Best movie twist ending ever?

It always frustrates me when you post and Lois Lane is looking up, undaunted, into falling glass. It really gets me everytime.

Fight Club does it for me, mostly because it makes a repeat viewing of the movie so, so awesome. It was so well led up to, man...

Most have been named yet, I think. The Machinist has a good ending IMHO, not REALLY a twist, but unexpected nonetheless. To me at least.

The Village. I laughed so hard at the "What the F...." look of peoples faces.

Soylent Green. Soylent Green is people :wow:

Empire Strikes Back.
The Departed.
Fight Club.
Seven.
The Prestige.
Memento.
The Game.
The Sixth Sense.
Unbreakable.
Planet of the Apes.
Minority Report.
Vanilla Sky
Arlington Road.
Saw.
Old Boy.
The Ring.
and the Matrix even though the twist is at the beginning.
I also thought Apocalypto had somewhat a twist at the end.

I dont think that any of the scream movies had a twist, except possibly the third one, where the killer is Sydneys brother that no-one knew about.

Atonement had a little unexpected twist that I liked.

How did I forget to place Oldboy in here?

One of the craziest, sickest twists ever

The best twist ever is not really a movie, but an episode from The Twilight Zone : To Serve Man.

IT´S A COOKBOOK!

A lot of people say the Prestige, but... well, am I the only one who saw that coming? In fact, my friend was pretty pissed when I said
"Let me guess, twin brother.
when he showed it to me. Loved the movie though.

I look at The Prestige as a magic trick. If you heed the advice right from the start, the first line of the movie, then you can probably figure it out before the end. Others won't be looking in the right place, won't be looking for the obvious, they will be looking for more than they should be. And like all magic tricks, the secret is usually disappointing. That's exactly how the movie works.

Was i the only one who guessed right off the bat that the killer was in the room in scream?

I think you mean Saw. Like you, a couple of my friends guessed Jigsaw was in the room the entire time.

Thank you for clearing that up. I had no idea what she was talking about and thought it was best to just ignore her.

Sixth Sense
Saw
The Departed

The movie "Signs" was easy to figure out.

Every M Night Shyamalan movie ever! JK.......
Seriously though, how bad was Lady in the Water?

Everyone has already listed mine.

Yeah, it's just like the illusionist. If you keep in mind that magic isn't real, then the answer becomes obvious. Though I find it funny that I saw the ending to both of those coming, even though my friends didn't, yet didn't see the twist at the end of Sweeney Todd coming, even though almost everyone did. Weird, ain't it?

Identity had a unique one.
And the Skeleton Key wasn't that good but it had an interesting twist.

Assuming you mean Saw and not Scream, yes you were the only one. No one guessed that since that isn't really even the twist. It was just a surprise. I doubt anyone on earth had the foresight to think a bloody corpse was the mastermind.

I only saw it once and liked it, but I'm not super familiar with the details. A twist has clues to figure it out. What were the clues given to us that pointed to a corpse being the baddie?

I agree with that to a degree. In The Prestige, you had the machine that kinda threw you off as to what was really going on. I've been to a few message boards on the movie, imdb, RT, and there are still debates as to whether the machine really worked or didn't. I can understand some of that, but in the end you have to rely on evidence that is never shown on screen and have to assume happens.

The Illusionist was basically Romeo and Juliet with magic and a happy ending. I like Edward Norton and all, but overall the movie got boring.

Re: 'The Prestige' and the machine:

How can anyone think the machine didn't work?

Apart from seeing it work in Tessla's lab (re-creating all those hats and the cat) we saw it 'clone' Jackman on the spot (he shot that copy) and they also showed all the 'cloned' corpses of him in the water tanks right at the end.
Seriously, with Caine's also berating Jackman about his "achievement", telling him that in truth drowning was in fact agony (and commenting on the machine as being the work of a "real wizard"), there's nothing in the film I can think of to suggest it didn't work at all.

Oh I agree, it's just that there is still a debate on that. People have said that the machine working doesn't fit the realistic environment or tone of the movie. However they don't realize that they are falling into the same sort of trap Jackman's character did, the refusal to believe in a simple explanation.

Agree with so many of the ones already mentioned.

Here's a few older ones too I don't think have a mention yet:

Dont Look Now
Angel Heart
No Way Out
The Shawshank Redemption (a nice twist for once!!)

Well, that was what made it a great twist for me and I can honestly say I didn't see it coming:
the realistic tone is what made the machine actually working a real WTF? moment (I did guess Fallon was Borden's twin brother in disguise though) Also, on a little research to remember the bothers fake name, I found out the film was based on a book where the machine again does work, though with a slightly different result
