The Amazing Spider-Man ASM: Stuff You Didn't Like Thread

I didn't like the football bending the goal post. Not because of the physics of whether or not that could happen but it was just out of place and took me out of an otherwise good scene between Pete and Gwen. I just don't think that little added bit was necessary.

I thought it was a good humorous moment, especially since the football players are wondering how it happened.

The football players all saw Parker catch the ball. They weren't wondering how it happened, they were wondering how Peter did it. A ridiculous moment, so very cheesy.

Really? It sounded more like they were wondering where it came from to me. :/

I didn't like the fact that Cap Stacy made Peter promise not to see Gwen, because I think it would've made Peter more responsible if he just stopped seeing Gwen of his own reasons, not some promise.

Yeah, I can see that argument. However, Capt Stacy is a cop and knows the dangers of 'putting away' criminals. You lock a guy up and he may get a revenge motive to go after you. And what's the best way to hurt someone? Go after those they care about, especially with a guy like Spider-man since he's not so easy to get a hold of and inflict pain/damage. Plus, Stacy is like any other father and is worried about his daughter. It makes sense to me that he would ask Pete to stay away from her. So basically he's saying, if you're gonna be this Spider-man guy, you need to take care of Gwen and not put her in harms way.

The audience members are still wondering how it happened...lol

:cwink:

That doesn't even make sense.

I really liked Stacy's line though about "keeping her out of this." Foreshadowing at it's finest. Gave a real sense of foreboding.

Now that the movies been out a few weeks I can start looking back and thinking that this new Spider-Man was trying too hard to be dark and realistic like Batman Begins and in that lies the problem that I think many non-comic and fans just don't like.

Yeah we know that Peter feels guilty about Uncle Ben's death but Peter isn't like Bruce Wayne in that he's constantly brooding, in the comics Peter has learned and accepted with that guilt that I don't think the sequel should be so heavy handed on the drama.

I feel the sequel will be ever more so, seeings as how Ben's killer was deliberately left unresolved for the next film.

The movie was really that dark. The problem this film had was that it was trying to be realistic, yet you have a giant lizard running around. That's where the film sort of falls apart.

Really? I never felt like TASM was truly dark..

I don't get the ASM and BB comparisions at all. They feel like two completely different films.

Its not so much that they are similar movies, but both were in depth origin films that were used to setup a franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man to me is like the Batman Begins of this trilogy.

Yeah I can definitely get behind that comparision. What I mean is when people say this films tries to be like Batman. I didn't get that feeling at all when watching the film.

Yeah, I don't know why people are saying this movie is trying to be like the Dark Knight or anything. Its more grounded, but you can't make a Spider-Man film that is nothing more than heightened reality. It has to go beyond that.

The coach asks Peter if he wants to join the football team, to which he replies "too dangerous!". That scene was cut, but originally people were supposed to react to Peter doing that. I suppose that since it was cut, it doesn't matter...

They should have just let Peter and Gwen kiss instead of him catching the football and throwing it.

Well, I assumed that part was cut because letting people know that Peter could bend a goalpost with a football was too much like punching a guy 20 feet.

I felt TASM tried too hard to be different for the sake of being different.

That doesn't even make sense.

An intelligent movie viewer would wonder how a football made of pigskin and air could possibly bend a metal post regardless of how hard it was thrown... the scene was dumb and served no purpose... this is just yet again another example of how awful this movie turned out to be... in regards to all the non Spidey fighting scenes...

Disagree all you want... It's my opinion and that's how I feel...

Which is sad... considering that Spider-Man is my favourite super hero of all time...

:csad:

Err.. aren't goal posts hollow? Not to mention, don't they sway in the wind?

Are you seriously trying to justify it? Seriously?

On a side note, the BB comparisons aren't because the movie is the start of an origin, it is because they tried so damn hard to make the movie dark and gritty, a trend which is becoming more and more prevailant in comic book movies.

It works for characters like Batman because darkness is in their nature. With SpiderMan, it just feels off.

I am Just One More and I endorse this opinion.
