America...the Thread

My "American" education. My education is mostly in of itself. It comes from reading authors like Melville, Poe, and Lovecraft. It comes from the copious amount of time I've spent researching and forming my opinion on basic elements of history. Even then, my education came from a private school system. Not the dilapidated public system.

American private schools. :yay:

I don't need an MBA to get a plane and leave, you're right. But my parents, who are paying for most of my education, would never let me study in anywhere BUT the U.S. Even if I had interest anywhere else. They wouldn't understand my views and I'd be left with little to fund my "higher" education. It's called playing the hand that's dealt to you. I'm staying mostly for posterity, as I said before. Once I am able, I'll leave this country far behind.

That your parents can afford to do this for you is a tribute to the lifestyle this country has afforded them. Capitalism ....gotta love it.

And I love how you pick the frequently "demonized" countries as sites for my relocation. Actually, I think I'd rather move to Ireland or England. I've been to both and I love them dearly. Loaded. Words.

Demonized? So those countries I mentioned have merit but are misunderstood?

And good ol' Britain...:yay: It'll be Londonastan in the next 10 years.

Demonized? So those countries I mentioned have merit but are misunderstood?

"American private schools" that are less a testament to the country's government itself, and more a testament to those who actually have our best interests in mind.

And England, Ireland, and most every other Western state is also run on the ideas of capitalism. They just don't prescribe to the insane religious views that some leaders in the U.S. do. The fact that my father did well for himself says nothing about the country, but the quality of his work. He got ahead not because of the U.S., but because he is a quality physician. Don't try to bundle both together. I'm sure he'd do just as well in any other Westernized country.

And, yes. Those countries you mentioned are not what you'd set them up to be. You tend to find things that you dislike about a country and then paint that country in broad strokes as a result. You miss the small things that redeem the country, somewhat. Your attempts to paint everywhere else besides the U.S. as imperfect are futile. The U.S. is quickly advancing in the direction of a police state, and that alone is frightening.

You know what I love about America? The fact that we're probably the only western nation that hasnt become a bunch of whiny candy ass pacifist *****es. The last place on earth I'd want to live is europe, its like they put estrogen in the water over there. I'd rather live in the aids capital of africa.

How dare they be war weary. After all they've only been ravaged by tyrants for a almost a thousand years. America's problem is that we haven't had our cities blown to pieces, we haven't had enemy forces invade our nation and watch them exterminate the minorities. So how dare Europe not follow the same cluster **** war hawk diplomacy as we do.

So change it.

Not to be an obvious idiot but 9/11 is just one example of having parts of a US city blown to bits!

Gee I wonder why we havent had our country ravaged by tyrants. Maybe its because we're not a bunch of pacifist candy asses, when we get attacked, we go over there and kick some ass. europe on the other hand will surrender to anything. They surrendered to nazism, communism, and now they're trying to surrender to terrorism.

I dont know about you guys, but im tired of the USA having to save Europes ass every 20 years.

If you want a similar example, imagine if the entire cities of Washington, New York and Boston were ravaged by an attacking force.

A few buildings doesn't constitute "war ravaged." We have forgotten what that really means.

Our country hasn't been ravaged by tyrants? I beg to differ.

If europe acted more like the USA, they wouldnt have to worry about having their cities being "ravaged".

Actually, the USA remained pacifist during the first years of WW2. Roosevelt didn't want to get involved. We didn't attack until after Pearl Harbor. England had to fight off a superior army attacking from many fronts. They didn't surrender, and they paid the price with most of the country ravaged. The French only surrendered in name to keep their country from being torn apart. But they ran a resistance that arguably helped win the war and saved a lot of American ass. Perhaps you've heard of it.

So Europe has had to face realities of war that we haven't faced for 200 years. We got in a tizzy over 3000 and a piece of real estate. They've lost millions and whole cities. We have a larger land mass to attack and we're an ocean away from hostiles. They know better than we do about what war really does. We get to hear about it from afar via CNN. Politicians will send our sons and daughters to fight pointless wars to win public opinion, not being intelligent enough to realize that a war on "terrorism" is fighting an idea that isn't defeated as easily as a set opposing force.

They have a more cautious approach to war because they have been on the front lines when it broke out during the last 100 years.

Ummm I hope you realize WW2 ended more than 60 years ago and most europeans today werent even born yet when it happened. You know that, right?

Ummm, you have heard that those who don't learn the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them, right? Perhaps, and I'm just going out on a limb here, but perhaps they are more willing to learn from what has happened to them so they don't visit that upon someone else.

The whole point is that America hasn't had to face a full blown war on it's own soil since before this soil was it's own. We don't know what that is like. So it's easier for us to start them on the soil of another country because we have forgotten what it is like to have it on our own doorstep.

"American private schools" that are less a testament to the country's government itself, and more a testament to those who actually have our best interests in mind.

Dude...it's a testament to fact that if it's "private", somebody's putting up their own money!!!!! :woot: A LOT OF IT. Money they made in some evil capitalist american system (provided by this government) so that your ungrateful behind can go to school there. Those evil rich people.:woot:

Oh....contraire.....his work quality is a big factor to be sure. But socialist countries take away your hard earnings. Capitalist countries allow you to accumulate wealth. Your dads quality of work would mean nothing if he could not profit from it. This government allows for him to do that.

What did I miss my friend? That they have good food? :yay:

Look...the U.S. is not perfect. Never said it was. But it is the best thing going. Who does the world call on when trouble hits....natural disasters....oppression....for money?? Did you know that the reason the U.S. is the biggest giver to needy causes is because most of that money comes form private citizens?? Common folk who have amassed capital and can now help others?

Wow, the deficit plumetted the moment the Womanizing liar left office. Sounds like someone neglected to make long term plans. I'm not saying W is doing any better, but honestly, think about it.

Call me ignorant if you like, but I fail to see how any of that, except NDR and PCGDP are the responsibilities of the president.Feel free to educate me.

And that means nothing to me when we have a government that cooly ignores the will of the actual people. And we have people like you who would go around and patronize every blindly ignorant decision that our government makes. We're a country run primarily by morons, and it's only going to get worse as time progresses. I'm not willing to stick around to see how it turns out. "Land of the free" my ass.

Oh please, one incident that killed a few thousand people. Not to make light of the incident but that's nothing compared who anything that Europe's seen.

Exactly how moronic are you? Europe's had a warrior culture for over a thousand years, and how exactly did they surrender to the Nazi's? Even when their government was forced to be dismantled their citizens kept fighting the Germans, crack open your history book once in a while, look up the Maquis.

as I said to Kritish... So do something about it.

LOL, yeah, when will you people learn.
when you live in a country, you have to either love the system or leave the country.
that's what the US was founded upon right?
right?
I mean, I thought that the United States of America was born out of REJECTION for the system, but as Celldog has clearly posted, you can either live in a place and never, ever criticize it...or....go live in Iraq.

I mean, that's what the "founding fathers" did when they disagreed with the system their country was using.

they left right?

and went to live in Iraq.

didn't they?

HAHAHAHA!
sometimes I really think you're just joking.:woot:
I mean, there's really no one as ignorant as you is there?

really?:csad:

I mean, like....for real?

What does his cheating on his wife have to do with anything? Feel free to educate me. On second thought, don't. I know it's irrelevant. Clinton had long term plans, and they were great ones--for a Republican. Spend no more than you have coming in; so you don't have to raise taxes, and pay down the debt for our grandchildrens' sake.
The deficit's meteoric rise once Bush took office is a direct result of the Republican policy of creating huge tax cuts for the wealthy (no money coming in) while continuing to spend (much money going out) and not having the guts to cut programs. I was glad to see the president finally show his true colors and tell poor kids to stay sick. At least the Republicans finally took a stand.

Call me ignorant if you like, but I fail to see how any of that, except NDR and PCGDP are the responsibilities of the president.Feel free to educate me.
They are not the responsibility of a president. They are the result of the economics of the time. The president's policies, in conjunction with Messrs. Greenspan and Bernanke, help foster the conditions for the rest of those things. Again, Clinton was a great Republican president who, with the Gingrich folks, helped sell the American worker down the river. Having said that, I'd rather not debate Bush/Clinton, I used those to illustrate that Bush inherited a fairly healthy state of affairs and did a brilliant job of ruining it.
