Justice League Ben Affleck IS Bruce Wayne/Batman - Part 6

I'm fine with this if they announce that the original DCEU Affleck-directed Batman movie is back in the cards. Then I can just ignore the elseworld Joker and Batman movies and any other low-budget non-DCEU nonsense they throw at us.

That's even less probable than having Snyder come back for a new JL movie.

Affleck talked about how much he still wants to direct a Batman movie months after stepping down and now we have a new regime overseeing DC. Which means the old one that almost drove him out is no longer a thing. In the interview where he mentions how much he still would really love to direct a Batman movie, he goes on to say that the reason he stepped down was because of the script not being what he wanted. That whole creative direction they were going in post-BVS and pre-JL has been proven to be a huge mistake and they likely will no longer pursue it. Johns (who co-writing the Batman script with Affleck) is basically out of the picture. If Reeves movie is DCEU-adjacent and not part of the canon that leaves the doors wide open for the Affleck directed Batman movie. I say thinks are looking pretty good on that front.

At this point there's probably a higher chance of Singer returning for a Superman Returns sequel than Affleck directing a Batman movie.

I honestly can't see how it matters beyond "association".

If it's a young Batman series, then as long as they don't contradict the events of BVS and JUSTICE LEAGUE (what are they going to do, have him meet Superman and the Leaguers again for the first time in a solo franchise?) it could easily be seen as a prequel to the Affleck Batman films regardless of the label it's under. We know Batman changed drastically by the time the events of BVS rolled around, so there's all kinds of room for character differences.

And if the "Elseworlds Joker" story needs a younger Batman for the story, then it makes a fair amount of sense to use a young Batman from THE BATMAN instead of two young Batmen on top of Affleck's version of the character.

Neither is likely to happen, vocal fans and click-bait media was bound to do some damage to comic book movies and this is the result, film-makers will think ten times before they commit to any movie nowadays as there's a narrow window left open for creativity, anything that's not made as a crowd - pleaser will get hauled over coals, and it's success at Box Office left to chance.

Things that can happen in my order of preference :

-Affleck is Batman in Reeves film, thats set in the DCEU
-They recast Affleck with some accomplished older Batman like Gylenhall. Its set in the DCEU.
-Reeves Batman film is set outside the DCEU. Batfleck stays in the DCEU, maybe brings in Gavin O'Connor for a Batfleck solo movie?
-They recast Affleck with a younger Batman, and its set in the DCEU. I dont see this working. Is Affleck gonna stay for the other flicks in the current timeline? The only reason Affleck will stay if he can do a character driven batman film, not an action/adventure movie.

I dont see any other possibilities. Are there any other ways this can play out?

It's possible that -

  1. Affleck is out of DCEU as Batman.
  2. Affleck waits for some time and writes a story for an else-worlds Batman movie.
  3. Affleck pitches the movie for the new else-worlds series of 'stand-alone DC movies under the new DC-dark label.
  4. Affleck is ready to star in it as Batman and direct it (or either of two)

Woah, Affleck going from DCEU to the DC-dark label? That's something I dont see happening at all. That definitely WOULD BE confusing.

But he can agree to go behind the camera.

Yeah I can see him directing, but not being Batman again. Dunno...I'm more interested in seeing Affleck as Batman, than him directing a DC flick. And that's coming from a guy who thinks Affleck is a better director than Matt Reeves.

They just need to recast and forget the DCEU for now.
Basically reboot Batman in the DCEU with a series of prequels and no influence from previous movies.

It looks like Dc are going to split in two.

Taking a leaf out of deadpool, logan they will have (let's call it) DC dark, where the budget is smaller and the story line is gritty for a mature audience.
This can be a more realistic take, it doesn't have to be epic in size and will have a market i am sure.

Then, carry on with the usual DCEU, but i guess focus on AM, WW, hopefully superman, Flash, Shazam etc and be more family orientated, big budget summer tent poles.

In the words of Arthur Curry - i dig it.

I have been saying this exact thing for ages - WW and WW2 is first world war and 1984. Let's hope WW3 is early 00's - So you can ignore BvS etc

Green lantern corp can be any time or place - i would love the 70's and set in space, so fun. The sequels can too - you can forget BvS etc

AM, under the sea, can feel separate. you can forget BvS etc

Shazam, we have no idea but let's hope it's ambiguous on when it is set - therefor it could be retconned to before BvS.

MOS2 should be set in the time between mos (2013) and BvS (2016) there is so much potential to work with.

This will take you until 2025 and hopefully made $$

All the while, the reboot on the other side with Matt Reeves is well under way and a new universe is the focus and can be expanded upon.

^ That sounds limiting, as it would keep Batman solo movies only in else-worlds.

Kids also like Batman, so they need to make a solo Batman movie set in DCEU as well.

I don't get the need to ignore BvS or to set everything before BvS, as if 'presence' of BvS is somehow preventing the other movies from taking place.

After JL, which was essentially a soft-reboot they can still keep making movies they want keeping a loose continuity.

Definitely. If he's out as Batman then he's out as Batman. Personally, I don't want him to go. I just want some confirmation of where we really are with him.

I have a crazy theory, but here goes. I think Hamada is bringing the multiverse into DC films. There, you can all call me crazy now. :o

I agree. I do think they're setting that up. Not sure how I feel about it though.

By having it start on TV with The Flash and then you can go from there. I mean the Flash has already traveled to other worlds. You have him travel to the Donner/Singer world with Routh still Superman or Burton's world or Nolan's. Then to the current DCEU with current Flash showing up. There is so many ways they can do it.

Interesting :yay: Can you expand, any specifics?

Just a hunch based on the recent rumors and developments. :yay: They're moving forward with the Phoenix Joker movie, there's the rumor that Reeves' Batman isn't part of the DCEU, the Mark Hughes rumor of The Batman being in the same universe as the Phoenix film, the DCEU Letoker film being actively developed along with SS2 and BOP, the rumors of Hamada wanting Affleck to stay, the rumors of Affleck wanting to stay....

My take is this: Marvel showed Thanos very early on in a cameo. They had a big plan leading to the big comic event which is the Infinity War thing. So considering one of those big events in DC lore are the Crisis series with the multiverses, and considering they're splitting DCEU and DC Dark, they could be setting up such an event film 10 years down the line by actually splitting the universes and giving us 2-3 different takes on the same characters like it seems we're getting and making them clash on screen in an eventual Crisis event on film. Speculation on my part, of course, but their latest decisions actually point in that direction.
