You know, I was just talking to a friend and I had this thought. Tell me if you think I'm crazy.

The theme of BvS is powerlessness. Alfred makes that speech about the feeling of powerlessness. Batman has given up believing that he can really change anything. Lex talks about the oldest lie in America being "that power can be lessened."

Bruce felt powerless to help his parents. Bruce also felt powerless the day of the Black Zero Event. He chooses to take on Superman because Superman has too much power and it scares him. Lex wants Superman gone. He talks about God and he has that speech about how "If God is all-powerful he can't be all good, and if he's all good, he can't be all-powerful." Lex wants to either control Superman or destroy him. if you follow that through, you realize that Batman's arc is about taking back his self-control, and that he accomplishes that by symbolically doing something he was unable to do as a kid.
Clark has to, in effect, give up everything in order to win, the powerful becoming powerless...
and Lex keeps trying to gather more and more power unto himself
but loses it all in the end.

There is something there, I just don't think Snyder sold that theme too well.

That critic called Snyder's BvS more adult than Nolan's take on sophomoric, pseudo-tragic elements of the Batman graphic novels.

Hahaha that's rich. Snyder more adult. Too funny. He even said Snyder was among today's outstanding filmmakers. :whatever:

Did you see the part where I explicitly mentioned From the perspective of Discourse Analysis? Clearly you didn't.

Here's some advice though, when you find your opinion being echoed by the large majority of people around you, you should perhaps ask yourself why that is.

Run along now little tyke.

Sure thing Citizen Kane.

If you're asking the questions and pulling threads together I think he sold them acceptably, but maybe didn't resolve them.

Ya, unfortunately, I'm one of the fans that strongly vehemently hated this thing. To each their own of course. If someone came out of that enjoying it, or even thinking it was passable, it's safe to say I do not share any tastes in entertainment quality that they would.

It's not a right or wrong, yes or no. Simply personal preference of course. I won't deem anyone's opinion wrong on this. I just won't ever take entertainment advice from anyone that did :)

Yeah, that's true.

Luckily I've never reached that level of disgust with a movie in my life.

Serious question for those who are most familiar with Superman:
How is he able to come back to life after being stabbed through the heart and denied sunlight for what seems like days? Earlier in the movie he is revitalized by the sun, yet after being killed by Doomsday he is put in a coffin to be mourned.

The sun's radiation will still affect him but direct exposure just accelerates the process greatly. He's likely in a regenerative coma, but he doesn't need direct sunlight to recover.

Alright I just saw it for a second time now and I wasn't thrilled with it the first time and watching it again I was less harsh with it I enjoyed it a little more the second time, and would move my score from a 6 to a 7.5 to everyone whose only seen it once I would say give it one more look I think you'll enjoy it more.

5/10

I should've watched more Daredevil instead...

Anyone else found that [BLACKOUT]"Martha"[/BLACKOUT] scene with Batman was kinda hilarious? It's like an actual...trigger...word.

It was bizarre.

The actual Batman vs Superman fight was based on Bruce Wayne being an idiotic rage monster and Clark Kent being manipulated by Lex.

There was no real exploration or clash of their ideologies.

I mean seriously... Batman and Superman were actually willing to straight up murder each other!

And what stops it all? The fact that their mothers have the same name.

Plus why does Superman call his mom "Martha"? Is it some way to still hide his identity from Batman? But then, being that desperate to save "Martha" should clue the "worlds greatest detective" in.

Then all of a sudden they are best buddies. It was the most unearned team up i've ever seen.

Clark knew who batman was. At the start of their fight, he calls batman "Bruce." He said the Martha line to appeal to that human part of Batman's memory of his own mother. He knew that would have a chance of hitting batman right in the feels and he was right.

He does that every time someone mentions the name. If a serial killer is called Martha, he just lets her go.

To quote another poster:

If only Joker had a mother named Martha, Robin would still be alive

Ahh yea you're correct. But still, the whole thing seemed silly to me.
I expected their fight to have a bit more meaning.

Martha is Batman's kryptonite. Joker should have Martha tattoos all over his body. Maybe that's how Bane broke Batman in the BSverse...he shouted "Maaarrrrthaaa!" In a megaphone.

But seriously, watching BS is like watching one of those Gene Deitch Tom & Jerry cartoons. The characters look like Tom & Jerry, but they don't act like them. Reminds me of those scary dreams where you find out that your parents are evil mutants who eats kids.

Nightmarish and strange.

Bane's voice filter was acting up and Batman couldn't understand what the hell he was saying, so he just shouted back "POLO" while bursting through a wall at him
