BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - Part 1

What do you guys think WB realistically expects from BvS?

There's no question they are going for a billion. I think the whole reason for Batman v Superman existing as opposed to Man of Steel part 2 is how far MoS was from reaching that figure.

No matter what WB says they are hoping for a billion. 800 million would arguably be profitable but for the sake of WB and their shareholders this film is supposed to really launch their entire connected DC film universe.

This film has a great release date. 400 million domestic and 1 billion WW is the goal.

WB doesn't have shareholders. MOS was never going to reach a billion.

Being a shareholder of Time Warner makes you a shareholder of Time Warner.

Yes, which is the parent company of WB studios. So the people who run the studio report to Time Warner who in turn reports to the shareholders. Right?

No...

And even if I understand what you are attempting to say that doesn't somehow mean WB has shareholders. If I own stock in Time Warner I am a shareholder of Time Warner, I am not a shareholder of Bugs Bunny, I am not a shareholder of CNN, I am not a shareholder of the Mayweather Pacquiao fight, I am not a shareholder of Warner Brothers.

You can only be a shareholder if you own shares of stock in a company. Since the are no such thing as Warner Brothers stock there are no such thing as Warner Brothers shareholders.

Yes.

Time Warner is a publicly traded company and its Warner Bros. division is a huge chunk of that business.

It's beyond naive to assume shareholders wouldn't care about the profitability of WB?

Like I said BvS is supposed to launch a tent-pole of like 10 films costing hundreds of million of dollars to produce. Its success or lack thereof would be a concern.

This is the most ridiculous conversation lol.

Shareholders of Time Warner would care, shareholders of Warner brothers wouldn't care because those people don't exist.

I think a lot of people were put off my MoS (myself included), so it could be a case of "once bitten...twice shy" for some.
Unless the reviews and word-of-mouth are absolutely sensational, I don't see it making more than $375 million DOM. $1.3 billion total.

You're dead on. It won't crack 400 million here. I'm just heart broken at how DC is being held back and hostage by the minds at WB.

WB are going to release 2 DC films a year starting from 2016. That's the opposite of being held back.

Edit : I see he was just banned. Probably a PBU?

I feel anyone who believe this film will make anything less than a billion are deluding themselves. F7 cemented that the spring season is quite invaluable, and having practically no competition months apart in both spectrums, WB are expecting nothing less than what TDK made. I can honestly see this thing having the 3rd, maybe even 2nd highest opening of all time. I can see it surpassing Avengers if the WOM is anything like Mad Max Fury Road is getting right now, though that is not very likely.

I think that something that has kind of been forgotten in the conversation lately is the very good dvd/br sales of MOS. It reminds me of Batman Begins...it did okay at the box office but the home video sales scored the numbers to earn the sequel. MOS was the best selling cbm the year it came out, so it clearly found an audience (and it did it with only a month of sales....) Add in Batman, WW and the other JLA cameos and there is every chance of it having a phenomenal opening.

By the time March 2016 roles around, the audience with be hungry for a big movie. Star Wars will have been out for three months and there is very little between it and BvS to fulfill the blockbuster appetite and very little after it until CA: CW.

The big thing will be for them to get it out in wide release as fast as possible with day and date in as many countries opening weak as they can.

I have no doubt BVS will hit a billion. Its the critical reception that's hard to guess

First of all I love DC comics over Marvel. I've tried to watch Marvel movies I really have. I have fallen asleep on every single Marvel movie to date. ALL OF THEM.

But I'm no foolish fan boy. I dearly love Superman & Batman they are the 2 most iconic guys in the comic book universe IMO. But as many here have eluded to. Batman & Superman are owned by Warner Brothers and when it comes to Warner's comic book studio & marketing you may as well say its run by a bunch of people who are clearly out of touch and have no idea what to do with these guys.

MOS didn't do well for a variety of reasons. Movie audiences will give franchises a chance if they screw up once but not twice. Warner nearly buried Superman with Quest for Peace. Yes kids today see that film and its horrendous. Superman Returns set Superman back again because of lack of action and some what dark tone. Henry Cavill is "ok" not a home run as Supes. Then with MOS's dark tone, people were turned off by his lack of charisma and his lack of caring. That's not the Superman general audiences know and love. Maybe that will start to change, but I felt he's cold in MOS.

They screwed up GL horribly.

Move to Batman, he was nearly buried by WB until Nolan saved the franchise. If BB had had some silly tone like Clooney's films Batman would be dead. My only gripe with the Nolan films is Nolan's selfishness that he didn't connect his trilogy with MOS. Its the kind of idiocy WB practices. It would have been perfect for Bale's Batman to go into retirement only to be brought back out by Superman's arrival. No knock on Affleck he looks incredible in the suit but no doubt Bale's Batman would have been a MAJOR DRAW to the box office because fans knew what they'd be getting with he and Morgan Freeman's Lucious Fox. Another actor who everyone seems to know and love with major star power. But no, WB doesn't pursue Bale or Freeman to continue. Just more poor decisions in a line of poor creative decisions by the studio.

If it makes one billion it will be refreshing but I doubt its going to happen. WB is so stupid, releasing trailers around the time of Star Wars. Moving the film to March, running from the 3rd installment of Captain America. The film should have been release the weekend of CA or the weekend after. Its BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. Batman vs Lex Luthor Superman vs Doomsday.

Now say what you will about Marvel but Marvel is cleverly and methodically hurting future JLA movies with Avenger movies. Ultron is nothing but a Brainiac rip off. But when Brainiac is finally introduced, general audiences will yawn and say been there done that. Thanos will be the next Avenger film, by the time we see Darkside, general audiences will yawn & say been there done that.

To make so many assurances that it make a billion is saying a lot when it comes to WB. Here we are less than a year away from the film & Synder & company won't say whether or not Doomsday is in the film. The marketing by WB for Superman movies is just mind numbing.

It should be because its Batman & Superman but WB is meddling too much.

The reason the Batman films did so well is because Nolan told WB to sit down get out of my way and be quiet.

I wish it would smash Avengers but it won't. Marvel did the right thing by tying all the characters together with solo films first and not changing any characters. I believe if Bale was Batman it would make more $$$.
