Infinity War Avengers: Infinity War NON-SPOILER User Review Thread

I just saw IW and jeez...Marvel/Disney did it. They actually did it. They just made the BEST Comic Book movie ever. Period. I can't believe what in just watched. Darth Vader and Ledger's Joker just got dethroned easily by Thanos.

I wouldn't say he dethroned Vader, but Joker - yeah.

Thanos is the 2nd best film villain ever after Vader for me!

Precisely. I dont get the point of SPOILER Thread and SPOILER-REVIEW Thread. I mean there's virtually no difference.

Here's an example of something that would be appropriate for a non-spoiler thread: Infinity War was a blast. Although Thanos was essentially a CG character, there was such nuance to his performance that I found him utterly convincing.

This isn't a spoiler because you're basically just sharing your opinion without going into detail about something Thanos actually does in the film (e.g., throwing a moon).

Now, if you were to say, "Brolin brought such nuance to his take on Thanos, particularly in the scene where he proposes to Martha Kent (I'm just making something up, as I've yet to see the film)", that would be considered spoilerish--and thus necessitate being posted exclusively in a spoiler thread--on account of the fact that you've described an interaction between two characters in explicit detail.

I want to go ahead and safely crown this the reining champ of superhero movies. I'm seeing it again on Saturday.... but I'm fairly certain it's at the top of the heap.

It was an excellent decision.

It really was. This truly felt like the Ultimate MCU movie. Everyone we know and love, being everything that we love about them.

Just got back from seeing it. My first impressions:

1. Thor is the highlight of the film for me. A real strong showing from Chris Hemsworth.

2. Most of the cast were consistently good, but in particular, the best portrayals of Dr. Strange and Gamora were in this film.

3. Thanos was definitely a strong villain. IMO, the third best Marvel villain after Killmonger and Loki.

4. Cap didn't do much of note in this. Neither did Black Panther, to be honest. In general, the whole Wakanda subplot was kind of a letdown.

5. Hawkeye got even worse treatment than in Avengers 1.

6. Anything involving Thor, Iron Man, and the Guardians was generally my favorite parts of the film.

Overall, it was a very entertaining film. But for me, it'd be a stretch to say that this was a Top 5 MCU flick.

Just got back. I liked it. It's definitely better, and crazier, MUCH crazier, than 'Age of Ultron'. Heck, it's crazier than any Marvel film has ever come close to being. It is a must watch on the big screen. It definitely sticks the ending, even if... REDACTED.

Did I mention this movie is freakin' NUTS? Because it's nuts. You just have to see it for yourself.

Things that worked:

*Doctor freakin' Strange is now one of my favorite MCU characters, thanks solely to this movie.

*Tom Holland is still great.

*Thanos. And that's a big one. He definitely feels like a character, not a video-game boss.

*The Guardians' dynamic is still amazing, funny, and much less forced than it felt in 'GotG 2'.

*Nebula. Loved where this movie positions her and how it used her in the story.

*Scarlet Witch really registered here in a way that she hasn't before. She was great.

*Seriously, this is most comic-booky movie that ever comic booked. It is just completely, balls-to-the-walls crazy in a way that it is insane they even attempted it, much less pulled it off. You cannot unsee it. There are so many moments where my eyes were bulging out of my head.

*They do a good job of balancing Ragnarok Thor with serious, vengeful, GOD-Thor. He didn't feel like an afterthought like the other Avengers movies.

*The ending. It puts you through the wringer.

-----------------------------

Things that didn't work:

*I did not get enough Cap. But it is amazing that I enjoyed this movie as much as I did, because that's a huge negative for me, since he's easily my favorite Avenger.

*Too many CGI characters. Proxima Midnight was a low point. She really should have been makeup.

*There's a lot of total awesomeness, so much that you can't possibly take it all in on one viewing. But there isn't really a single action scene that beats the clarity and pure glee of the Leipzig airport scene. The 'siege' part of the Wakanda siege was somewhat disappointing to me.

You should put the ending review in spoiler dude. Everything else is fine, though.

I redacted everything I said about the ending, because I don't want to ruin anyone's experience. But I'm very sure I didn't write anything that you won't read in many of the non-spoiler reviews from critics.

I'm usually very sympathetic to spoilerphobes but if people are that sensitive to even VAGUE DISCUSSIONS about how you feel about a movie's ending, they perhaps should not visit threads where they're going to read the opinions of people who have seen the movie before them. There's no way I would have visited this thread, non-spoiler or not, before seeing the movie.

The films greatest accomplishment is having almost non-stop action and gigantic visual effect set-pieces throughout but never getting lost in it like a lot of blockbusters do. It never feels like CGI destruction porn even though it should. The heart, story, moments and humor remain and are just as strong as the action sequences.

Quite impressive.

One thing I forgot to mention-- NOT SPOILERY AT ALL, YOU WILL NEVER GUESS IT, I'M SERIOUS--

This movie is so freakin' comic-booky in the most deliriously fun insane way, that I keep forgetting there is a major character from a past MCU movie who makes the most insane, out-of-left-field extended cameo and I keep forgetting about it because I'm still half-certain that I dreamt it. It's THAT comic-booky.

Just caught the movie.
Absolutely stunning, a movie for the ages.
I just have a small gripe on a certain action sequence but other than phenomenal movie.
The score was a little underused, but I am super glad my favorite heroes got their shining moments, not to mention even more in the next avengers movie.

10/10

Just saw it.

My thoughts:
Raising the Bar: Verb. (idiomatic) To raise standards or expectations, especially by creating something to a higher standard.

10/10 will see in the theater again.

This was the first time I was ever blown away from a movie.....period.

Agreed with all of your points. Fun flick for the most part but nothing that I found earth shattering. I really wanted to be blown away but there was a lot that just felt familiar. The parts for me were better than the sum total which I suspect has something to do with it being an incomplete product.

Still I reserve the right change my mind when I see it again. :D But I doubt that I'd change the rating by much... unless of course the sequel can provide some kind of proper closure to some of the issues that I'm tossing around in my head.

10 years later and after 18 films, we have arrived. Heroes will die.

I would argue against your statement that it's an incomplete product.

Even though it is a part of a larger story, it still felt complete and it's own thing. I believe in years' time, both IW and A4 will be seen as 2 mutually-fulfilling, yet completely separate films, each of which does their own thing.

Oh my gawd! This movie is incredibly epic! You guys are not prepared for Thanos. Trust me. Feels unlike any Mcu movie that's been put forth. BP was different in it's own way but this is moreso in craftsmanship in narration and audacious direction and subversion. The emotional swings in this movie will leave u breathless and it just does not let up. Almost feels like something Kubrick would create if he had directed an Mcu film.

This belongs in the same class as Spider-man 2 and TDK for me and needless to say, conclusively tops within the Mcu. Yes. It's that damn good! Lol.
Rating =10/10

Easily 10/10

I'm so glad I stayed spoiler free for this, and it was so worth it.

Brolin is the king of this film. This is Thanos' movie. Forget those cameo appearances this is totally on a scale beyond those. Zoe Saldana is also epic in this movie.

There's levity in this film, but be prepared to have your guts ripped out. The stakes are higher in this film than any other superhero film. It's not even close.

Still too early to score it for me but at the moment that's where my mind is at too. This is cream of the crop stuff. It's everything you could ever dream a comic book film could be.

Agree with Stark about getting your guts ripped out. We've been following these characters for 10 years and now this... man... Haven't felt this way since I saw Empire Strikes Back in the theaters as a child. It's gonna be a long wait until Avengers 4.

Thanos is the best villian of MCU and one of the best villians of CBM. But I dont't really think that he's on the same class with Vader and The Joker.
