Assassin's Creed

Looks great. And I'm fine with them telling their own story. It gives them more creative freedom and it's part of the same universe that the games are set in, so it makes sense.

I've never played Assassin's Creed, but I have seen gameplay for it. Sets up for amazing action scenes.

Loving the first image, and with Fassbender attached at least we know the title character will be well played. Hopefully the writers have crafted a nice story and the director makes something worth watching.

I also dont mind that its not following Desmond and his ancestors, as this takes place in a very large universe of characters, they've already said it still fits in the universe that the games exist in. I wouldn't mind this becoming a frachise that has multipe lead actors and diving into multiple storylines storylines like a shared universe. I'd love to see a Black assassin or asian assassins somewhere down the line as the game franchise is VERY European heavy.

It gives them the freedom to try things within the universe without risking “breaking” established characters/plot points. Plus, with a new character and setting, fans of the game will go in seeing something fresh. I’m fine with it, and the wording in the yahoo news article make it seem like instead of this being a typical game adaptation, it’s a legitimate (canon) extension of the franchise. I totally get what you’re feeling, but I think this works and even makes sense for the AC franchise, since the last few games have been about Abstergo “expanding” into games and films.

Great post, I agree with all of this.

I'm playing through Revelations right now. I'd forgotten how much I liked this series. I'm ready to move on from Ezio though.

I think revelations and that little animated short was the perfect send off for Ezio. The game had its flaws, but i liked being able to say goodbye to ezio there.

So, wait, this is something that's actually happening? I thought this would be in Development Hell for the next.... forever. :o

Not only is it happening, it start's shooting next week.

Please dont let this suck but the movie is going up against 20 years of bad video game movie vudu.

I'd like this movie to the Deadpool of vgms, in the aspect if being greenlit and being able to put together a great project that is able to pay excellent fan service and draw in a new crowd. Hopefully deapool ends up being a cult classic, and hopefully this ends up being a triumph in teb world of vgm's.

I haven't seen any of his films so hopefully the script is also up to standard.

I was hoping they'd use Desmond and Altair or Ezo to be like the first couple of games but each new game keeps introducing new characters now so eh whatever. I never cared about Desmond and the present stuff anyway.

Well this way it won't step over what's been done in the games. They have a blank slate.

People won't cry foul if they have Desmond's mom instead of his father or something like that

I thought people would be a little more receptive of this fitting within the fabric of the games universe.

I don't know, I don't have an issue with changing a small detail or another with a previously established character. I feel like saying "OHHH we didn't want to touch this guy because our new story will fit alongside the other characters in the game universe" is a cop out. It's making an excuse for not being able to really adapt something and instead just using some of the imagery and concept to do your own thing. It may ultimately be the right approach, but I still think a lot of these games have stories that could really be adapted into movie format if someone actually tried.

Either way is good and it fits with this game franchise

I agree there, but I'm also fine with them expanding it with new stories and characters.

Ezios story spans 30+ hours of gameplay and most of his life. Im glad they arent trying to cram it into 2-6 hours of film. Let Ezio stay in the games where he and his story belong. A story from scratch will work better than a poorly adapted story.

So, this will be like a hybrid Total Recall or Running Man? Fassy and Marion. I'm there.

I can understand people being annoyed at them not using established characters with most video game adaptations, but not so much with Assassin's Creed, where we rotate leads with every game anyway. This franchise is not any specific character's story, so why shouldn't the movie do the same thing as the games and tell its own story within that world?

Anyway, I love the picture. Hope this breaks the mold of bad video game movies. The team behind it is certainly promising.

Quoting for new page. Sexy!

Films based on video games generally suck, Fassbender appears in films that generally dont suck.

Something has to give with this one.
