Assassin´s Creed III - Part 2

It was never going to happen. The fact that their DLC is an alternative canon shows they didn't even know what else to do with Connor.

That didn't stop everyone from collectively going, "Ooh Connor, Ooh French Revolution".

There's no way they're doing French Rev DLC.

I assume they won't be going with Desmond anymore so the number of locations and time periods is near infinite. Think of what a game set in feudal Japan would be like.

lol you really don't get that the head "game director" said no to japan do you?

I want French Revolution more than any other setting. The sheer chaos of the reign of terror would be a perfect backdrop for a AC game.

The amount of production time and money it would cost to make a new map and environment, not to mention all that goes with that, just for DLC would be no were near financially feasible.

Actually, maps are easy. It's the engine that's hard to build and expensive to produce. Which is what makes doing a French Revolution even more feasible, since the existing game carries the physics and game engine, you just supply new parameters.

Think about it. How many games allow you to create your own maps? How many user-submitted maps exist in the servers for games like Left4Dead and CoD (and its many variants)? (PC, of course.)

I'm no game programmer, but I am a software engineer and have read about game development, so I can speak on this a bit.

AC3's maps are nowhere as simple as a user created map in a game. The developers actually do their research which includes going to those places and trying to be accurate to the setting and time period, including inserting recoginzable landmarks and buildings. That takes time and not merely an "easy" task

How will the next game work, considering the end with Desmond?

Probably with a new protagonist. But I'm sure Desmond will be back. His mind is probably trapped somewhere, just like how Junon was trapped before he freed her.

It'll be interesting to see. Assassins Creed 3 was a great game but still a bit too buggy for my liking, like with the others. I would like to see the new developper take their time with the next game.

I think part of his mind is stuck in the Animus Cloud. Like 16`s was. Why else did he bear hug Desmond at the end of Revelations? Clay must have done something to him.

I was wondering the same as well. Regardless of where his mind may be, I'm quite sure he's not totally dead. I may be wrong, but I can feel it (or maybe that's just what I want to believe, because I like Desmond).

Trust me. It's still a LOT easier than creating the underlying engine. As a matter of fact, someone with pictures/illustrations of early France, access to Ubi's SDK (software development kit), and a lot of patience can probably do a good approximation of the city.

As long as the engine has established the proper "materials" for the world, such as "this is dirt and this is how it behaves when these things occur" or "this is tree branch variance A and this is how it acts when a rope is thrown across it" etc., etc.

As long as all of the above is established, everything is else is window-dressing on top of it.

You can change the textures of "bricks" to better match what they would look like in France, while the frame underneath it is the standard framing they use for buildings in the game, which establishes what walls the playable character can run up on, what handholds he can hang onto, etc. etc.

As big as Connor's world was, you can easily enumerate and recognize the number of items he was allowed to hang onto or climb onto.

I mean, even the Arc de Triomphe is based on Roman architecture, which Ubi has tackled quite well already.

You're totally right. I'm sure the DLC with a whole new city will be out in a few months....

Take it with a grain of salt, but IGN is reporting on a couple of unconfirmed rumors that sprang up independently of one another, so there *might* be a grain of truth to it. The story goes that there's an "AC: Black Flags" on the way in Holiday 2013, which focuses on/expands upon naval combat and basically becomes a pirate adventure. Where the two rumors disagree is on whether or not it's AC3 DLC or a full-fledged AC4 game. Since the rumors focus on Connor still being at the helm, and since today's Ubisoft report confirms AC4 for 2014 (and a brand new hero), it sounds like this is a big DLC expansion for AC3 instead.

I would buy a pirate ac3 game immediately

Me too. That would be the shizzle.

Maybe Clay's soul was also living in Desmond's body and he's the one who sacrificed himself? Who knows.
