My review:
Im still kind of processing.
Overall I loved it. Im still trying to figure out where it falls in my list of favorite Marvel films. It is in the top five though. And despite the fact that Im a Cap fan first and foremost I thought that Thor, Strange, Gamora and Wanda were really the show stealers of the film.
Thanos was intimidating as hell. Understand him or hate him, his presence was felt.
Cap and Black Panther were criminally underused. But I get it, ensemble film and Cap had a lot in Ultron so it was Thors turn and I dont begrudge Thor that, he deserves it.
The film was way more brutal than I expected. Lokis death but particularly Visions (both of them) was just, wow, they really pushed the envelope of that PG-13 rating. Nebulas torture scene, too, was brutal.
Poor Wanda. She almost looked relieved when dying. Really liked the Vision/Wanda romance. Really well done. And Marvel doesnt generally do romances well so that was a nice surprise.
I was also surprised that Disney allowed the snap. Which was essentially genocide. Really pushing the envelope there as well. Its obvious though, as we already know Spider-Man and Black Panther have sequels planned, that it will get undone.
Peter Parker turning to dust killed me. That last ten minutes of the film was devastating.
Red Skull. That he had to escort others into finding the soul stone but never get it himself was poetry. Brilliant.
Im disappointed that Bruce came in AFTER the video chat with Ross. I really, really want to see Bruce go off on Ross. If they kill Bruce in A4 before that happens I will be Dursleys never got their comeuppance level of pissed.
I am a bit mad at Peter Quill at the moment. It was interesting contrast to Civil War. Where Stark went mad and tried to kill Bucky. Maybe hell understand Steve better now that hes had to be the calm one dealing with hotheads.
TChalla has now also referred to Bucky as White Wolf, so that confirms that plot direction. Pretty much seals it.
Rhodey calling for Sam after the snap killed me. As did Steve watching Bucky turn to dust. And Okoyes face when TChalla turned to dust. Just that last ten minutes, man. So heartbreaking.
Loved the warrior sisters bonding over battle scene with Widow, Okoye and Wanda.
Overall a great film. Haunting. I'm still pondering over everything, still somber, over 12 hours after having watched it, and that, I think, is a sign of excellent film-making.
