And the new Punisher is...

I want Thomas Jane back. I don't mind that they're rebooting "Hulk" with a new cast and new director, but Jane to me was the definitive Punisher. He fit Tim Bradstreet and Garth Ennis's Punisher so well. It just really doesn't feel the same. I mean people don't really know this Stevenson guy unless they've seen "Rome" (which I haven't because I don't have HBO) and I think people knew Jane/liked Jane for being who he is/was.

I'd rather see this Stevenson guy be a baddie and Jane come back now that they've got a script and director laid out. Marvel will piss some fans off with this one, they've already got me pissed.

Well that's not reality.

I somewhat agree with that statement. I'm sure once the ball gets rolling, I'll get more into it and I will go see it in theaters (if it makes it that far), but I'm still going to be pissy about TJ not playing the character.

I think we all are sad that Thomas Jane won't be returning, but the thing is we've known for months now that he wouldn't be returning. We all knew that when the time finally came to announce a new actor, it would no longer be that familiar name that we were all used to hearing. It would be someone completely new.

And that's what we have now, it's no use saying "Well Thomas Jane was so much better" because we KNEW he was gone and not coming back. So there's no point in asking "Will Stevenson be better than Jane?" instead ask "Will Stevenson be a good Punisher?" And, at least in my opinion, the answer to that is a RESOUNDING yes! I miss Thomas Jane like hell, but I also know that he's not coming back, so all I can do is look forward to what Ray Stevenson is going to bring to the character.

Another thing is just because the script isn't what Tom Jane wanted doesn't mean it's a bad script. It's just not going in the direction he wanted supposedly. Nobody here really knows what happened...and if they do they won't say it.

Edit: Look at the talkback on this at AICN. It's like romper room. LOL

Ray would also make a great Kingdom Come Superman or Batman as well as Captain America. He'd make a cool Duke or Snake Eyes in a GI Joe movie also.

People are so xenophobic that they would never allow that to happen.

He is actually quiet a good actor, not sure how he'll do as Frank Castle. But I don't doubt him as an actor. And if this does turn out to be DTV, it's a total waste of his talent.

terrible choice, the dude looks to be in his mid 40's, and he seems to be going bald! Looks nothing like The Punisher!
Okay...so you realize though, in the comics, that Punisher is supposed to be in his mid fifties, early sixties.

i thought he was bad ass in rome so i am sure they will put him on the 300 workout plan and he will do a way better job than puny non threatening looking Thomas Jane

...further proof that no matter how big an actor gets for a superhero role, some fanboys will still piss and moan about it and expect to see someone that looks like an impossibly huge, steroid bloated Liefield-monster.

I don't really know what to think about this guy. He doesn't look much like Frank, IMO. But if he plays the part well, I'll be happy.

In the comics Frank Castle is supposed to be 57. But this is a Sequel to the'04 film so that should be the issue, Stevenson is only 5 years older than Thomas Jane. Not a big deal, I just do not think he looks right for the part(looks a bit dopey and out of shape) at all and have yet to see anything that lets me know if he can act, Both in Rome and King Arthur he does action but nothing that takes much acting skill. Thomas Jane is one hell of an actor no matter what film he is in and I am pretty sure I have now seen everything he has been in and he is always good. I have a very very bad feeling about the sequel. I have a feeling that Lionsgate mainly cast him because he probably comes with a pretty cheap price tag since most of his roles have been for British TV.

bad choice....IMO

I completely agree with you. This just seems like a move to just get the film out and done so that they can keep the right. Why they care I am not sure since it has been almost 4 years since the last film and they seem quite happy just milking the hell out of the SAW series and turning out lots of other low budget horror films.

im completely with u on everything u just said as well

The last Punisher movie was the sesame street version.

Complete with corky neighbors, sunny locations, and funny characters with red stripe T-shirts.

Do you even read the Punisher comics? The neighbors and the Russian are from the welcome back Frank storyline. The end of the film is pretty damn close to The Punisher year one Mini Series, even down to the Declaration of intent. I find it funny how so many people spout of crap and apparently don't even read the comics.

I really don't know what to say about all of this. This caught me by surprise. I knew who the actor was, cause I watched both Rome and King Arthur. I guess we'll have to wait and see for more news on him. I really don't have anything bad to say, I gave Jane a chance and he was great. While I do want him back for the role, I guess we'll have to see what Ray can do.

I've read plenty of Punisher comics and few were as lame as Punisher in Tampa chatting with cheesy misfits.

So will Frank be going to New York in this one?

really care to name some of the issues? I mean if you really read the comics I would have figured you would know the Cheesey misfits were created by Garth Ennis one of the best writers to ever handle the character. I will agree on the fact Tampa was not the best idea. You can thank a low budget for that.

I had no problem with The Punisher movie. Jane owned the role.

Agree Im not sure about this guy. ya,he looks mean, but /shrug..I'd rather have the guy from Anacondas(james mezner???) don't remember his name exactly. He kindof looked like TJ,and had a slightly better build..
Far as one poster does Punisher need to be a steriod beefed up nut,not really but hes gotta have some type of build(its all about the image)..

It may very well could be, for all I know. But he is visually more intimidating than Jane.

sorry can't say I agree that a dopey, soft looking British guy is more intimidating than Thomas Jane, who was in damn good shape for the '04 film
