"they might as well have had 300 Leonidas's fighting for Sparta and nobody would even notice."
-maybe thats cause the spartan soldiers basically had the same mentality as each other. they were trained to be nothing but a perfect soldier.
Spartans were trained to be potters, politicians, leaders, and 'breeders' too. It wasnt uncommon for a Spartan man to have sex with a women (that wasnt his wife) that had a high probability of having sons. And each Spartan warrior decorated his shield with something unique. Spartans were not machines.
inear? well it rele only does have one story to tell
And it didnt tell it. I didnt see 300 spartans , I dont think I even saw half that number fight.
campy? sure it had campy moments, but the movie wasnt OVERLY filled with it like GR was.
"Hoo ha!" I think this movie takes the cake in cheesiness. The difference beween GR and this film was that 300 was taking itself very seriously.
ultra-stylized gore-gy? i dont know what "gore-gy" is, less you mean gorey.
No I mean Gore-gy, thats what you get when you mix Gore and Orgy. Which was the basic story of this movie - Stylized violence and sex. No real epic story.
the story is "flawed" b/c its based on a Comic, which is based on a movie made in the 60s that frank miller saw as a kid, that is based on the actual event. frank miller liked the story so he made it into a comic, i dont think he wanted it to be exactly historically accurate. if he did im sure he would have done so. theres also the possibility that the way the movie was is because it was narrated by A Spartan to Other spartans. back then and even now, when someone tells a story they tend to exaggerate or remember it differently. so maybe the reason why everything was the way it was is because its how the narrator remembered it.
Well the comic had characters in it that looked more like Greeks, not like Scottish extras from Braveheart. I did flip through the book a couple times since it was at my local comic store back in the late 90s and I dont remember Rhinos in it, but I could be wrong.
Speaking of the narrator, wasnt he Boromir's brother in LOTR and Van Helsings side kick? Damn he has worked his puny self out.
