The Boys Amazon's The Boys General Discussion Thread

You can definitely put me down as someone who would love to see more of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in this universe and if you can get him his own spinoff that would be awesome.

Also, seeing him interact more with the other OG team members and getting more of that conflict and tension could make for some really great and compelling storytelling IMO.

It was an okay finale. It seems like they were way more concerned to set up the next season than finish up the season story arch. There's also some convenient moments that kinda took me out.

Season 2 is still my favorite.

I wish we had gotten into Soldier Boy's head more. Him calling Homelander in the previous episode and then immediately
turning against him in this one didn't feel natural. All we get is that he thinks Homelander is "weak" but what does that mean? If Soldier Boy was actually a real war hero and a true soldier then he would definitely dislike someone like Homelander. It would make sense. But we now know that Soldier Boy is also a fake. So where is this "Homelander is weak" thing coming from? I think the intention here was to show that Soldier Boy can't help but treat his own son (and grandson) the same way his father treated him. They could have made this plot point feel natural if Soldier Boy turned against the Boys and tried to be a father to Homelander and Ryan but ends up being abusive towards them (and specially Ryan) which makes Homelander turn against him. But for that they would have needed at the very least a few more episodes.

Alternatively, Soldier Boy's motivation could have been wanting to destroy Homelander because he's the reason Soldier Boy got shipped to Russia. That makes sense. But the show never makes that clear either. Right now I honestly don't understand what the point of the revelation that Soldier Boy is Homelander's biological father was. It affected nothing and made character motivations super messy. This is why I think the writers never actually figured out what makes Soldier Boy tick.

Yeah, he's good enough to lead a spinoff. I want to see more of him if we can. Maybe that cartoon event that we saw in Noir's mind happening in live action. although it would be pretty gruesome lol.

Interesting points there. I wouldn't have minded them adding a bit more there to tackle some of these issues.

It's end the endless cycle of the sins of the father, SB is projecting what he went through onto HL. Soldier Boy said his father was a dick and was still a dick when he got powers. His father screwed him up so he didn't know how to be anything else to Homelander even though you could see the tears in his eyes (seriously, Ackles was awesome). Now we can see the cycle continue with Homelander and Ryan, with the father likely destroying the son beyond repair.

I imagine this will be Butcher's big crescendo, he's going to die but will resolve his own father issues, and by doing so will be able to save Ryan. But this being the Boys, it won't be straightforward.

Yeah, I was thinking something similar to that. The Soldier Boy's father- Soldier Boy-Homelander father-son relationships mirroring Butcher's dad to Butcher, but Butcher eventually coming good for Hughie.

I just wish it got fleshed out more.

It is impressive with Homelander and The Deep, that the character I hate the most is Todd. **** you Todd.

What a finale. Wonderful to see Maeve go full out before she leaves. And as sad as I was to see Noire bite it, everything about him this episode with his animated buddies was great. I laughed too hard at In 2 Deep. The Deep's cycle continues. Really curious where A-train is going to end up. Glad Annie is fully part of the Boys, and I loved her going full out. Hope we see more of that before the finale.

The ending scene makes is clear were next season is going. We are going to get President Homelander, and based on some of the outfits, it is going to happen with an insurrection during the counting of the electoral votes. Also, Cyborg Stormfront is absolutely returning next season. Ryan's journey is going to be interesting. That smile at the end was ****ing creepy

If I have one critique about the season, I do wish they wouldn't be SO heavy-handed with the politics

The entire point of the show is painting a /very/ realistic picture of what superheroes in our world would look like

Not leaning into that would've been a massive mistake

Eh I get that, but to hear exact lines pulled from Fox and T*ump and other right wing terrorists just makes me angry to a point that I stop paying attention to the show. They could be more allegorical and less "quote them directly"

Subtext is for cowards. I respect Kripke and his writers just unleashing their anger about America.

Doesnt even have to be subtext, just don't trigger me with t*ump quotes lol

I mean

it's pretty good political commentary so eh

I'd like to know --
How does Homelander take a spike in the ear like that and not be impaired in any way? While he can take heavy body damage, that was something else.

only thing i did not like was

shouldn't Maeve be dead she took a much bigger blast than kimiko and she was left near dead and kimiko just hit a wall

Maeve flew out of the top of vought tower and just got a sling on

Kimiko doesn't have super toughness. She heals super fast, but she takes damage like a normal human. Maeve, as we just saw, was a lot tougher. While she was losing, she was still almost going blow for blow with Homelander. Super science it to say her toughness saved from the blast before the V was burnt out of her

I was expecting broken leg, a death would have been major but the battle with Homelander showed she is like 2-3 strongest. She made Homelander bleed with accurate strong punches so she has strength on his level and is durable. The blast was point blank but has shown to only vaporize humans and just depowers and damages supes. The Herogasm some of those supes lived but power level would matter. Guessing the depowering is not instant since if it was she would have died but was able to survive that fall.

this is so unsatisfying to watch. Homelander never gets, what he deserves…

At a certain point, the lack of consequences just forces you to not take the storyline seriously.

I swear Vought's stock has "tanked" about a million times in 3 seasons, yet it's just business as usual.
