I've just finished playing Cold, Cold Heart... including all the collectibles.
Let me start by saying that I've enjoyed Batman: Arkham Origins. As a Batman fan, I'll always take what I can get and the chance to play and interact with these characters in a year two-type setting was a very welcoming prospect. However, apart from the odd bit of characterization work, the game was no where near as good as the Rocksteady installments and certainly exhausted the Arkham formula but it was a pretty entertaining experience overall and I'm very grateful for the hard work WB Montreal put into it.
In spite of all that, I wasn't TOO excited for the DLC... something that looked like an average retread of ''Heart of Ice'', and for the most part that's just what this is. Mr Freeze is one of my favourite Bat-villians and he was no doubt a memorable component of Arkham City, so I was at least somewhat interested in what WB Montreal would do with him.
Overall, they do a pretty good job with him and create a fun little diversion for Bat-fans waiting for Arkham Knight. The cutscenes are suitably engaging and the characterizations once again shine (I particularly enjoyed Batman chastising Alfred for trying to be a hero). The voice actors all do a great job in general except for a few instances.... I felt the voice actor for Ferris Boyle was a bit off and Smith's delivery of ''Take a seat... humanitarian!'' didn't have any of the force or disgust in it that Kevin Conroy's line read of ''Good Night... humanitarian!'' did. Then again the whole DLC didn't quite have the emotion that ''Heart of Ice'' did so I'm not surprised.
The combat and boss battle were a lot of fun and certainly shook things up a bit. I particularly enjoyed the freeze gun goons and felt they added an interesting dynamic. The length was satisfactory and most will enjoy running around Wayne Manor (which actually reminded me of a particular level in the Batman Begins video game) and Gothcorp. The Anarky stuff didn't really amount to anything but at least it helps you get your moneys worth.
The one thing I will say is that the graphics were terrible at times and the characters mouth movements were so off base at moments it was downright embarrassing. The Arkham games have never been great at this for some strange reason, so lets hope Arkham Knight gets it right.
So, yeah, a pretty fun DLC that doesn't rock the boat or do anything overly new with the Arkham formula... but it's worth it for Arkham Origins fans or any Bat-fans in general looking for an entertaining couple of hours.
