I have seen a lot of threads here and I willingly don't post in the more silly ones. But there are some threads here that deal with real issues and if you look, I have posted in some of those. I try to keep my anger to a minimum and see value in discussing things, but not in fighting, Insulting folks and bickering solves nothing and I try to stay out of most fights. Even now, I hope I am trying to be reasonable. I am not fighting, just trying to show that post count and age shouldn't matter as much as what a person has to say.
I guess what was so perplexing to me was that fairly early on, I had been percieved in the X3 forums to be a fairly reasonable person and decently liked, mostly because I did not troll or make stupid posts or threads. I would discuss things and try to quiet arguments down. I may be a young Hyper, but I am not a young person and I think it comes through in my posts. Silly me, I thought that similar behavior would make it easy for me to be repected and at least liked out here in communities. That hasn't been the case and I have yet to find a resonable explanation for it. Sometimes it seems to me that the ruder you are, the more folks like and respect you out here and I just don't get why that should be.twylight said:Squeek, I think basically if you see a good thoughtful post in some of the forums no one looks at the join date or the post count of the induvidual. They look at the content. Here in the community though if a person sees even one stupid post they'll look for post count and join date and then form an opinion towards the person. In many cases, and because we've had so many of them the past few years, the newer the join date the more the posts, that person is pegged as a 'spammer' no matter wherelse they've posted. Most people in the community don't look at the other forums of Hype to see where the person has been posting.
Also in my opinion I'm still 'new' and for the posters from 2000-2002 I AM still new. To a certain extent that will never go away. You'll always be the 'new' kid. Believe me I know.
You just have to find the niche where it doesn't feel like it matters and then not care what anyone else says.
LOL, sorry. It typically only happes to me when folks think I'm a guy.oakzap425 said:I know you're a girl...
I didn't know you couldn't call a girl "dude"... I do it to everyone...![]()

I'd be happy if that thread consisted of hot guys, Bruce Lee and Chow Yun Fat in particular, though I am uncertain if they are Japanese or not....oakzap425 said:It's time to bust out the Japanese Hotties Threads. I'd be in it like white on cooked rice...
YOu know.. "White on Cooked Rice" and Japanese, in the same sentence, could probably be deemed racist, though that's not the way I meant it...![]()

This can go back and forth all night. Fact of the matter is, I feel it a pointless thing to make Avatars and Sigs and Custom User Titles a reward for being here for a while. The only thing that should come with being an elder on these forums should be a Mod spot, but this forum doesn't have them. (Or at least they dont have multiple mods for every section totaling to about 50+ mods like a lot of other sites do).
Just my 2 cents, and my personal views on how nearly every other message board I've ever gone to in the past 10 years has been.

Darthphere said:Well whose fault is it for you not joining? The fact that you didnt find the need to post until you joined is prime in this argument. WHy should you come here and automatically get sigs, avatars, custom titles. Because you lurked for 3 years? No, you dont. Someone joins, they post regularly, reach a certain post count, they get rewarded. Its not segregagtion, its a reward system. Since at the end of the day, we dont really need avatars or sigs.
I agree that we could use more mods. This is a large and busy forum, I am sure stuff gets by mods, not becuase they are not doing their jobs, but because this place is massive. On the other hand, the fact that we, as citizens, can report bad posts, I think brings some responsibility on us as well. If we took more time perhaps to watch what others are doing we could help out, so long as it wasn't being done beligerently or older posters picking on newer ones just because they are new.twylight said:Going back to the basics is what I would do. However it wouldn't effect the issue of spamming. If it was accepted how would spam be addressed? More Mods for one, to temper the control of spam over the board. But not simply numbers of mods, rather picking Mods from members who are on at varying intervals, thus making sure that the forum is NEVER without more than x number of mods to control it. I know the reason for Global mods was to make sure that if needed, the mods could correct something in another forum when needed. However, modding the community alone is a job in and of itself.

Carter said:This is obviously some ruse to limit our freedoms here, and to turn the hype into the modern Nazi Germany. Drak's just using this reindexing as his own Reichstag fire.
Wake up people, Drak is trying to militarize the mods and turn the hype into a police state
Drakon said:No, you're right. Ideally, I'd like to use the example I made in the first post.
Drakon said:What would more mods do? Most of you would just complain, like when Doggy was promoted. We discuss these things before stuff happens-it's not a random name out of a hat. Names are brought up, shot down, nominated and seconded, ignored, and even contacted and they shoot them down.
Drakon said:That's possible, but not really feasible. As it stands, Mirko already feels we've got enough moderators, and the staff can all overall agree.
twylight said:The Admin has made it very clear that they do not look favorably on any advice, from the posters not matter how presented, thread or otherwise, about the running of the board.
Drakon said:Granted, most of us all have simular timeframes for being on the site, but we're practically all on during peak time.
