i hope so. i do think overall hype for daredevil was bigger so i do not think ghost rider wil top daredevils opening .daredevil opened at the peak of beniffer right before it wont down hill. that added a lot to the hype machine same way it did fo rmr. and mrs.smith in 2005.

lets see, daredevil did 45 million over the 4 day weekend, but than tumbled an enormous 55% in its second weekend ude ot bad word of mouth, and it kept falling.

so even though i dont think ghost rider has a chance to top daredevils 4 day; it had a great chance to beat its total IF its good.

Why wouldn't GR have a chance to top Daredevil with higher ticket prices, and a bigger production, and a much bigger ad campaign??? Hmmmm?

The problem is that its between Super Bowl AND the Academy Awards. February is the dead season and only cheap horro movies or comedy romantics or God destroy them "Tyler Perry" movies are released. GR should have had a july or may release.

I really hope the bad weather clears up by the time the film is supposed to come out. All the arctic cold will definitely make most people stay home. Did the film have an official premiere anywhere yet?

and please, no blizzards!

I think DD will end up having the bigger opening of GR and DD, but GR will end up with a similar gross. I stand by my previous 35 mil opening, 105 mil domestic prediction.

Yeah like Passion of the Christ, Hannibal Rising, 23, and Daredevil? Those kind of horror romantic comedies w/Tyler Perry? LOL

i think GR will suprise alot of people. I mean SHH! already put it in the same league as Spider-Man, Batman, and X-Men, in terms of good super hero movies.

I'm gonna say at least $35M for 3 day opening, and ending up with around $130M.

cause ghost riders hype is half as big :)

^ Maybe to you but not to the rest of the World. Ghost Rider's hype and ad campaign is much larger than Daredevil. I don't remember seeing any house size banners across the nation saying Daredevil was here. LOL The gR trailers are far more impressive than the daredevil ones of Ben Affleck wearing red leather. (PUKE)

Ghost rider seems pretty cool, but what the hell is on nicolas's head, aside from that I would watch it, but it is a pretty good hair peice.

W/E ADAVCNED MARK my words ill be reminding you next weekend-its opening will not top daredevils, even if i want it to.

Words marked. It will easily surpass Daredevil. Easily.

I hope you're right. My only concern is that DD didn't have this much competition for box office dollars. Baby Hannibal and even (gulp) Norbit are getting good reviews. (After seeing that Norbit trailer I can't imagine anyone in their right mind paying to see it but Big Momma's House 2 opened at #1 so who knows?) Some kid's money will go to Bridge and Breach looks like a quality adult thriller. This is one crowded February for a change.

i cant say how big the ghost rider ad campaign is, but it's hype? i have not heard one person in "real life" even mention the movie in the last months, let alone give their opinion on it. i think just based on higher ticket sales, it might match daredevil's 3-day opening during the 4 days, but i think even that is a longshot.

i'm a comic book geek, but i only see the comic book movies that look good. when nicholas cage says "i'm ghost rider"... i cant help but laugh. it just doesnt look like a marketable movie.

you keep saying that it looks like it's going to be so much bigger than daredevil, but i havent heard anything convincing. yes, daredevil had ben affleck in it, but it was before he became uber-ass-annoying. and it had jennifer garner at the top of her game. colin farrell too. it had the right people to get hollywood and entertainment media noticing. ghost rider does not have that factor in it's favor.

as good (or bad) as the movie may turn out to be, i think it's stuck in that "B-movie wanting to be and A-movie" place.

here's are some predictions from the folks at boxofficeprophets. they can be pretty funny and they speak for a pretty fair demographic (not just a core reader base). they do their research and dont just write blindly, and sometimes they can be very insightful. so, here are three opinions from outside the comic book world on where GR's box office will place for the month of Feb' 07. be sure to click on the links and get the full scope of their february forcasts. keep in mind that February is a SLOW month, so their picks for top spots may seem surprising.

2) Ghost Rider

The next offering from Marvel in its quest to turn every last one of its comic books into a feature film is Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage as the title character. The project had actually been trying to get off the ground for quite some time until Daredevil writer and director Mark Steven Johnson took the reigns. In the story, stunt driver Johnny Blaze becomes Ghost Rider after giving up his soul. He wants to save the life of his love (Eva Mendes) but must agree to become a vigilante - and gets a flaming skull and a fiery motorcycle - and fight an evil demon named Blackheart, the son of the devil. By no means is Ghost Rider a comic story known to all demographics like Spider-Man or Superman. He is a lower level, albeit warmly regarded by his fans, "antihero" with a much smaller fanbase. There is no doubt that Marvel hopes to replicate the success of Daredevil, which also opened in February, from four years ago with its $45 million opening weekend. But it will most likely end up somewhere in the respectable range of Blade ($17 million in 1998) or Hellboy ($23 million in 2004). Expect a quick drop after that, followed by a hit run on the video charts a few months later.

Stay tuned next year for film versions of Marvel comic books Sleepwalker and Moon Knight.

Opening weekend: $25 million.

3. Ghost Rider

This is the latest "comic book character come to life" film. Ghost Rider may not be one of the big names in the comic book biz, but the actor playing him definitely is – Nicolas Cage. I think that these two factors offsetting each other will make this film a decent success, but not really a smash hit. Cage is definitely a big draw whenever he appears on the big screen. His films are almost sure to be a success. However, since the general public may not have heard of the Ghost Rider character, there won't be as much interest as with one of the more familiar characters.

1) Ghost Rider

The biggest compliment I may give Ghost Rider is that the commercial where he (it?) files his tax return amuses me. Otherwise, this is a disaster in the making and the only people likely to disagree on the point are the same stalwart comic fan obsessives who refused to be honest with themselves about Superman Returns. And we all know how that turned out. I once attended a 14 inning baseball game with two rain delays that was less dull than the Singer Mistake. Ghost Rider makes Superman Returns look like Spider-Man 2. Despite this, there will be interest in seeing a flaming biker somewhere other than a gay bar for a change. I somewhat bitterly cede it to be the biggest opener of February.

YOU GUYS ARE FORGETTING ONE VERY IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF THIS FILM, MOTORCYCLES, EVERY BIKER IN AMERICA IS GONNA GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!:o:D I VOTED BETWEEN 30-40 DOMESTIC AND 120+ WORLDWIDE, BUT I WOULDN'T BE THE LEAST BIT SURPRISED IF GR MADE MORE!!!:D  :ghost:

This is a 4 day opening. Even w/Tarabithia 30 million would be below my expectations for Ghost Rider over 4 days even in February.

boxofficeprophets is a joke.

terbethias gonna dissappoint. maybe 20 million 4 day, tops.

ghost rider will do 38-42 for the 4 day and 32-35 for the 3 day.

My only concern is that DD didn't have this much competition for box office dollars.

I feel better today after sizing up the early competition.

I can count the number of critics that I trust on one hand and Tom Long of the Detroit News is one of them. He just bashes both Baby Hannibal and Norbit...

Murphy's flaw (Grade: F)

Eddie Murphy's 'Norbit' is weighed down by racial stereotypes

"Norbit" may be the most disturbing, morally repugnant, nightmare-inducing film of the century so far.

Unfortunately, it's a comedy, so that probably isn't its intention.

But if ever a film played down to its audience, if ever a movie went out of its way to reinforce negative stereotypes, if ever a few basic jokes have been hammered and hammered and then hammered again until any sense of fun is long gone, then it's in "Norbit.

"Norbit" is a crappy movie by any terms. There's a wisp of a plot about Norbit reuniting with the young love of his life, but that's about it. Otherwise, it's fat jokes peppered with racial jokes, poop jokes and fall-down jokes: Pure third-grade material.

If the film had been about a fat white woman, or man, it still would have been bad bordering on outright offensive. Add the racial components and stereotypes, though, and you have a film that's absolutely despicable.

People shouldn't be laughing at this film; they should be crying.

New 'Hannibal' doesn't rise high enough (Grade: D)

Prequel can't even come close to the execution and intensity of 'Silence of the Lambs.'

It's tempting to say this film might be better titled "Hannibal Falling," but Hannibal has been falling since star Anthony Hopkins reprised the character in both "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon." While neither of those films was a complete embarrassment, neither came near the heights of "Silence," nor the dull lows of "Rising."

Simply put, Hannibal has lost his bite this time around. Gone is the wit, the playfulness, even the masterful, innovative sense of execution. Instead "Hannibal Rising" tracks a somewhat garden variety demented killer driven by revenge and not even terribly good at what he does. Suddenly Hannibal's greatest crime isn't murder, it's being boring...

Director Peter Webber delivers all this with a painfully straight face, and the result is actually less interesting than your average horror movie of the week.

What Webber and writer Harris seem to have forgotten is the sense of character that made the character of Hannibal such a gas. The few witticisms that surface are no better than standard "Nightmare on Elm Street" fare, and Hannibal is such a clumsy killer that he relies on circumstance for salvation time and again.

Where is the lighthearted mad genius who made human consumption seem such a gleeful lifestyle choice?

Gone, hopefully, for good. Yes, it is perhaps deliciously fitting that Hannibal ended up picked apart by Hollywood vultures.

Norbit seems like it's going to be hilarious it really does IMO. The trailer had me sold and so did other people i showed it too. Critics rarely give glowing reviews to movies like this so that review doesn't surprise me.

The young Hannibal flick looks creepy and that franchise is a popular but are audiences really waiting to see his back story? One with no Hopkins at all? And whats the need of a prequel? After 3 movies it's pretty clear that he's a twisted son of a gun.

I think Number 23 (Jim Carrey), Reno 911! and Nortbit could hurt GR's box office.

I'll bet 23 is in and out of theatres in record time, Reno looks funny but honestly has a very limited audience, and Norbit does look kind of funny but man is it getting shredded by critics and probably won't do any better than his last Klumps film. Hannbial should have a solid opening weekend but that's an R rated flick. There's always going to be competition and there's really nothing that can be done about it.

BTW I say Ghost Rider opens up to a 20 million first day or damn close to it.

BTW:

Norbit is 10% at Rottentomatoes
Hannibal is what I think 16%
23 has two highly negative reviews now abusing Jim Carey and the film...

In other words it's not like there's some other mainstream action flick coming out that can compete on the same level. From a critical standpoint probably the Astronaut Farmer will have better reviews but that doesn't translate to box office fortunes either.

GR isn't nearly as known as the FF.

And Blade was even less well known than Ghost Rider, yet Blade became a very successful franchise.

Notoriety isnt always a nescessary factor. Remember; once upon a time no one had ever heard of Star Wars either.
