The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Based on ASM2's box office and quality, was rebooting a mistake?

How do you feel about ASM2?

  • I enjoyed it and I'm satisfied with the rebooted series

  • I would've preferred Sony do SM4/SM5/SM6 with a new director and cast

  • I would've preferred Raimi do one final movie (SM4) then recast SM5

  • I would've preferred Raimi do 2 or 3 more SM movies with Tobey and Dunst

I haven't seen ASM 2. I really didn't feel like I needed to see ASM so I waited until Netflix to watch it and I thought it was good.

I just have no desire to see ASM 2 and the reviews solidified it.

You say you left ASM for a long while but then enjoyed it and are now saying you have no desire to see ASM2 and that's enforced by opinions of others.

Going by that I think you'll probably see it on Netflix and will like it and repeat the same thing for ASM3 of letting reviews decide an opinion that you are likely to change once you actually see it and decide for yourself.

I'm almost at that point with X-Men, if DOFP are getting the same reviews as ASM 2 then there's a good chance this will wait until Netflix. Of course that also has to do with the quality of the X-Men films.

DOFP is getting nothing but positive responses, however if I may ask why the readiness to abandon the franchise?

The quality hit a slump with two of the six movies and have consistently picked itself back up after that.

It is apparently up for debate because ASM2 has a lower critical score and much lower box office than SM3. Fan aside, critics and the general audience think otherwise. What we think means nothing in the long run.

Actually Critics are the only ones to think that. Box office doesn't indicate audience opinion of quality just audience, those who went to see it.

General Audience do prefer ASM2 over SM3 as it's rated higher on both RT and IMDB than SM3

Years ago I was always at the movies. Sometimes a couple times on the weekend. I even bought movies on DVD/Blu-Ray prior to even watching them. Now I don't have the time and honestly, I have other things to pay for.

I guess I'm at the point where I see a movie trailer and I can say that I'm going to see the movie or wait until Netflix or even cable. Captain America was worth going to the movies for. ASM I thought was good, however, nowhere watching it was I like wow I really needed to see this in the theater. If that clarifies things a little.

If ASM 2 got stellar reviews, I would consider going to the movies to see it. I usually let reviews sway me when I'm on the fence or thinking Netflix.

It has to do with the fact that I was really into the comics even prior to the first X-Men movie. And yes I did like X-Men 1 and 2, First Class and the Wolverine I thought was good but a distant 4. But around X-3, I kinda had my fill of "The Wolverine" movies. Especially since my favorite X-Man is Cyclops.

I understand what the Studios are doing. Wolverine is the most popular character and every single movie seems to focus on him. I get it, but I'm not exactly thrilled that they turned Wolverine into Kitty Pryde for DOFP.

The Wolverine was a Netflix watch too. First Class I was on the fence about and it was getting really good reviews which is why I saw that in the Theater. The thing that DOFP has a hook for me personally is the whole combining of the future and past X-Men. However, again, I'd be disappointed if this is Wolverine 6.05 with special guest stars the X-Men.

In the end doesn't that just mean it's the 2nd to worst Spider-Man movie?

I think you can definitely say that this film is not well liked based on the box office. I've heard a lot of negative reviews, it's only gotten a B+ cinemascore. I don't know how anyone can say that the performance isn't related to the quality of the film.

I don't think the IMDB and RT user rating are as accurate as the critic ratings, since fanboys usually inflate those ratings.

It's nothing unusual. You liked Cap 1 but won't watch Cap 2 in cinemas.

Except Lizard wasn't "OsCorp" he was one employee who went nuts. The Indian guy wanted to inject people with the serum, but we don't know if Peter knows that.

Conner's WAS Oscorp though. And Oscorp did find out about the formula. In any event,Peter learned not to trust giving out his dad's research to people. His dad kept that stuff secret for a reason.

Nope

I wasn't able to see this film opening weekend, I saw it the following Wednesday. After hearing all the complaints, crying and moaning over certain things, like Kafka, I was shocked when I realized just how exaggerated people's complaints were. Typical of fanboys though.

Dr. Kafka was fairly godawful but was nowhere near as bad as most fanboys made him out to be. His accent was a bit over the top but I was expecting much worse.

Eh,you can say the same thing about the exaggerated complains over " Emo Peter" in SM3.They were both intended to be humorous', only SM3 was infinitely more successful.

I can't imagine a Kafka any worse than the one we got.

I can, if he really went over the top. I wouldn't consider what we got exactly over the top. He had a cliche and exaggerated accent but it's not like he broke into song and dance like in a German performance of Cabaret. :woot:

Superman Returns has a way higher critic score than MOS. I guess that pretty much determines SR is superior. What the fans think means nothing.

Box office and critic ratings can both be misleading.

Sometimes the fans are the best judges of quality.

Fans are extremely biased based on expectations. TASM and MOS are a clear example of people who had such high hopes that couldn't deal with the fact that the movies were not nearly as good as they wanted. The biggest proof of this is fans defending the movie with a passion even before they've seen it. So clearly fanboys are not good judges on that.

General audiences and Critics are more accurate, there is a much bigger chance that they give an honest unbiased opinion.

I won't get into a SR vs MOS debate but clearly the main reason why MOS i better received by "fans" its because he fights a lot more and because its a Nolan related project.

Because dancing in a club is a crime now days...:whatever:

Not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the dance scene in that other film? If so, I wasn't referring to that movie or trying to make fun of it. I was trying to come up with an idea that would have made that character or scene over the top. A Dr. in a jail dancing and singing would be a bit over the top if he was doing it for no reason. Was the character a bit godawful? Yes. Was he an abomination? Not even close.

Box office only accounts for the amount of people who went to see the movie not the amount of people who liked or disliked the the movie.

Many movies with low box office are well-liked and many movies with high box office are disliked by general audience.

All the humour in the Raimi films were cringeworthy lets be honest

As opposed to Electro singing happy birthday to himself. That was just brilliant writing and delivery all the way around, I think.

I completelly disagree, Raimi's cheese is part of him, part of his Directing, and part of the reason so many like me love him as a Director.

I'll say it's rare that the critics are way off but it does happen.

Blade 1 (55%), Blade 2 (59%), MOS (56%), and Batman 89 (72%) all have scores that are at least 12 points too low and the user ratings are far more in tune with most people's assessment.

Many would argue Superman Returns (76%) and Spider-man 3 (63%) both have scores that are too high.

Darkman's cheese was clever and well executed.

I can't say the same for SM 1-3 which seemed to laugh at comic books more than anything.

MOS was better received because it was a vast improvement from Superman Returns.

But you wouldn't know that looking at the critic score.

Even as a Sam Raimi fan i found Darkman kinda boring, never had that problem with his Spider-Man or Evil Dead movies.

I like Sam Raimi a lot as a director but I also found his Spidey films to be way too cheesy. The first film is an absolute camp fest.
