Justice League Ben Affleck IS Bruce Wayne/Batman - Part 6

Sigh... and I thought Matt Reeves was safe from fanboys, such a nice fella

I loved Affleck in the role, but I only want him to stay if he's fully committed to the role and is enthusiastic about portraying The Dark Knight in his mythos. Affleck always seemed like he never wanted to be there. Even going back to Comic Con where Zack brought him, Henry and Gal on stage, compared to Henry and Gal, it looked like he was counting down the seconds to get away and his demeanor and body language only got worse as time went on. I just don't trust him anymore and feel we would be doing this rendezvous with him in the role even if he did stayed. I'd like to see him do a kicka$$ standalone Batman flick in Reeves vision but even givin his PR history with the character, I'd rather have somebody fully committed who wants the role rather than this back and forth, I wish I was somewhere else crap and this is coming from a fan who stood strong in Affleck's corner ever since his casting.

I'll take the exact opposite, please and thank. Ben was great, but he should not be a priority over getting someone as talented as Matt Reeves onboard.

I keep coming back to this, after rumours that he didn't want to be Batman, Affleck said this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg603gOX9jM

I think he still wants to be Batman, I think he was annoyed about the changes to JL, but I don't think he's any less fond of the character.

I have no idea what Reeves wants, but I think Affleck wants to be a part of Batman films.

It was after that though that he was talking about a “graceful and cool way to segue out”

He just needs to go

Oh will you stop already

If Ben Affleck is out, it’s because he chose to leave. How many times must that point be driven home?

Uh... No? I think I'll continue to express my own opinion. How's that? Does that work out for you, bucko? :o

And this is clearly formatted as a harmless, quirky little meme. I found it on twitter. I don't see why you're treating it as if it was some earnest, weighty statement or why you're so compelled to call me out on it.

Bucko?

Well now you’ve just simply crossed the line. We must battle now.

Yes, with this being the Ben Affleck is Batman thread, we will not be honoring the ‘no kill’ rule

Sorry nerds!

Where were you when Keaton Batman stuffed dynamite down a guy's pants and blew him up? Did you take a bathroom break and forget to pause the VHS tape every time? Or when he set that henchman on fire with the Batmobile's flamethrower? Did you always happen to be getting more nachos, right around when the scene played? ;)

That post actually reminds me of an old family memory

My family VCR machine broke because a copy of Reindeer Games got stuck inside of it. Ben Affleck broke my VCR! Thanks a lot, Ben!

Well, I'm sure this back-and-forth ********** will end well for both parties. :o

Just a hunch based on the recent rumors and developments. :yay: They're moving forward with the Phoenix Joker movie, there's the rumor that Reeves' Batman isn't part of the DCEU, the Mark Hughes rumor of The Batman being in the same universe as the Phoenix film, the DCEU Letoker film being actively developed along with SS2 and BOP, the rumors of Hamada wanting Affleck to stay, the rumors of Affleck wanting to stay....

My take is this: Marvel showed Thanos very early on in a cameo. They had a big plan leading to the big comic event which is the Infinity War thing. So considering one of those big events in DC lore are the Crisis series with the multiverses, and considering they're splitting DCEU and DC Dark, they could be setting up such an event film 10 years down the line by actually splitting the universes and giving us 2-3 different takes on the same characters like it seems we're getting and making them clash on screen in an eventual Crisis event on film. Speculation on my part, of course, but their latest decisions actually point in that direction.

Okay, cool :yay: Thanks!

I think its easier to blame it on the guy going out...but why arent we considering the possibility that its Reeves that wants him out? Nearly everyone is like "if ben wants to leave..." but we dont know that at all. Maybe Reeves wants him out because he needs someone younger.

All i'm saying lets not jump to conclusion right away!

I'll say this, IF Ben wants to leave, I'll gladly accept that, and welcome the new guy. But that's a big IF for me.

For me Ben Affleck is a better storyteller than Reeves, and I find his directing more sophisticated. But he's not the director. Reeves is. So we dont have to choose between them. He's the actor. They should be a great combo and actually work together to create a ICONIC Batman movie.

Actually according to Jett (I know)

It's not up to Ben

and according to Daniel R - Hamada wants Ben, Reeves - not sure.

So if Ben does leave, it's

1) he wants to leave
2) Reeves showed him the door
3) mutual agreement

and my theory is Reeves doesn't have any incentive to keep Ben, so Ben's decision doesn't really matter at the end.

Still bombed about Jake though :csad:

Even if Matt Reeves wants him to leave, I'll trust him more than I trust Ben. I love all of his movies.

But just curious, which movie makes you think that Ben is a better director? I've watched some of his movies when trying to get a feel for his directing, but none of them seemed to click. I mean, on a technical aspect maybe he's better (he's got an Oscar for that for god's sake). But Reeves seems to be more capable of delivering a blockbuster that can get you emotionally attached to the characters, while also isn't lacking in depth and messages. Affleck's movies on the other hand seem a bit "dry" to me.

My favourite Ben Affleck movie has to be The Town. I think Affleck does suspense and drama so ****ing well, its unreal to me. During some of the scenes, I was literally on the edge of my seat, and he made me care about characters I'd never care about. In Gone Baby Gone, not only were all the performances stellar, the moral ambiguity that was explored with such a difficult topic, was just masterful. I cant remember when a movie had left me so conflicted and with so much to unpack when it ended. And that had so many twists and turns, and it was done so well. Live By Night, at a technical level was exquisitely well made. From the production design to the cinematography to the acting and direction. It was all extremely well done. And finally Argo, which had one of the most tense scenes I've ever seen, and although at the back of your head you know the outcome, you're still sweating. And he balances all this elements of drama, suspense, humor, emotion and character moments so well, that at all times you are engrossed in the movie.

He to me is one of the best directors working today, and I certainly want to see more of his movies. I think crime thrillers are his specialty, and he would have made an amazing Batman movie. But I also trust Matt Reeves. He has shown that he can handle big budget blockbuster filmmaking(which Affleck hasnt) and still manage to make it a sophisticated adult story grounded in character and emotion, and tackle heavy themes. Add that to the fact he wants to make a neo-noir Batman movie that examines his psyche? Can it get more perfect? I DONT THINK SO :woot:

When I said I think Ben Affleck is a better filmmaker, it wasnt meant as a slight in any way. What I meant is we shouldnt have to choose between them as they dont have the same roles. We should be excited to have these two talented men working together on Batman. Make it happen WB!

I enjoyed Gone baby gone and I laughed when Jeremy Renner sip his drink during the final confrontation in The Town.
