I liked the finale, some nice moments all around, a fitting end for this series. And yes, I still want another one, but that's for another time.
Let me put my two cents in on this Korrasami ending.
To me? And only me, this is my opinion. It didn't mean anything. Yes, they held hands, so what? Yes, they looked happily at one another as they entered the Spirit World, again, so what? What's wrong with entering a new world (for Asami anyway) with your best friend right next to you and smiling at them? What's wrong with them holding hands to make sure they're together when they reach the other side? For me? If it was role reversed and it was two guys with their arms around each others shoulders as they entered the portal, would've been no different.
I read an earlier comment that people on "my side" of the fence are in denial. I really don't see it that way. This isn't about denial, or "not wanting" this to happen. I just see it differently. As many have now noted, this has not been a long-term friendship. At best it was started in Book Three, Korra even admitted that she had never had a female friend before, Asami was it, and even then they weren't best of friends yet. That developed as time went on.
Many have noted the blush scene, you're telling me girls don't blush when their female friends praise their looks? Really? I've seen it, plenty of times. Try any dance that they dress up for, or occasion where they are dressed nicely and are told they look radiant by one of their friends. It happens.
To me, again, my opinion, Korra and Asami are the perfect example of the best of friends. It's kind of like a parallel to Mako and Bolin's brotherhood. Korra and Asami are the best kind of friend you can have that's your same gender.
Which brings up my final point. Mako. In this book, both Korra and Asami subtlely showed they still have feelings for Mako, and he for them. This happened right before the Korrasami scene with Mako telling Korra "he'll always have her back", that wasn't a simple friend line. And you could tell Korra felt the same way.
As a friend of mine noted, this ending is open for interpretation. Forget the "this is a kids show" thing, or "Nick wouldn't allow this" throw that out the window and make your own opinion. None can be right or wrong, because they didn't show them kissing, or even leaning forward to do so. They just stood and looked happily at each other. Whatever you believe, believe it, that's our right as fans.
Thanks for reading my monologue, I apologize for it's length. Should anyone have any interest, here is my review of the last two episodes.
