I don't know about box office but in terms of critical reception, BvS already has a tough task of pleasing critics as they just don't like anything from Zack Snyder, they are biased, to say the least.

Critics didn't like Minions this year too (55% on RT just like MoS) yet that film went sailing past a billion.

I'm pretty sure neither Jurassic World nor Furious 7 had a great critical reception and they both broke records. Personally, I felt Furious 7 was mediocre and Jurassic World was terrible, but the audience that made them so profitable doesn't care about RT (or probably even know it exists). That's the audience this last trailer was made for and I'm sure they'll come out in droves.

It should have around 3 weeks with very little competition which may allow the film to absorb a mixed reaction better than say MOS.

Here's a list of all films coming out in 2016, the only films i see here challenging Batman v Superman's spot in the box office at No 1. is the Jungle book film released on APRIL 15TH and Huntsmen: Winters War on APRIL 22ND, and thats 4 weeks at earliest, so it's basically BvS on its 4th week vs JB on its 1st week.

That is a month of zero major competition from all sides and a month of Batman v Superman staying No 1. at the box office, and every billion dollar film this year has accomplished that goal in less than a month:

AOU: 24 days to $1B

F7: 17 days to $1B

JW: 13 days to $1B

Hell even Man of Steel with heavy competition from Monsters University and World War Z manage to cross the half a billion dollar mark in 21 days.

So a month at the No 1 spot for BvS is a good indicator of how well it will do.

Those are some neat stats, j3. It makes you realize what a fantastic move it was by WB to position BvS in that release slot.

Thanks! :D

And realising that great release date it has makes me wonder who at warner Bros. decided that it was a good idea to release Man of Steel in the heart of June on the 13th except for of course the 75th of Superman, MoS made.

OW:$116m ($121m if you include the thursday night showings)

DOM: $291m

INT: $377m

WW: $668m
and a week from its heavy opening day later Monsters University and WWZ open up and knock it down to 3rd place which sucks, im sure if WB chose a better release date for MoS i would have predicted $350m domestically rather than $291m and moved its totals to $730m+ worldwide.

Lack of Competition is important AF for films and im glad WB chose easter March for that release date.

Jungle Book may be its foil just 2 weeks in. Hard to say right now, though it's worthy to note it did make a big splash in its D23 debut.

Actually it's 4 weeks away.

March 25: week 1

April 1: week 2

April 8: week 3

April 15th week 4

So yeah even the greatest box office films can drop in their 4th week at the box office, but that is plenty of time to go past the billion dollar mark.

It's 3 weeks. Plenty of time, assuming it's released worldwide around the same timeframe as well.

Well Batman v Superman is opening at 45 countries in the same week according to IMDB.

No China? That's gonna hurt. I can imagine the headlines now if BvS rakes in lower when in the same timeframe from the year before FF7 easily reached a billion.

Since when has a film opened in China the same week as the West.

Besides if a film like Terminator Genysis can make $100m+ in China then BvS has this in the bag. :cwink:

Critics are not children. RT scores mean squat when it comes to kids films. I had to take my daughter to see minions 4 times. That's 8 tickets just for me. Many other parents had to do this also. I absolutely love Comic book superhero movies....I didn't see any of them 4 times at the theater.

C.Lee, what do you predict BvS will do worldwide?

And yeah, kids films are kinda critic proof these days.

China's scheduling is different than other countries.

Long term.....no idea. It all depends if the movie is good. Opening weekend will be spectacular though.

Yeah i hope it's good enough from the general audience perspective to give it some legs, it's got weeks of barely any competition and it opens on the easter weekend.

Terminator Genysis' BO fortunes were definitely boosted by Arnie doing a publicity tour in Shanghai, who's still very much beloved here, so I'm hoping WB/DC is sending a delegation as well to promote BvS. The premise of Batman and Superman in the same movie doesn't sell itself as much here in the east.

China release dates are not decided until a month before release. Star Wars just got it's China date last week for January 9.

BvS just needs a decent RT score so the box office won't be affected by critics.

Yep. Anti-Snyder bias + widespread Marvel Studios bias = A somewhat bad situation for Warners and BvS.
