Amy Adams is Lois Lane: - Part 6

I'm hoping to see Lois portrayed more independently in this film and that her purpose in this story is presented where she's not there for the sake of being Clark's love interest, but being a character that's allowed to help move the story forward as well.

Lois Lane is part of the film, but where are Lana Lang, Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen ?

Here's my take on this that I been wanting to get out for a while now. I don't believe Jimmy is dead, I don't believe Lex is dead, they will all be in the next movie.

I really feel all the events of this film take place before Clark works at the Daily Planet (no glasses because he does not know he is Superman yet). I do believe we will see him hand in an application trying to find work, but that's as far as it goes.

All Daily Planet shooting, IMO is all about Lois Lane. We need to remember that this Clark is trying to find himself, he is working on Oil Rigs, Homeless (from what it looks like), etc, he has not found his place in life yet, he does not know he wants to be a reporter yet.

Jimmy is not working at the daily planet (he's still in School) I really believe that every little thing that we all took for granted in the last Superman films, will all be explained in the next couple Superman movie's. Such as actually showing Jimmy being hired, and how Lex rose to be a bad guy from his roots.

This is my take on this, and it's a good one if this is what they are doing, because now we will all finally get an idea of why, and also this helps with connecting emotionally with the characters.

Love the latest set of images! Such a stunner.

That InStyle shoot is so hot!

So I was reading FILM CRIT HULK this morning, and he has a long, and as usual, awesome article about acting. Here's a section that made me think of this thread immediately:

http://www.badassdigest.com/2011/11/10/film-crit-hulk-smash-acting-101

PLEASE STOP SELECTING ACTRESSES BY HAIR COLOR… REALLY… STOP

FOR SOME REASON THAT HULK CAN NOT UNDERSTAND FOR THE LIFE OF HULK, PEOPLE SEEM TO FAN CAST MOST THINGS ACCORDING TO HAIR COLOR. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THEY WILL BLAME A BAD PERFORMANCE ON SOMEONE BEING CAST WITH THE WRONG HAIR COLOR, OR THEY WILL GET VISIBLY UPSET BY THE CASTING OF SOMEONE NOT OF THE RIGHT HAIR COLOR. LIKE IN THE PICTURE ABOVE OF EMMA STONE AS GWEN STACY… PEOPLE GOT MAD THAT EMMA STONE WAS CAST IN THE NEW SPIDERMAN BECAUSE SHE’S A REDHEAD AND GWEN IS BLONDE. SO, YOU KNOW, SHE’S OBVIOUSLY NOT SUITED FOR THE ROLE…. RIIIIGHT. LET’S JUST COMPLETELY FORGET THAT SHE’S AN INCREDIBLE YOUNG ACTRESS.

WHERE TO BEGIN? FOR STARTERS, HAIR COLOR HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU ABILITY AS AN ACTOR OR WHETHER YOU ARE “RIGHT” FOR A PART. SURE, THERE IS A PART TO WHICH ONE’S NATURAL DISPOSITION OF LOOK SAYS WHETHER YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT FOR A PART (AS HULK DESCRIBED IN THE “IT’S ABOUT THE EYES” SECTION ABOVE. HULK, MEAN ZOOEY DESCHANEL’S LOOK WOULD SEEM OUT OF PLACE AS LIKE A HARDENED COMBAT VETERAN OR SOMETHING), BUT THAT TENDS TO BE OVERBLOWN. AND IF “NOT LOOKING THE PART” REALLY DOES MATTER IN A PARTICULAR CASE, HULK PRETTY SURE THAT FREAKIN’ HAIR COLOR IS DEFINITELY NOT A PART OF IT. FOR ONE, MAKE-UP DEPARTMENTS ARE REALLY, REALLY GOOD AT THEIR JOBS AND CAN MAKE MOST DYE JOBS SEEM NATURAL, BUT REALLY THIS WHOLE O.C.D. LOOKS THING GOES DEEPER THAN THAT TO HOW WE APPROACH CRITICAL THOUGHTS.

YOU EVER NOTICE THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE HAIR COLOR WHEN AN ACTOR IS ACTUALLY GOOD IN THE ROLE? HOW THE CRAZY “CRAIG-NOT-BOND” PEOPLE (WHOSE ARGUMENT WAS PREDICATED ON THE IDEA THAT BOND COULDN’T BE A STOCKY BLONDE DUDE) COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED THE SECOND EVERYONE REALIZED THAT CRAIG WAS FREAKIN GREAT IN CASINO ROYALE? OR HOW NO ONE COMPLAINED ABOUT GWENYTH PALTROW BEING A NATURAL BLOND AFTER SHE WAS BOTH FUNNY AND CHARMING AS PEPPER POTTS IN IRON MAN. THOSE CRITICS DISAPPEARED BECAUSE HAIR COLOR DOESN’T FREAKING MATTER. IF SOMEONE IS GREAT IN A ROLE THEN IT’S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. YET THE IDEA STILL LINGERS. WHAT WAS THE REASON JESSICA ALBA AND BLAKE LIVELY WEREN’T WELL RECEIVED IN FANTASTIC FOUR AND GREEN LANTERN RESPECTIVELY? WHY IT’S BECAUSE THEY CAST SOMEONE WITH THE WRONG HAIR COLOR OF COURSE! RIIIIGHT. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE THOSE PARTS WERE TERRIBLY WRITTEN AND THAT BOTH OF THEM ARE ACTRESSES WHO CAN ONLY DO A CERTAIN THING WELL AT THIS POINT.

BUT THE REASON NO ONE THOUGHT ABOUT THOSE THINGS IS BECAUSE THE TRUTH IS PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA HOW ACTING WORKS. THE PEOPLE MAKING THESE HAIR COLOR COMMENTS ARE ABSOLUTELY TREATING ACTORS LIKE PUPPETS. AND WHEN THE TIME COMES TO CRITICIZE A PERFORMANCE FOR NOT BEING SO GOOD, A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW EXACTLY TO CRITICIZE PERFORMANCE. SO THEY CLING TO THE ONLY EVIDENCE, READ: TANGIBLE DETAILS, THAT THEY CAN SEE WITH THEIR EYES. AND THAT’S WHY BAD ACTING PERFORMANCES ARE BLAMED ON HAIR COLOR. GOOD PERFORMANCES? NO ONE CARES.

THE WHOLE WEIRD DYNAMIC OBVIOUSLY GOES BEYOND THE FISCHER-SALLER SCALE. IT HAS TO DO WITH OUR WHOLE BROAD CHARACTERIZATIONS OF PEOPLE “LOOKING THE PART.” WHICH IS HUGE TRICKY ISSUE. LOOKING A PART CAN HELP YOU EXECUTE WHAT YOU SEE FOR A CHARACTER, BUT THE TONE OF THEIR PERSONALITY AND ACTING ABILITY IS WHAT TRULY MAKES THE PERFORMANCE WORK. LOOKS-WISE, THE CHARACTER JUST HAS TO CREDIBLE ENOUGH FOR IT TO WORK SMALLEST WAY (MEANING YOU CAN’T CAST JOHN HAWKES AS AN NFL LINEBACKER), BUT AFTER YOU ARE CREDIBLE, IT IS THE PERFORMANCE AND WRITING ALONE THAT CARRIES IT FROM THERE. WHILE THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE HAD HUGE RACIAL OVERTONES, NO ONE SEEMED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IDRIS ELBA IN THOR WHEN THEY SAW HOW RIDICULOUSLY FREAKING AWESOME HE WAS IN THAT MOVIE. LOOKING THE PART IS AS IMPORTANT AS IT IS A WEAK AND DISMISSIVE CRUTCH. YEAH IT WOULD BE NICE FOR EVERYTHING TO LOOK RIGHT, BUT YOU SHOULD STRIVE FOR THE STRONGER ACTOR EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I hereby declare a moratorium on Adam's hair color being a point of contention.

Why? Cause some guy ranted on about people who blame bad performances on the actress having the wrong hair colour.

I don't think Amy's hair colour has much to do with what her performance will be like.

That doesn't mean I can't state I'd have preffered it dark...

Adams looks absolutely stunning at that Nov. 12th Muppets premiere, such a beautiful woman. Can;t wait to see her portrayal of Lois Lane

No, because some guy made great points about why hair color doesn't freaking matter and that it's such an insignificant blip in terms of what's actually important about actors, casting, and movies in general.

What's hilarious about the Emma Stone backlash he referred to, is that Emma is a natural blonde.

He had a rant. A very common rant of the 'why do people take things so seriously/get hung up on little details' variety.

Personally I don't find rants like that at all helpful.

It just seems like stating the obvious.

Fans get worked up about silly small details... Really? How insightful!

Of course silly small details are going to continue to come up in discussion. And of course some people will find some things more important than other people. And there will ALWAYS be a few people who go completely over the top with it.

:woot: Yeah, I love that! Certainly shuts people up.

But complaining about Emma Stone's hair colour is a huge level more ridiculous to Amy Adams complaining... because Emma is blonde in the film...

Yeah, I certainly understand being upset about Lois not having dark hair, because I wanted dark hair, but it's not going make or break the film for me.

I think the hair argument is equally ridiculous considering that unlike with Superman, Lois's hair, facial features and general appearance has been ever-changing. As long as she looks believably like a professional reporter, her appearance is moot, imo.

There is a difference in between saying that an actress did a bad job because her hair was the wrong color...and that the interpretation of the character wasn't all it could be because the actress didn't look like the character.

This is true. Her appearance in the comics has really changed quite a bit over the years. She's had light to medium brown hair, dark reddish-brown hair, red hair, jet black hair -- just about every shade you can think of with exception to blonde. Her eye color has also varied to a degree, as she's been seen with blue, brown and even purplish violet eyes. Ditto for complexion -- sometimes fair, other times more olive-skinned. I think the black hair + violet-eyed look was a pretty obvious homage to legendary screen actress, Liz Taylor.

Yes :yay:

Yeah, but her iconic depiction has always been brunette. Ask some random guy on the street to draw Lois Lane and he'll almost always give her dark brown or black hair. I can't imagine anyone drawing her as a redhead.

Yeah, even though the shade obviously varied to some extent, the one constant was that it was usually dark (whether it was brown, black, or dark reddish-brown). It was rarely a very light red.

And then there's being like those Bond idiots who protested Daniel Craig without actually seeing the performance. I see little difference between them and the people up in arms because Lois is going to be a redhead. At the end of the day, what their hair looks like just doesn't matter. His whole point is that characters and how successful an actor is at playing them has almost nothing to do with their goddamn hair color. It's such a small minded sticking point. Is her hair color going to make a lick of difference in terms of whether or not it works as a performance, as a piece of the narrative? No. No, it's not. It's just freaking hair. I'm sorry, but after six variations on this thread and thousands of posts, it's time to put this ridiculous non-issue to rest.
