AND, I think the optimistic projection was within reach "IF" people/critics had felt it was a really good movie; as evidenced by the OW BO #s. Even low 80s on the meter and maybe a rating of 7.5+. I think "most" people really wanted to like it. Sure, there were some MCU folks who probably wanted it to fail, but, by and large, most people just want to go see a good movie.
I actually dared to dream after Goyer was booted that we'd get a strong, faithful portrayal of these characters and that the BO might challenge Avatar for #1 spot.
I don't believe anyone actually involved in MCCU would want it to fail. Failure is toxic and could dampen enthusiasm for all SH movies, not just DCEU or Snyders'.
Feige pretty much said this already.
Since CA:CW is seen by most as analogous, at least thematically, to BvS, that failure has clear potential to impact GA enthusiasm for the MCCU's next release.
Maybe some misanthropic one-eyed fanboys hope for failure, but they would have to be in the absolute minority.
As the OW shows, their was massive interest in this. How could there not be.
Just remember that people need a decent movie in between awesome shots as well.
I was afraid this would fail. Optimistic after Affleck and Terrio came aboard and Goyer was ousted, but it seems my fears were more realistic than my optimism.
I'm gutted at the result. Disappointed. Perplexed. Frustrated. A bit angry, but mostly just disappointed. Shia LeBeouf at Transformers (Rob Cantor should do a Zack Snyder song).
If JL performs like BvS without the OW, you'd have to think that's it for the DCEU.
Who'd invest their money there instead of the MCCU?
Maybe they'll finish what they had already started, but anything else?
I don't think so.
You'd have to be insanely optimistic or horribly naive to think BvS hasn't massively impacted JL's OW already, regardless of SS or WW success/reception.
They're different creative teams.
JL is the same one we had for BvS.
The conspiracy theorists who somehow believe the world is full of people who just refuse to do anything but hate this movie are deranged.
Who wants to hate a Batman/Superman movie? No-one. Maybe the level of fan outrage has them confused, but imagine if you saw a movie about your Mother, who you love (and is coincidentally named Martha), but the movie was not really about her at all, but got all of the superficial details correct, but portrayed doing things that were not only out of character, but denigrated her character. I think you'd be upset. Rightly so, if the defense people presented was no more cogent than "it's not your Mother, it's the director's revision and deconstruction, with an emphasis on an allegorical representation of and reaction to the cynicism of our modern world".
Bit of a stretch? Maybe. The reception would suggest not though.
