on the show so they could still do that and the Nior homelander clone is obviously out of the question

I wished they did a mini series on payback during the vietnam war era
that's how good that episode was imo
That period looks like it could have some interesting material for a Boys spin-off. I’d definitely be up for it. Would be good to see more from the young Mallory and Noir too.

Would he have been as good back then? (I haven't watched Supernatural at all) He certainly seems to have what it takes now based on his showing here, no doubt at all. I'm quite surprised and very impressed with how comprehensively he embraced this role.

Pretty good finale.

I was full on expecting them to kill Maeve off but she gets her happy ending after all...hope this isnt the last we see of her or her being the most powerful woman in Superheroics. But her fight with Homelander is exactly what I would expect from a WW v Superman fight (looking at you JL) besides the gouging of the eye lol. But I was satisfied.

Starlights boost...I was super pumped when she was lighting up but was expecting a bit more out of it then her just knocking Soldier Boy to the ground? I wanted to see him at least bleed.

Homelander got his supporters...got his son....dont know how they will be able to keep him in line next season. I was hoping we'd see him knocked down a peg but despite getting his butt kicked, he ultimately won. Daddy is put back on ice. Maeve is temporarily de-powered. Temp-V is no longer gonna be a thing our "heroes" use. Interested to see how they balance things out from here.
