Avatar: The Legend Of Korra - Part 1

Just when you think Amon can't get any more badass, he proves you wrong.

Thirded. With THAT kind of will power, he should be a Green Lantern.

Tarrlok you mean? He would have nothing to gain from it, Tarrlok obviously has no warm feelings for his father.

I got that feeling my self. Tarrlok did indeed have good intentions...just did things the wrong way.
He knew his father was a criminal and wanted to become better than that by becoming a "hero" so the name his father tarnished could be redeemed. He blames Korra for ruining his life, but he screwed himself over the second he attacked and kidnapped Korra.

Obviously they can do whatever they want. But personally, I feel the season is too short. Everything is happening too quickly. I just don't feel like the show is getting any breathing room. I want them to spend more time exploring these character. I want more time on Korra's training. I want Korra to actually meet Aang and not just see flashbacks. Tarlok got defeated way too easily and his so-called plan wasn't thought out enough. Upsetting the Avatar and getting into a fight with her in the middle of a government building was beyond stupid. And now, more than ever, I feel like this show needed a Zuko-type character. Korra going through the motions is fine and all, but the show really needs a secondary storyline to spice things up a bit. As well as provide enough material to extend the season. On Last Airbender, Aang & Friends were great and all, but Zuko always added more meat to each episodes. And that's something Legend of Korra is lacking.

Then you sacrifice the character development they've been trying to do for Amon. See, the biggest flaw with TLA was its undercooked main villain Ozai. We hear so much about the Fire Lord and yes he is dastardly but we don't really get the feeling of overwhelming fear and he's not a villain you could root for. So yeah, they sacrificed the journey of a confused scarred teen to build up the wicked intentions of a main antagonist. I can live with that.

Yes, I felt Tarrlok's fall from grace was rather premature but that can be chalked up to the relatively short season they have. Remember, the writing for this show was done by the creators themselves whilst TLA did have quite a number of writers to sort of fill in the gaps like Elizabeth Welch Ehasz, Aaron Ehasz, Giancarlo Volpe...etc etc. If the season could be much longer and if these writers had a chance to take a crack at the series, it would have been much cooler.

Then again, there might be budgeting and creative control issues behind the scenes. So us complaining that the series is too short is kind of pointless. We should be thankful we got a series to talk about in the first place.

That said....This episode might the first I wasn't very impressed with and that is shocking because I know a lot of people wanted to see Aang. Maybe because [BLACKOUT]Tarrlok got undone by his manservant really bugged me[/BLACKOUT]. But yeah, they wanted to set up a clear cut final battle between Amon and Korra with no distractions.

Also, Metalbending an open zipper is kind of dangerous.

so in the preview for the season finale, did it look like Amon was adopting a "bending" position with his hands (looked like he was controlling something with his hands)?

Finale? There are 3 episodes left.

Hour long season finale right? That makes it two episodes. Maybe 3 since an ep is about 22 mins each.

Not sure. Maybe we've miscalculated the episode count.

I just looked up the promo; I hadn't previously seen it. I expect 1 episode next week and then a double for the finale as you say.

In the penultimate episode (Skeletons in the closet) during the finale we'll be seeing a character related directly to Zuko.

Interesting.

Is it just me or was Yakone pretty badass? He got closer to killing Aang (brutally if I may add) than any of Aang's previous enemies.

Technically, wasn't Azula successful in killing Aang in the Season 2 finale?

I wonder what is happening next week. I know the Equalists are beginning their full-scale attack, but I hope there will be a little time spent nursing Korra back to health. It will give us a chance for Team Avatar to get closer, since the team only lasted like 10 minutes last episode.

I also hope Asami doesn't get screwed over by Mako and Korra geting closer. I couldn't care less about shipping at this point. The stakes are too high, what with Amon's seemingly inhuman status, to care about "romance." As long as it's written well and The Krew is one big happy family by the end, I don't care who ends up with who.

The previews give a glimpse of what seems to be a Pearl Harbor/Blitzkrieg style assault by the Equalists. I mean...Wow. These guys aren't fooling around.

This was such a great episode.

Yakone actually levitated people with his bloodbending that was cool. Aang was a total badass when he defeated Yakone, but Anon was way cooler when he just walked through Tarrlok's bloodbending like it was nothing.

I really dig that earthbending attack Korra uses when she punches the ground and upheaves it at her attackers. Earthbenders need to do that more often.

Anon might be related to the people who bent energy before the time of the element benders.

This show pushes the boundaries a lot in its content, the way Aang was contorting was pretty creepy when Yakone wanted to end him.

So is episode 10 only going to be a lead in to the season finale, or will it have its own significance?

Also, it's eerie that Korra and Amon have come into contact with one another so often yet have never actually had any dialogue between each other.

Its described as when the Equalists begin attacking the city. So at least part of it will lead into the 2 part finale.

the thing which is going to hurt is that I am really going to feel hollow between seasons.

Also, did you guys notice how Amon and Korra stared at one another? I think Amon was both surprised and unsure of how to react especially since Korra was in her elements (the snow falling, the earth under her feet, enough oxygen for fire) but won the psychological war after his first encounter with Korra (in which he punked her pretty bad).

I think if Korra stood her ground right there, she might have been able to take him but I think Amon pretty much screwed up her fight or flight senses. She usually faces everything and everyone head on but she completely freaks at the sight of Amon.

After what Sokka said at Yakone's trial I am starting to suspect that Amon is a Bender. A 'unique' Bender whose ability is the old and lost art of Energy-bending.

Korra fans on Tumblr are so crazy, but they do make me feel better about my own unhealthy obsession with this show.

I love the ambiguity of Korra's reaction to Amon. Is she still deathly afraid of him, or does she just realize she is weakened and facing a dangerous opponent? The shot immediately before she launches the ice spikes is very telling.

AmoRra(?) shippers or some such...?

Also I was a little bummed when Bolin mentioned he got over Mako and Korra's little dalliance. I was hoping Bo might be able to break the luckless funny guy in love image.

WE LOVE YOU BOLIN!!!!

Bolin is great but they aren't letting him do anything. He's not getting the chance to grow like everyone else has. If the rumors of one of the brothers dying or whatever comes true and it's Bolin, then I think it's safe to say he is the unluckiest character in the Avatar universe.

Great effin' episode. Though Amon has pretty much cemented his badassery after this episode.

How funny was Beifong zipping up Bolin's fly.. Had me laughing my ass off.

I thought about that too. Hopefully, we get satisfactory answers by the end of the season.

As for Korra and Amon stare-down. I think she is definitely freaked out by him still, but I don't know if it is still the paralyzing fear we saw a few episodes back. I chalk it up to an exhausting ordeal and she just wanted to get the hell out of dodge.

This show is all kinds of awesome.

He is definitely a victim of the fact that there are only 12 episodes this season. Even with a different villain next season, hopefully they keep the bending brothers around.

Beifong being sexually frustrated...that just sounds hysterical.
