So, BvS suffers the ultimate humiliation at the hands of Melissa McCarthy.

Seems like it.

With this rate, no other studio will be afraid to put their movies against DC movies in the near future.
Even WW moved from Transformers 5.

This was already linked but not quoted or bolded

Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss appears to have elbowed Warner Bros. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice out of No. 1 after its two weekend hold, with respective industry projections for each title at $24.5M and $23.3M.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the projections are off. It's probably wider than that. More like 24M for The Boss and 21M for BvS. 24M was the high end expectation for The Boss by analysts lol. That came true. Thing is, I'm surprised they haven't learned that BvS is going to continue to fall under their expectations...

If Melissa McCarthy beats this then damn. I mean seriously? It has a worse CineScore and RT percentage, audience Score, and average score than BvS

People are just that desperate to watch something else.

The big difference between these two movies is that The Boss is expected to fail and be panned by critics - like Adam Sandler fare. I feel like The Boss is probably a better movie than Tammy (based off the trailer and premise), and that had a 21M OW.

BvS was expected to be the next Jurassic World, Force Awakens..it was expected to make a billion dollars MINIMUM worldwide. Plus the critical reception was expected to be better than MOS. imo

It isn't too surprising. BvS probably left most people in the theater confused and depressed. Why repeat that?

WB won't the opening week battle but ultimately will wind up losing the box office war... Not only did BvS suffer historic drops, but they won't be able to get prime release dates from their competitors. I am fairly confident that other studios will release their big movies directly against or the week after any future WB movies without fear, and ultimately this will end up costing them hundreds of millions long term..

A melissa mcarthy movie being number its debut weekend, who is surprised by that?

A majority of this forum, go back to about a month ago, many claimed BvS would own the box office until Civil War came out. So yes, it is surprising although now that many posters are revising history, nobody will admit to claiming this....

Because of my own feelings toward it's not really a surprise as much as it is sad in the pathetic way to me.

If this movie was well received by the audience it would still be number 1. And it's sad to me to see a movie with literally 2 of the greatest superheroes of all time getting this kind of result

Im there with you but meliss mccarthy movies have a big following sadly. I think based off those projections noone wanted to go to the theaters

Il admit it shoot I thought bvs would own as well atleast til civil war or huntsman. Now weve seen what weve seen Im not surprised nor am I ashamed. You learn more from a loss then a win.

They haven't. It sounds like Snyder will be given the green light to go ahead and direct JL1. Not sure about JL2 though. When will they ever learn?

If they give him JL1 they should give him JL2 as well. Let's assume JL1 is received like BvS and so they don't want Snyder on JL2. Would you really want to be the director who has to come i and clean things up in a part 2? You're pretty much stuck with the story Snyder set up in part 1 and probably have to keep similar tone, etc. Would be tough to make major changes in a part 2. Remember - we are not talking a movie and its sequel. We are talking a two part story.. very different beast.

Basically a new director for JL2 after a disspointing JL1 would be like going to the bullpen in a tie ballgame with bases loaded and nobody out.

Yep. That's truly the worst thing about this. BvS made DC Films into a bloody, blinded boxer on the ropes. Everyone's gonna pile on for the KO now.

If JL1 is received like BvS and they keep Snyder then that's just silly. I get that it's a hard job for a director to clean up, but keeping Snyder just wouldnt be a good move at all for the box office or the quality

Very true. Other studios gave a wide bearth to BvS.. don't expect that next time. Expect disney to have something big to release the week after JL1 and they have enough properties that will be easy to do.

You can guarantee it. And Universal. And Sony. And Fox. Now they're gonna go out of their way to kill the toothless beast.

If you recall, this is exactly what happened with Civil War and BvS. Marvel wouldn't budge.

They played chicken with WB. And WB chickened out. What more now?

What a prophetic quote from one of the Russo bros.

..it seems like studios – and I think a lot of this has to do with social media. Social media is so quick to identify when something isn’t working. You know, on Friday night by like 6 p.m., whether a movie is in trouble. And I think you can’t hide anymore. You have got to show up with a great movie, or you are screwed. I think you are finding that it’s happening less and less, that something that is not that good is doing very well. It’s forcing everyone’s hand, and really pushing people to do very good work."

LOL Pandya has never been more wrong when it comes to this movie.

BvS will be lucky to hit that number.

On Friday it made 6M
Saturday estimates are at 10.6M
My estimate for Sunday is 5M

I have it pegged at 20-22M

Yeah. Pandya has been overestimating with his projections.

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Pandya been overestimating every time for this movie? Feels like it
Yeah.
Tbh, I feel like the weekend estimates for BvS have ALWAYS been higher than the actuals.

That is why despite the estimates of 6,10.6,5 for this weekend totalling up to 21.6M I believe it will be much closer to 19-20 million. 21 is the maximum.
