The Dark Knight Beyond The Picture: Analyzing IBIHDToo.com

FOR THE SECOND TIME, IN THE KILLING JOKE THEY DO REFFER TO HER BY NAME, IT IS JEANNIE.

Seriously people, read...

I said I didn't believe they did. Not that the factually did not. Also, I was typing this prior to seeing your post.

Thanks for clearing it up though.

Well that's debatable but doing so wont change my opinion so Ill leave it at that.
well let's see... for starters:

1. Lex Luthor's "hack" was on an existing official website. The Joker's wasn't.

2. pics of Lex Luthor had already been revealed by the studio. The Joker's had not.

3. the Superman site was not fan interactive - the fans weren't relied upon to actively participate in a reveal. The Joker's is and the fans were an integral part in the studio's reveal.

4. there was no supplemental or complementary marketing technique to direct traffic to a website like there was with the joker playing cards (even if ".com" was omitted).

i really don't see how the two are remotely comparable.

How about the most obvious and blatent facts about them?

They were both sites with the villan defacing a "hero".

why be such an ass about it and be so contrived trying to say since they aren't identical they are NOTHING alike. WTF??

the discussion was about the marketing campaign.

"the whole website thing was one of the most original marketing stunts for a movie I ever seen." - ultimatefan

crossing through Superman's name and writing Lex Luthor over it on THE official site doesn't really compare to what's going on here. if all that had been done was a superficial defacing of the actual Dent site, then i might agree. however, the most obvious and blatant fact about it is that an entirely new website was created that depended on fan interaction, and it's existence and purpose was spread through word of mouth, not by randomly visiting the movie's official website to see a change made by the studio.

Oh my god you have to be kidding me.

I am speaking of the blatent superficial similarities.

Again, things do NOT have to be identical in every facet to be compared. Comparison is focusing on similarities, even if just a few. Someone just said that the IMAGE of the IBIHDtoo site reminded him of the IMAGE of the LEX Returns site.

i am not kidding you at all. ultimatefan said, "the whole website thing was one of the most original marketing stunts for a movie I ever seen."

apparently, green - and you - misunderstood. green didn't simply say that the image reminded him of another image; green responded with "Really? This reminds me a lot of this" trying to contradict that the Joker site is original when, in fact, the Superman site wasn't anything like what the Joker site was. i've listed some reasons why it isn't. i agree with ultimatefan.

"Again, things do NOT have to be identical in every facet to be compared."

of course they don't. you'll note that i've previously compared the two to show that they are not similar (otherwise, we wouldn't be having this conversation). i think it's obvious that the two campaigns and implementations are not similar at all.

with the whole "See you in december" and 42 Entertainment beign conected thing, it looks like this is going to go way above and beyond the luthor thing

Really?
This...
dent.jpg

reminds me alot of this...
luthor.jpg
woow. i forgot about that. now i remember how this site was made for fans to look for clues :o

come on dude. it was just like lex made photoshop pics with hes face.

thsi is different. this was made for fans to look for clues. to look for info and pics. its better.

Did anyone see the site again? Its blank but when you click and drag all you see is a series of HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA.

Im scared...

except for "see you in december" hidden within the hahahahahahas

it also says "see YOu In DECeMbER" in hidden letters in it...and seeyoindecember.com is registered to the same firm who did the viral campaigns for halo 2 and the newest nine inch nails album

I thought that Jessica might be the wife featured in the Killing Joke. They met in high school; she was taken by his smile foreshadowing his eventual appearance. Somehow he loses her, giving him another reason for the SN tragicpast, ect ect.

Was the Joker's wife in THE KILLING JOKE ever referred to by name?

if you send an email to [email protected] as stated earlier, you get this response back:

"People always ask me about my charming boyish smile. Jessica used to love it. She was the loneliest girl in high school, and my first big kiss..."

Perhaps Jessica is the Joker's wife and/or love interest in The Dark Knight???

For anyone who doesnt remember, Nolan did state The Killing Joke as one of his influences for The Joker in TDK. It makes perfect sense for there to be references such from The Killing Joke in this TDK marketing campaign. It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the new few weeks, even months, as far as advertising and marketing for TDK goes. Im sure the "see you in december" statement is a hint at the first full theatrical trailer coming out in December. As far as the teaser goes, I think its safe to say we can expect it in the next month or so with Ocean's 13 and/or Harry Potter.

**** you Hype, and your ****ty quick posts. "Quick" my ass, took about 15 minutes to post 5 ****ing words :csad:

To whoever pointed out the panda-y-ness precedents, I guess you've got a point. Although I've always seen those artistic devices as representative of sunken, tired eyes, not as black makeup.

Well, I'm pretty sure the makeup on Ledger is not meant to be black makeup, either - but rather the same sunken, tired eyes.

Dont forget that the lighting on that picture no doubt darkens the area around his eyes. We haven't seen it in the context of the movie yet.

I missed out on this - could someone describe what went on in the SR page?

Judging from the screenshots though, the SR one looked like an amateur hack and Photoshop job, and the TDK page looks genuinely creepy.

Its not that I dont like the ad campaign, it just seems WB are repeating themselves to me a bit. It's not really very original. I disliked most of the ad campaign for Begins too but loved the movie so it's really not too big a deal to me, I just found it sort of funny.

Well, to me it kicked major ass, not only it was different and interactive - which the Luthor thing wasn´t so much - but it was totally "Jokerish".

I do believe that this is the most brilliant and original marketing scheme since MLM.
