Box Office Predictions: Star Trek XI

SBD has Star Trek at $5.7 million for Wed.

That puts it at $99 million.

It all depends on how large (or small) Star Trek drops and how big Angels & Demons opens. Personally, I think Star Trek might make around 50 M its second weekend which is how much I think Angels & Demons will open to. So it might be a close fight for #1 between the two.

FYI everyone. I think you guys should know that Star Trek will break $100 million faster than Wolverine.

I think Star Trek destroys Angels and Crud this weekend.

Is it just me...or does Angels & Demon just not have any support behind it? It seems like one of those movies no one talks about and lasts maybe a week in theater before it gets rushed out to dvd.

Its weird because know right now it doesn't have much support. Its weird because the last movie made $750 million. It almost feels like Sony has low expectations and is dumping it.

I mean the fact is, people who left Da Vinci Code generally thought it was crap. Critics hated it.

I haven't seen DaVinci code yet...in no hurry to see Demons....I do plan on going back to see Trek again.

so...basically Sony has no faith in it and is just shoveling it out there.

Star Trek's weekday numbers are comparible to Iron Man's. If that Showbiz data number is correct and it makes 5.3mil today, it could be headed for a 50mil second weekend like Iron Man had last year.

Star Trek's weekday numbers: mon 7.5mil tues 6.5mil wed 5.78mil (I'm waiting for mojo's final number)

Iron Man's weekday numbers: mon 6.9mil tues 6.5mil wed 5.74mil. thrus 5.3mil. It went up 179% on friday and hit 14.9mil and then made 51.2mil over the entire weekend.

Star Trek could hit 50 mil and beat Demons...but I'm going to be less bold, untill I get the todays numbers tomorrow.

Are....you..going to stop that anytime soon?....no?....oh, okay...I was just wondering.

Imax or regular? :)

I would love to see it in IMAX, but the nearest IMAX is a couple of hours away...gas prices made a big rise here the last few days....so most likely it'll be at a regular theater.

I might stop it after the weekend BO results come in.

I've had it with Opie.

I thought you were referring to Brian Singer and I thought WTF? :funny:

And yay for ST having great legs! This film earned it! :applaud
ha...Im pretty sure Brian Singer is gay. So that would never happen.

Its still going to do decent at opening weekend. The DVC sucked but a lot of people watch it...however its going to do less than DVC because the 1st one was a let down and the controversy has died down since then.

Btw, what is opie?

By all rights, Sony should have released it around the Fall. It's gonna get slaughtered, Sci-Fi style, between Star Trek and T:S.

Opie = Ron Howard.

The Squirrel,

Wed. estimates put Star Trek at about $99 million US. It will cross $100 million tomorrow and it will do so in a faster period of time than Wolverine.

Due to the strong word of mouth and positive buzz, it could be a VERY close race between Angels and Crud by Opie and Star Trek this weekend.

as dumb as these movies are, I think angels and demons will still make a fair amount of money. Some people eat that crap right up ya know? But Star Trek will definitely stay strong I think if not win the weekend outright which would be pretty fantastic.

Although Tom Hanks is a reported Star Trek fanatic so maybe that will take the sting out of it a bit if his film only comes in second.

Yeah, I know. When I saw ISS's post my first thought was: Brian Singer beat up his girlfriend?

My second thought was: Brian Singer has a girlfriend?:huh:

:woot:

I really hope ST stays #1 over A&D but I'm not really expecting it. I know there hasn't been much hype for the movie but I'm sure the GA knows it's coming out and the series surely has enough fans to put it over the top even if TDVC was a disappointment.

Its Hanks' own fault for involving himself with the wrong franchise.

$50 million for Trek this weekend? I'd say $40 million is more realistic, and I'll go ahead and (incorrectly) predict it beats Angels & Demons this weekend.

Angels & Demons aside, if Hanks is a Trek fan, it might be cool to see him play an Admiral or something in a future movie.

It might not be so incorrect FNJ. DHD is reporting analysts are saying that of online tickets being sold right now 33% account for the Opie show. 49% accounts for Star Trek.

The weekday numbers right now are very similar to Iron Man's first weekday numbers. Look what Iron Man did against Speed Racer trash and then Prince Caspian which beforehand people expected to CRUSH Iron Man.

Anyone read Masswyrm's review of A&D on AICN? It's pretty funny. He likens the whole thing to a lame Batman Vs. The Riddler story.
