Assassin's Creed

Disney has pretty much claimed December for Star Wars and every other month for Marvel.:hehe:

The movie calendar is convoluted anyway. There's always a big blockbuster or franchise opening near to you. So it doesn't really matter anyway where they place it. And I'm happy the Assassin's Creed people and the distributor haven't budget so far from their initial release date.

Michael Fassbender on Assassins Creed.

Aiming to break the curse of the video-game adaptation, Assassin’s Creed seems to have all the ingredients in place. A gifted young director (Justin Kurzel), talented supporting cast (Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson) and DP (Adam Arkapaw) and a cinematic premise involving swordplay, adventure and a bit of devilry are all reasons for optimism, as is Michael Fassbender’s presence in the two lead roles as 15th-century swashbuckler Aguilar and his genetically-linked, modern-day ancestor, Callum Lynch. And here’s another one: Fassbender is citing a certain genre-redefining sci-fi as a major inspiration.

“I’ve always thought about The Matrix when we’ve approached this,” he tells Empire. “This idea of DNA memory elevates it from a basic fantasy genre [piece], because you have something an audience can actually believe in. Then the journey becomes so much more elevated, because you’re on board in a different way.”

Fassbender is also promising in-camera stunts so spectacular they’ll have even your retinas rubbing their eyes. “Old-school” is the word he’s using.
“There’s very little green screen in this, which is highly unusual in these films,” he stresses. “We have stunt guys jumping across buildings in (Maltese capital) Valletta. We’ve got (stunt man) Damian Walters doing a 120-foot leap of faith, without any rope, into a bag, so it’s pretty incredible to see.”
Taking as its basis the Ubisoft game, Assassin’s Creed will see Fassbender’s Lynch discovering that he’s descended from a secretive society of assassins and is coerced into experiencing the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar in 15th century Spain. Thanks to technology that unlocks genetic memories, he’s able to amass knowledge and skills, which will come in handy since he has to take on the centuries-old Templar organisation in the present day.

“We’re not trying to make it too crazy violent,” elaborates its star, “although obviously there is an element of that, but what is really cool is that our action sequences are on real sets and real locations.”
Recently wrapped after a shoot that took in London, Spain and Malta, Assassin’s Creed is scheduled for a UK release on Boxing Day this year.

So PG-13, I take it. I'm glad about that. Hopefully this is successful, because there is huge franchise potential with this series.

They're making all the right moves so far.

Considering the budget they probably could have went with an R the same way Deadpool did. That being said, PG-13 will probably be fine.

Was wondering what rating they would be going for with this. Wasnt expecting an R though as the games are not ultra violent in terms of gore, just plenty of blood.

Watched Macbeth the other day finally, one things for certain this should be a good film to look at if nothing else.

They need to keep their budget low, this genre is new and highly unpredictable financially.

I say spend low profit high, and please don't make this film R rated, millions play the AC franchise.

Well, I thought it was around $100 million, but according to Ubisoft's CEO the film's budget is "not far off from $200 million."

With a budget like that an R rating might have caused some issues.
I'm not surprised by that number because honestly most big films cost between 150-250 million.

An R rating with that kind of budget is asking for trouble. The budget can be whatever it wants, I just hope that the film is good.

If they did as much on location and mostly furnished set shooting with very little green screen as Fassbender claims it would explain the budget. Full sets and on location shooting and those crazy stunts would cost a pretty penny.

Depends. Location stuff can be way cheaper than greenscreen, if they didn't have to build anything.

NY-Post lists the film as one of next year's potential Oscar contenders.

Well... least the studio has some good faith in the film, which is good to here.

Blimey sequel already in the works before the trailer for the first film even released.

Either extremely confident or extremely over optimistic. Lets hope its the first and its a good sign of what they've seen and we haven't.

The rumor is that the first trailer will be with Batman v Superman.

Like Fox had faith in Fant4stic, which had a sequel and release date announced before August 2015?

Well i heard that those bigwigs over at Fox greenlighted a sequel to FFINO before filming even began. :oldrazz:

I'm sure that Sony has a rough copy of the film during its filming and understand the quality that they have here, plus they're definitely not hiding the film with the promotional images that we've seen so far unlike Fox.

Go see Macbeth and you'll get why this movie might be giving the execs confidence for a sequel.

Anyway it's from Tracking Board who are more "miss" than "hit" anyway.
