It's actually a Samuari Armor inspired by Darth Vader made by a Japanese company.
 
Jack Sparrow in DMC was poor, only a shade of what he was in POTC1, even though he was a rip off of long john silver in muppets treasure island

Honestly before calling something iconic, why don't you wait a few years. If kids are still dressing up as Jack Sparrow 10 years after the movies, then maybe you can argue that point.

So if GENERAL BUZZ is SM2 was MILES better than SM1.

And POTC2 is MILES below POTC1.... check various poll sites- you'll see.

That means SM3 will be up and POTC2 will be worse than POTC3? OMG, that's going to really suck! Lol.

Just because the money went up doesn't mean the opinion of the film in regards to the first went up as well... as I said, Matrix is a PRIME example- people loved the first film, LOTS more saw the second and were turned off because it didn't compare well to the first. Whereas SM3 has the STRENGTHS of people LOVING SM2 ALOT more than SM1.

But, of course a blind Pirates fan will just say, "what you talking about? EVERYONE loved Pirates!" Lol. Obviously not the case, if it was- I'm pretty sure POTC2 rating wise (USER ratings) would have been higher than POTC1 as well.... but, thus- it is not the case.

Sorry POTC fanboy, but if up is up and down is down- audience is really going to hate POTC3. Damn it...

naw it just means less people are interested in it 2 years after the 1st ones release...even w/ ticket inflation...ur precious SM2 still made less!...:oldrazz:

As for Spidey 3 dropping. I don't know. I think it stands a good chance to make at least as much as the second. The second was a better movie than the first, and people know that. The third looks even better and has more villains (unfortunately a good thing for general audiences) and Venom is a big-deal (albeit GG and Doc Ock always had me more excited). So that prospect will play a major role for this film.

And to go back to my original point it is all about timing. Spidey 3 has no competition before it and no competition after it for two weeks. Just like Spider-Man 1 (2 came out on July fourth weekend and had more competition, should be pointed out). Pirates 3 is coming out after the first big summer movie, but by four weeks so it will be relatively meaningless. However, it is sandwiched between Shrek the Third which has the exact same core audience as Pirates 3 (children and teens) and the next week Ocean's 13 comes out. That is aimed at teens, and both will take a sizeable chunk of b/o. The week after that is FF2, Die Hard and whatever else.

Stiff competition. And again I expect the hype for Pirates 3 to be less than 2 as the sequel need was already satisfied last year for Pirates, and while the desire to see a third is there, I think most would agree the second did not live up to the first. That decreases hype for the third, which has not even had marketing yet (a major reason for this I think is because Verbenski is rushing to finish it as the whole movie was incredibly rushed through production, without a full script, and now post).

Again, we'll see though.

Okay your argument about timing=Sure Spidey has nothing before it really, but I don't think it is gunna matter, cause everyone is going to see Spidey/Sherk 3/and AWE there first weekend anyways...I garuntee each one goes over 100 mill there first weekend. Imo what follows is more important, and Spidey has tougher competition in the weeks that follow (Sherk, AWE) Than Pirates does (FF2, Die Hard)

I actually mega disagree with the notion of Spidey 2 being better than Spidey 1, I think they feel into the pothole of Doc Ock not really having anything to do with the thematic story, and just being a villain of the week bit did it in for me, as opposed to Green Goblin being the father of Peters roomate etc, and the best part about Spidey 2 imo is Harry, and we still have one more movie before his story plays out

-The Matrix argument is void as far as i'm concerend, they do share alot of similarities except for the fact that AWE made like 50 million more its opening weekend, and ended up making about 500 million more, and had like 4 times as long of legs as Matrix had, meaning more people kept re-going to the movie, as opposed to the Reloaded which they thought was less then stellar


And let's say what u think the general opinion on Pirates 2 is correct, here is your quote "I liked it, but it wasn't as good as the first or how people made it out to be," It's not the most postive feeback ever, but the key word is at the beginning where they say the liked it...They Loved the first, liked the second, they will go see the third
 
LS but you have to acknowledge the fact in terms of your opinion of Spiderman 2 that you are in the minority. Critically and fan wise, people rank it higher than the original.
 
I think SM is superior to it's sequel, due to the terrible dialogue
 
Which movie will be better? Spider-Man 3

Which will make more money at the BO? Pirates 3

Spidey is my boy, but Pirates 2 was a monster and I see it getting similar numbers. The only thing Spidey 3 has in its corner is the 3 year anticipation as opposed to Jack's less than a year.

BTW, Spider-Man 2 was a better movie than Spider-Man (though I love both movies) imo for many reasons, but this is a BO thread and I'll leave it at that.
 
At least there are some voices of reason in here- unlike the completely bias Piratefanboy clouding these boards... whose ignorance is clearly shown in his posts, dude- just a piece of advice "because I said so" is a joke in court and it's a joke here... lol.

Anyone who says that SM franchise is failing is completely in utter denial and has no notion of reality. SM is one of the strongest franchises out there. Along with the Shrek franchise as we saw in 2004.

POTC is a strong franchise as well. So don't anyone act like I'm saying that's not the case-

This summer EVERY film has it's weaknesses to overcome:

SM2 made less than SM1 but was beloved by fans and critics, rising the user rating dramatically on sites between the two.

POTC2 made more than POTC1, but is generally regarded that POTC1 is by far the better of the two.

Shrek is a champ. But, is there a thing as "too much" Shrek?

This summer, in opposed to last summer, is packed with films that are guaranteed successes on one level or another... thus, sorry to dissapoint you naive Pirate- POTC3 won't be a "black hole" (guys, there are POTC fans that ridiculously think that- take a look over at their IMDB board- the sad thing is, I'm serious-)...

I honestly don't see how POTC3 could make as much money this summer as POTC2 because- 1) some fans of the first film (myself included) were seriously turned off by how commercial and kid-friendly they made it. 2) Last summer was void of any major big blockbuster films, this summer is so jam packed with them that they'll all hurt each other. It's the completely opposite end of the spectrum... too little vs. too much. In EVERY category, including action, comedy, and animation (two biggies: Shrek & Simpsons)...

Please note that I was one of the first ones to discover POTC and get everyone I know interested in it- that's when it was a "little movie based on a disney ride." So, I was a fan of the first before it even came out- the novelization- so I'm one of the "long-standing" fans of the franchise that litterally felt sick at how much they lightened the tone and atmosphere between films, and reduced Jack to being nothing more than comic relief.

Thus, they'll all open big- none will have the legs POTC2 had last summer because of how PACKED this summer is. All will open BIG. But, all will drop in their third and fourth weeks- if even by a little... there is no black hole this summer, that's impossible.

Thus the best thing to do is to see how everything plays out- they will be running NECK-TO-NECK in my opinion with one winning by a little but not by a lot.

Well imo how great of a movie Spiderman was broke the sterotype for comic book films, and allowed 2 to be the more recognized movie critically, it broke the seal to say the least, and that made it easier for 2 to be viewed as the better movie

Well, I think you have a point in a way... even though I view SM2 as being leagues better than 1. Because it if wasn't for SM, if it wasn't for X-Men... where would we be now? We ow ALOT to these films for realizing the true potential of a comic book property and starting the "renaissance" of super hero films and properties.

One more time, POTC2 MADE $1 BILLION IN WORLDWIDE, NOT DOMESTICLY!!!

And I guess most of us are talking about domestic numbers, so that's why I can say that POTC3 won't have any chance to beat Spidey 3.

Why? (again)
  1. People have beenwaiting for Spidey 3 for 3 years, while POTC3 will be released after 9 months.
  2. Just look at marketing machine of Sony, they can't stop getting audience more and more excited about Spidey 3, while Disney has hopes that their plan will repeat it's success for another Pirate sequel.
  3. Spidey 3 is the first summer blockbuster of this year.
  4. Spidey 3 has 2 free weeks without any competition.
  5. Spidey fanbase>>>>>POTC fanbase
  6. POTC3 and Shrek 3 will be eating each other, whicle Spidey 3 will continue it's run.
  7. Spidey 2 was the best reviewed sequel'04, while POTC2 failed in this part.
