Yes. It means the movie broke even. It mean the investment didn't pay off. It means they could have spent that money on something else that would have.

Not denying any of that but that could be said of most of the studios making superhero movies. I think we'd be surprised about how many actually make money....

Nevermind. I just answered my own question. Even if marvel didn't make profit on previous films they laid a ground work of critical success. BvS didnt.

I'll be back with another spin soon Poni. Mwahahahaha!

In terms of box office i hope.

Let me put it like this, if you payed a guy, lets say a thousand bucks, to build and sell something, but it barely made you a profit, would you then turn around and give him another grand or even 2 grand to do the same thing again?

lets say you do, and it does even worse the 2nd time.
( Keep in mind some people liked the thing he built the first time, some didn't.)
you pretty much break even with the 2nd go. It's a quality item, but you just don't understand why people didn't take to it. It's Even less liked this time by the majority.

He then comes back for a third try, and you just barely got your money back from the 2nd go. He now wants 3 grand to try yet again.

This time, you may or may not even get your money back. Never mind making a profit, you may even go in the hole because no one cared for the last one that he made. By now, people have learned it's more of the same.

All the parts are there. All the tools are there to make a really great item that just about everyone would want, except the dude making it doesn't know how to correctly build it.
it's risky.

Yeah. I came to that conclusion myself. If it just broke even but was a critical success or had good wom. Thats something to build off of. They spent all that money for absolutey nothing.but worldbuilding a world no one seems to care about.

Look at it this way, there is a possibility that an R rated, 58 million dollar budget DEADPOOL movie gives this a run for it's money.

THAT is a success story.
It depends on how you look at it really. Deadpool is a well-liked, well-received and GA friendly film. BvS is the opposite of all that. If BvS had the same critical reception and great WOM like Deadpool did it'd have made way more.

I think BvS just makes the money it deserves. No more. No less.

We all care about it. That's the bloody problem here...

BVS had dem expectations. Deadpool had none.

It really is an amazing thing to see. From hype so big and real you could literally feel it, to a 70% drop it's 2nd weekend.
i'm thinking 49 mill for the weekend.

Nearly every country... drops after drops... crashes after crashes...

Dear me.

They're just reporting the facts, unfortunately the facts are negative.

For a movie starring the two greatest superheroes of all time, that cost $400 million to make? That's supposed to launch a cinematic universe to compete with Marvel?

It's apocalyptic.
It'd be apocalyptic the movie was loved by critics and fans and GA and still had this kind of 2nd weekend drop.

Since most people seem to hate it, making this kind of money isn't so bad. If this movie is as bad as some of you make it out to be, then you should be impressed if it manage to a make any profit at all.

Forbes is killing this movie! Nothing but articles about it, most if not all negative. Can't really argue with facts though.

There's a difference between the Mark Hughes-run geeky site of Forbes' online (pushing a positive spin on things) and the business side of Fobes Magazine (numbers and facts)

A. You don't know what anyone's thoughts are of the movie itself unless you ask them. Stop with the hater nonsense. We're talking numbers

B. BvS is looking like it WON'T make a profit. It would be impressive if it does.

While I loved BvS I think it was too unconventional film to justify it's budget.

It's more of a brooding theatre play than what majority of people want from their CB movie and WB may have hard time getting their money back because of that. I mean, I wouldn't want my BvS any other way, but my taste does not represent the paying majority here, obviously.

I'm glad WB are bold, but it will hurt them, it seems.

Well you good sir make a fair point. If the movie is as universally hated as everyone here assumes its a miracle it will break even. Maybe WB is breathing a sigh of relief of what could have happenned.

BvS opened bigger, did it not? Hype drove people to see it on OW. Movie's leg has everything to do with WOM.

Yep.

Hype caused the high opening weekend numbers.

But quality caused the huge drops post opening weekend.

Oh just saying Deadpool doing well is surprisinv because dem expectations. BvS doing poorly is catashtrophe because dem expectations.

I still have faith in this movie. A hypothetical gross of $850,000,000 is nothing to scoff at, because it would indicate that there are enough people interested in the concept and foundation for future films presented in the movie. Sure, it may not be great from the perspective of the film's financers and property owners, but it's still an impressive number and indicates that there's a lot of interest out there. LOL at scoffing at $850,000,000. Oh, please.

The problem is that you guys are comparing the film's performance to other blockbusters and are benchmarking it against expectations; relative to other blockbusters and expectations, it's not doing as well, but in absolute terms, it's doing great.

Put it this way: $1 billion dollars may be less than $2 billion but it's still a lot of money (this is just an analogy and has nothing to do with the film's gross).

But that is how investment works. If I spend $100 to buy stock and my return is $125, I am going to be pissed off when comparable stocks are being bought for $75 and getting returns of $200.

Well of course $850 Million is a lot of money.

But it's a joke for a Batman versus Superman film with Wonder Woman, a really bad joke at that.

You can't have it both way.

A. If you're one of the haters who think the critics are fair and the movie is one if the worst CBMs of all time and that it deserves all the hate and negative buzz, then you shouldn't look at the drop it has and act as if it's the disaster in apocalyptic proportion. You have to see the drop and think it's well deserved.

B. If you're one of the supporters who think the critics are wrong and the movie is actually good and doesn't deserve the hate it's been getting then the 2nd weekend drop of this proportion is a disaster and a cause for concern.

If it's indeed a terrible movie then it just gets what it deserves. It's a bad news for those who like it though.

They want it to fail because they want it to succeed.
