Darhk is as good as anything this show or the current DCTV universe has ever produced. He is up there with Slade and Reverse-Flash as the best villains in this universe, so they are clearly capable of doing good things when magic is involved. But, when things like magic come into play, it seems that people tend to get lazy and rely on special effects rather than good or creative writing. It happens on other shows and in movies too. If they use less special effects, hopefully they will have to get more creative and put more effort in, so I hope that they do go back to how it was in season 1. I still consider season 1 to be the best season of this show.

20 bucks says that Felicity and her drama will ruin whatever potential the next big crossover event has given on how her b.s. drama is what placed a damper on last year's one. She pretty much neutered both Oliver and Barry, so one should expect the same to happen to every other male character.

We have a secret weapon this year.

I bet the crossover involves a scene where only Felicity can save the heroes.

If Donna isn't the main focus of the crossover, then I am not interested.

nope he's on the level below those guys. Those are top shelf bad guys there.

Is it true that the ratings for this week were at an all time low?

So is Darhk, he has been fantastic and superbly acted. He has been the best thing about this season by far (not like that is hard or anything but he would have been one of the main strong points in any season). His dark sense of humour makes all of his scenes worth watching. Even when he is joking, you still take him seriously and know that he means business and he dominates every scene that he is in like Slade and RF did. He is also more powerful and a bigger threat than Slade or RF were, and his plans are bigger. He is much more ambitious and operates on a larger scale than them. He wanted to change the world and mould it in the way that he saw fit. His main plan was not just revenge like Slade's was. Like Slade and RF, he does care for other people. He genuinely loves his wife and daughter which adds to the character and makes them more interesting.

It is a shame that he has been wasted in what is the worst season of the show.

I seen that too. Bravo Guggenheim. I would say that it is down to last weeks episode being a middling one, and this weeks one having some long, boring Felicity/Donna stuff. The stuff other than the Felicity/Donna stuff was pretty good, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Felicity/Donna stuff made people change channel and give up. It was pretty bad.

I'm listening to the Quiver podcast and they mentioned the ratings were the worst ever, and talked about how the only reason why they bring it up is because a while ago, Amell had said he has no idea why fans are complaining since the ratings have been higher than ever.

Hopefully the drop in ratings worry them and they learn from them. Hopefully the they learn the right lessons too, as it would be pretty bad if they get the wrong message from this and think that there is not enough Felicity and Donna and people want more. They need to find the right balance and focus on more characters and remove Felicity and her family from the spotlight. Oliver, his journey and growth as a character has to become the main focus like it used to be and by that I do not mean just his relationship with Felicity.

The action and fight scenes need to improve. They still have some good ones like in the last episode there was one with Oliver and Diggle firing back at Ghosts that were chasing them. There were some good ones involving Darhk too. Overall, they used to be much better though. They are still capable of having great villains as Darhk has been a fantastic one and it shows that Slade was not just a one-off.

It would be nice if they showed more stuff too. In the last episode there was a family in Darhk's Hive that were willingly there because they felt that the city was so bad and that Darhk's Hive was an improvement which was very silly. They did not show us the city getting worse as much as they should have done this season which just makes the family look deluded and ridiculous. They are still capable of putting out good episodes when they want to like Dark Waters, Sins of the Fathers, Taken, 11.59 and Genesis, and it is sad that they do not do that more when they are clearly capable of doing so.

Just a matter of time before the off season apology to the fans.

"I'm sorry guys, for real this time, Arrow will be better than ever in Season 5!!.... Please come back..." - Stephen Amell

Yep. First time hitting under 2mill. I know it most likely has nothing to do with a certain death but in my mind it does.

I am sure that her death has played a part. For a lot of people, I would say that her death was representative of the show moving further from the comics and more towards a relationship drama show starring the likes of Felicity and Donna, and as a result, a lot of people are giving up.

Even though I was a big fan of Laurel, the show could still be great without her. No single character is that important that it could never be the same again without them apart from Oliver. If they started putting out good-great episodes focusing on the good, important stuff like they are capable of, then the ratings would go back up and most people would move on from that death. But they haven't, as the episodes have been middling and poor, with one good episode in Genesis.

They are still focusing too much on Felicity and Donna in an episode that is supposed to be focusing on Genesis and the end of the world. It is pretty ridiculous.

One can only hope.

They've already been doing that apparently.

Wasn't there a recent article from Amell saying the show needed to focus less on magic, which is part of the reasons why Supernatural was moved, yet again. Not to mention, they're promising Daredevil/Punisher for next season's theme. They're desperately trying to keep people interested enough to keep watching, or start watching again.

They promised the same crap for this season. That it would be much lighter and less drama, and look what happened. It ended up being MUCH worse. As long as Guggenheim and Miracle are showrunners, I don't see this show ever getting better.

Considering how many of us have taken Laurel's death as being in a way the last straw and either stopped on that episode or are only sticking around until the end of this season, I wouldn't be surprised if it played a part, however small, the overall decline in quality and increasing emphasis on Felicity's family certainly hasn't helped either, they're alienating fans that aren't shippers, and if this last episode's ratings are any indication, it's starting to show.

The important thing to note is that episodes are written and filmed weeks/months ahead of time, so it is hard to get a read on things ahead of time.

With that said, to think that killing off Laurel was a good idea to begin with is just silly.

Wait .. I just heard Mama Smoak is going to be a series regular next season .... seriously?

I haven't heard anything about her being a regular.
It was said on the podcast that she and Echo Kellum were promoted, but I haven't found an article to confirm this.

If they do, it's going to be a huge mistake.

Even EBR said it was a mistake.

Given that she spent most of her time on the show as a lot of online fans least favourite and most useless, unconvincing character, they might have thought that she was the teams most disposable member. The death really should have been Quentin, but if I am being honest, they could have gotten away with not killing anyone this season. Every season someone has died, they could have gone one season without a death.
