Audience preference is changing. Thank goodness. So the three biggest hits of the summer are Barbie, Oppenheimer and… Sound of Freedom. Now that’s a triple feature. Nobody predicted this at the start of the year lol.
Good that studios are beginning to cater to them too.Audience preference is changing. Thank goodness.
I'm impressed by how well it's doing. I never expected it to bomb but I don't think anyone knew that it would be a billion dollar contender.Just want to point out that I think it’s very funny that Barbie wasn’t even an option on here.
Neither was Oppenheimer and it has a big chance of being in the top 3 films this year. It's been a very unpredictable year for box office.Just want to point out that I think it’s very funny that Barbie wasn’t even an option on here.
I thought it'd have performed better as well. Its run isn't close to over yet but I've said it in other threads, I think that having the "Part 1" in the title didn't do it many favors because I think a lot of average moviegoers are put off by that. The average audience member might say, "Going to the movies is expensive these days. I like the Mission: Impossible movies but if this is a Part 1 I can wait until Part 2 comes out, see that one in theaters and rent/watch this one on streaming before I see that and go see Barbie or Oppenheimer this month instead since that's what everyone's talking about."I admit to being a bit surprised by Mission Impossible. I honestly thought the goodwill from Maverick would propel MI into the $800 million plus club.
If anyone had told me a year ago that Mario Bros and Barbie would be billion dollar movies, I would have laughed in their face. Well not literally, I'm not that rude
I love how wildly unpredictable the box office is becoming. It's a positive sign that we're gonna get more fresh, interesting ideas in the years to come.
Barbie will be up to no.2 very soon. Will be interesting to see how its later holds are and how much it can close the gap on Mario.Highest grossing movies of the year:

I’m super-stoked for Barbie and Oppenheimer, but it is disappointing to see the MI people not get rewarded for putting out such a great film.I admit to being a bit surprised by Mission Impossible. I honestly thought the goodwill from Maverick would propel MI into the $800 million plus club.

It really ended up benefitting from sticking it out and being the only movie out there right now that's totally fine for little kids. You've got The Little Mermaid and Across the Spider-Verse too but they both have some stuff that may be a little intense for the under 5 crowd.I'm heartened by the fact that Elemental managed to overcome a terrible ad campaign by Disney, some bad faith reviews, and the constant attacks by the anti-woke crowd, and has become a modest hit. It's a marvelous film that totally deserves it.
