Gameyard Posts? Yes or No?

  • I don't like the idea of a Community Gameyard at all.

.....I'll cut to the point....there are guys who have less then half, half, more then half and the guys like me that have all there posts in thows threds. I plan on maby geting it one of the RPGs buy in order to do that I need a some what good post count, if what your saying then I'll lose all my poats.:o

I still don't understand why this is only an 'IF' at this point (option 1&2). Been here since 2003, and take a look at the post count. I most definitely do not spam or ever have. I spend 1/4 of my internet day lurking, reading, and maybe making 2 pertinent posts per day -- I speak when I have something to say. For all that time here, and good behavior I still sport the same avatar that someone who's been here a month could easily top.

I'm all for making sure that posts count (it keeps elitism from kicking in from long timers), but it'd be nice if the options that won by a landslide were instituted tomorrow. :)

Biggest reason it's still an "IF" is because we're still kinda deciding on it with the moderators and, specificially Mirko. There are some issues to consider, and if this DOES go into effect, it could me more work for the staffers.

Can we have option 1 and option 2? Only option 1 wont have post count? That would rule!

Where do we vote to have the img code turned on? j/k aside. post counts don't make sense. You have people Posting sensless crap just to get their numbers up. I post with care to get readers attention and make my point. I don't do it so I can have a cute Avvy and a custom title. If you're going to put restrictions on when you can get what make it time based... Like a month at a time.

But that's just me.

That's something else I've discussed with Mirko, but to be honest, considering some of the avatars you guys like to have, and how big you guys like your sigs, I'm not even sure most of you are responsible enough for it. Also, I'd add that to the last requirement, and probably raise the posts from 2,500 to 3,000.

Also, I find it funny how many secondary names were used in the voting for these polls. :o

Quick question:

If the game threads are moved to a forum where posts don't count toward our post count, will our current post counts go down if we've posted in Games threads when they did count toward post counts?

Hope that made sense. :p

If you look 13 posts above yours, you'd find your answer.

Might I suggest another site change?

Image banners for a signature!
Co signed. We can use the img tags for posts but not for sigs. It's a bit (excuse me for saying this but...) senseless. I don't want to get into it because it's not a life or death matter but it's important to some posters.

So I will.

I can't be expected to look an entire page back though. That's unreasonable. :p

I like the banners idea, particularly since they're hosted from outside sources, but there are obviously reasons for not allowing the

Adding banners clutters up the board. You'd have to wade through all the pictures and monster sized sigs just to get to the messages which is more important. Having an avitar is enough. :)

I'm not sure about banners. While I might like one, if they are large they can interfere with following a discussion. At least avatars, however large, are out of the way. Some other messageboards that allow banners look ridiculous.

So you restrict banners to the same size as 5 or 6 lines of text. Wading through banners isn't all that different from wading through text based sigs. Banners wouldn't be allowed to be moster sized.

Yeah I agree. I've seen plenty of them on other sites. A lot that I personally, am not fond of. Though, if the Hype were to get them, I'd give it a chance first. Mainly cause we don't know how they look like yet. :)

Im not a fan of pic Banners mainly because im still in the dark ages on dial up ;)
I have never understood the whole post count game on message boards.

I would rather the avatar upgrades be awarded to date joined eventhough I know that would probably remove my avatar. I always think twice about posting too much because I dont want to look like a spammer wanting an avy.

If we have to have post counts for avatars I also agree allowing the gameyard to count posts because, as others have mentioned, spammers would spend more time spamming in threads with good discussions.

Agreed, and load time would more than double. :down

How would this affect the comic RPGs such as the Heroes vs Villians marvel RPG, as well as its DC counter part and the One Universe RPG? (I know there are others, such as the Ultimate RPG, but I don't feel like listing them all.) By name, they are a game. However...the posts can be quite interesting, and the OOC threads can create some interesting discussions. (Some of it is spam, though.) I've been suggested to different comics and characters because of the RPG, and others have grown into better RPGers. It would be a shame to move this to where post count doesn't count. It's interesting and captivating at times, and I marvel at how some of the hypsters don't wind up writing for comics book companies.

Anyway, my main question is...how would it affect the RPGs?

As for my opnion, I vote for option 1. Gameyard where post counts don't count. I've posted in those game threads a few times, but I get bored of them because of the lack of discussion. The purpose of a forum is for discussion, so posts that aren't discussion shouldn't be counted.

Images in signatures would slow the board down big time, even if they weren't hosted on the same servers as the forums. In fact, that would probably slow the board down even more due to server latency issues as the board tried to load images from all these different places on the 'net. And it looks cluttered and crappy, anyway. Besides that, many people don't have anything interesting to say in their signatures with actual words, so I highly doubt being able to post pictures would be an improvement.

Size can be limited, both filesize AND dimensions. I coulda sworn I was talking about this here on SHH. I'd say something like 300x150, no bigger than 80k [which is the size of the big avatars].

That's another point well made.

when will these changes come into effect?

*ack, I always get that one wrong, damn grammar

Effect*, hun. [sorry :(]

There's no guarantee that they WILL go into effect, per se. Like I've said several times, this is just a census, to get an idea of the general idea on this entire thing. It's an idea I shot to Mirko about two weeks ago, and he wasn't adverse to it. I told him I'd make a poll or two to get an idea on how EVERYONE feels about it [hence the sitewide announcement as opposed to just keeping it in community], before we just go changing stuff.

Even though the votes are in, it's gotta pass through "The Electoral College" of the rest of the staff [specifically Mirko] before any decisions are made.

I Would however like it if the smilies were able to be put into the signatures...you can even put a limit on them. :)

Especially now that we have those new adorable heart ones :)
