Christian Bale’s comment opens the door for another ‘Batman’ movie

By Claudine Zap | Movie Talk – 1 hour 9 minutes ago

Photo by Warner Bros. PicturesChristian Bale may not be ready to hang up his Batman suit, after all. Time and again, the star of the Christopher Nolan-directed "http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809271891/infoDark Knight" movies has said that the third installment of the Batman trilogy will be his last.
Fans have been having a hard time saying goodbye. "The Dark Knight Rises," out this summer, is said to be the last of the Bale-Nolan dynamic duo. And Bale has steadfastly given no reason for hope. In November, when the movie wrapped, he said, "Everything's finished. It's me and Chris (Nolan) -- that will be the end of that Batman era."
But maybe the Batman era will live on.
In an interview with Empire magazine, the actor leaves an opening, however small, that another movie could be in his future. He tells the publication, "My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it's appropriate, I think it's going out at the right time. But ... if Chris came to me with a script and said, 'You know what? There is another story' then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work."
But in the same interview it doesn't sound like Nolan is exactly on board. He says, "What drew me to Batman in the first place was Bruce Wayne's story, and that he's a real character whose story begins in childhood. ... That, for me, became a three-part story. And obviously the third part becomes the ending of the guy's story."
But what if the guy's story is re-invented -- in, say, a Justice League movie? In the hit "The Avengers," Robert Downey Jr.'s "Ironman" served as the familiar character in Marvel's group movie. Perhaps Bale could be persuaded to bring his caped crusader to the DC Comics' book version of its team superhero project. The "Justice League" could include Bale's Batman, along with Superman, Green Lantern, and even Wonder Woman. At least, superfans of DC Comics can always hope.
And hope springs eternal -- searches on Yahoo! have surged for "Justice League Movie" with the success of "http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1800019487/infoThe Avengers."
Joss Whedon, who directed "The Avengers," was recently asked how to make a Justice League picture work —- something that has been discussed for years. Whedon joked, "Call me," adding, "It's enormously difficult to take very disparate characters and make them work. DC has a harder time of it than Marvel because their characters are from an old, bygone era where characters were bigger than we were. Marvel really cracked the code in terms of 'Oh, they're just like us.' Marvel really started with 'http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808411893/infoIron Man.' I think you need to use that as your base."
Let's hope someone at Warner Bros. has the batphone on speed-dial.

We all know that Nolan is done.

So it's really a question of whether or not Bale would do a fourth one without Nolan. If he would, then that opens up the possibility of him teaming up with Henry Cavill, which WB/DC pretty much NEEDS to make happen if they want to start a shared universe in the next 10 years or so.

If they don't, we won't see a Justice League for the next 50 years.

My signature speaks for me...

He's simply talking in hypotheticals while expressing his enjoyment a over working with Nolan. Nolan has said he's done...so...nothing to see here. :O

No.

If they want a JL within the next 10 yrs, they'll just make a new/rebooted Batman. No biggie.

You're right, there won't be a Batman IV.

TDKR will be so awesome that it will count as three movies. So we should really be talking about Batman VI.

Nolan once said that in the Nolan-verse, Batman is the only superhero. There is no Superman, there is no Wonder Woman, there is no one else. Just Batman.

I don't know if it's clicked in anyone's mind, but if Bale actually said this, that would mean Batman doesn't die.

Right?

Or it would mean a whole bunch of other ****. This doesn't confirm or deny anything.

1) This is not news. Gary Oldman also joked ****ing his self out for Batman 4. Bale was quoted by Empire in January saying, "Well, I wouldn't say definitely. If Chris goes, 'Hey, I've got another story I think could be interesting,' then yeah, great, I'd go do that. I always assumed it would be three, but I could be wrong."

2) Nolan has insisted that Bruce and Batman's story ends in TDKR. Whatever that means.

3) They are rebooting the film franchise after this film according to WB executive Jeff Robinov. Nolan will be producing. That is/was their plan.

4) With everyone's contracts fulfilled, their asking price would go up a lot with another film, and inflate the budget.

It was mentioned before, and no it doesn't confirm or deny it at all, since he's only really hypothetically referring to working with Nolan. Nolan could come up with an 'it was all a dream' for all we know.

But he said he isn't doing any more.

Or Batman could get revived from the dead in an alley by a bunch of stray bats.

the film will begin with Billy Crystals character from Princess Bride looking over Batman's body broken by Bane at the end of Rises "hes only mostly dead".

Or Christopher Walken as the Angel Gabriel...who meets him with a simple "Hi..." when he resurrects....

Or maybe, Stick from Daredevil casts a spell over his grave. And says you are the original dark vigilante who inspired my Daredevil and Electra I can't let you stay dead.

So I hope this puts to rest anyone thinking Batman dies. The fact that he's even open to it means Batman isn't going to die

Bale's comment means NOTHING

I think he will be in another Bat flick, but as a villain. Maybe Bane? We all know how underwhelming Tom is as Bane. Nolan said his Bane would be larger than life, but it seems to me that his Bane is actually smaller than life (ok that's an exaggeration but you all get the point). Bale is capable of getting big and cut (BB, remember that?). Or he might play the Joker? Who knows.

Right?
If he dies do you think the studio would want him to say what he said or "No, we can't make a fourth movie. It's not possible with our ending"?

Guys face it, there will be no more Batman movies in the Nolan universe. The next one will be a reboot. Time to move on.

And then for the next reboot after that, Bale can play Alfred. Yes!

This.

Ugh, this thread  Even if they weren't drilling the fact that this is the conclusion into our heads, this isn't about TDKR. Why does this thread exist!?

I would love them to revisit this world in about 20 years like Indy 4, but you know...good.
