BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - - - Part 15

I don't want to say it is over since JL is filming.
But...

It's over.

I'll see WW and Squad, but I cannot get hyped about Justice League right now.

WB got into the superhero universe game way too late, and they are giving it only mediocre effort.

For me personally, I am done with Snyder's movies from now on. I will not spend any more money on any movie he makes. WB made a huge mistake entrusting him with DCEU and I think he's done a really bad job while wasting millions of dollars for the studio. I will see SS for sure. WW I'll wait for reviews. Still not sold on Gal Gadot as actress even though she looks great as WW.

Lol still with the "agenda" crap? Some people are just ridiculous.

The goal of a blockbuster film is to turn a substantial profit on its investment (hence the TERM blockbuster). If a film doesn't turn a substantial profit it failed in its goal. End of. Cry "but but but but I loooooooved it" until your head explodes doesn't change the reality of the situation. BvS is a failure on literally every level.

It would be a bit different if it got great reviews, an A Cinemascore, and overwhelming positive comments on social media as well. At least then there would be something positive to take away from the film, even with the underwhelming box office and a good potential for growth in the future. We saw pretty much that same scenario with Batman Begins and because it was so good the popularity of the franchise exploded with the sequel.

But disappointing box office plus bad reviews plus poor word of mouth has dud written all over it.

Yeah I feel like that's the move for me too.
I love 300, I like Watchmen; but Snyder has been on a losing streak for me. I dont wanna pay for movies he's involved in. Now if I'm wrong about the qualities for the next movies he's involved in I'll gladly and happily eat my words

I think it speaks more to the ludicrous spending that even a high number can draw scoffs and dismissals.

It's one thing to spend so much in the first place, it's another when it doesn't even look like the film used it wisely. Transformers are 1/3rd's cheaper yet look far more massive in scale and action.

There is clearly some bloat in the script. I mean, they have a 3 hour, unrated version ready to go. Some stuff should've been cut before they were shot. I think this was also an issue with ASM2, too many things shot, only to be cut. And while this is normal in every movie, the script probably could've used another go over.

OH come on, don't tell me you are not interested in his fountainhead flick.

It's unbelievable that only a month out and this movie makes less than $10m on the weekend.

I do think WB by 2020 is in deep trouble given their money spent on their other properties and how their DC slate will fail.

I would say by 2019, the DCEU could be over save for Batman sequels. But this is only based on the assumption that JL1 will be of a similar caliber as JL1, in which case it will make less than BvS. Which all seems likely since Snyder is staying on to direct.

I do like 300 and Watchmen quite a bit but none of his other movies are any good. Snyder is like you said in a losing streak but he's only getting more defiant as a result. If you can't learn from your mistakes you are doomed to repeat it. That's why I have no desire to see JL as long he's involved in it.

Its so sad man. WB/DC has unquestionably been the talk of the town for the last 3 comic cons and now I have a strong feeling its gonna be awkward this year when WB presents Justice League, WW and SS.

Shockingly you immediately assumed I was talking about you. Who'd a thunk it. :whatever:

As bad as BvS ended up reviewed, I think the WB should feel lucky they walked away with their tails still attached :o

While BvS continues to nosedive each weekend domestically, internationally it has begun to level out at least a little bit. I mean, the drops are still awful but a little less awful. In order, it's dropped by 67%, 60%, and now 56%. I think it might manage another $25M overseas ending at ~$540M (just slightly more than the last Twilight pic).

Here's a sobering thought. Had it not been for China BvS may very well have not beaten Deadpool in world wide box office.

And I say all this being a fan of MOS and BvS. I give both those films 7/10's
But the films we are getting should be of better quality. I want to be able to rave about these films and I can't.
Yes, visually these characters have never looked better. But the direction Snyder is taking some of these characters to isn't sitting well with me. Because of the end events of BvS, I don't understand how Cavill could have A LOT of screen time in JL. Half the film will be trying to bring his character back.
It's just, ugh.

I don't want these films to be fluffy and light like Marvel. But it seems like that tone is what people want.
JL needs to be lighter. If it is as serious as MOS was but with the character moments that Squad looks to have, I think we will be ok. Because while I like BvS, my god is it dark. It's so overly dark like Batman Returns was.

Honestly, I don't think the tone is the problem, really. I think it's the fact that the actual plot of the movie was a mess that tried to do too much, and when you're coming off an already divisive movie like MoS, that's begging for trouble. MoS's Superman can be controversial, but I think if you had put MoS Superman and this Batman and Wonder Woman into a movie that was less crowded and had a better plot and less embarrassing dialogue, it would have worked. The Injustice comics work, after all. I feel like what happened here is the same thing that happened with TASM2 - a beloved character was put into a movie that was a mess. It still made over $700mil at the box office, despite that, because people love the character.

But unlike Sony, who just decided to go back to the drawing board and scrap a bunch of plans, WB has movies set in this universe completed and shooting. It can't go back to the drawing board, it has to soldier on ahead. They better pray WW and SS are better received, and that JL doesn't squander whatever goodwill they manage to win off the backs of those two.

Here's a sobering thought. Had it not been for China BvS may very well have not beaten Deadpool in world wide box office.

Oh absolutely. It also looks like Zootopia might beat it domestically and ww too. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman coming in under animated foxes and bunnies. If you had told me that a month ago I'd have laughed in your face.

Good company...

So is this still at bomb at $827 million? Just checking.

Yeah but last week AoU's comparable Saturday increase was also in the 70% range so there was some parity there. This weekend there ain't none of that and that just looks a might bit suspicious to me. When BvS developes insta-legs(with no discernible reason) for a brief moment when it'll serve WB's interests I take that with a big grain of salt. Like the WB execs who hand out these estimates really wanted to keep the additional story of Zootopia actually passing BvS is the weekend grosses out of the headlines for a bit longer. And maybe BvS actually manages to remain above Zootopia this weekend. As close as they are, it surely won't remain that way next weekend.

I think it'll end up between 8.7-8.8M. I'm basing that on it doing slightly worse than it did last week against Boss. 1.14 increase on Friday, .7 increase on Saturday, and .4 decrease on Sunday. Last week was about +1.25, +.75, and -.38 respectively. It would normally would not have had actual decreases in its 4th weekend, but this time it was facing some real competition.

No one claims it's a bomb except the people acting like its a success. It still hasn't broken even. Not sure it will at this point. It's a dud, not a bomb.

I'm honestly just checking, guys. Haven't been here in a while. I genuinely don't know if a movie making $827 million on a $250 million budget is considered a failure, so I was checking with you guys.

It's all relative. Very, VERY disappointing at the box office. Someone said it right earlier. WB left 100s of millions of dollars on the table. That is akin to losing money.

It's worse to lose 100M than get 100M less than you should have, but the bottom line is that you still have 100M less than you could've had.

It needs between $850-$925 mil to get in the black. So what do you think?

Failure? Not at all. An underperformer? Most probably.

I'm still wondering how the hell the budget for this thing got so high? I mean take an example like Transformers 3 which had GIGANTIC and prolonged action sequences, infinitely more CGI, shot on location in (Chicago), expensive directors and actors and is still somehow cost about $60 mill less. Where did all that extra money go because i didnt see it on the screen
